85 Squadron as it was ca. August 1940. Indispensable for information on wear and weathering.

Amazing images and thanks for posting.

Their clarity is superb and never before seen by me.

The metal plate between the exhaust and the cockpit. I always assumed that it was fitted to prevent glare when flying at night/night fighting?

Best Regards,

That it was.

These Hurricanes are survivors of 85's involvement in the French campaign. Their white/black bellies have been repainted with Sky or a mixed Sky and they are really shopworn.

Here's another pic from 85 Squadron probably taken at Castle Camps in July 1940. Only one pilot in the picture survived WW2. Three were killed during the BoB.

Will Aircrew clothing be modelled correctly?

The RAF was informal as to flight clothing but basic kit was the same.

The LW were similar and allowed 'Private Purchase' leather jackets for fighter pilots.

A large topic if you search.

Just a thought.

This Spit is not bad either:

Those Lewis photos have popped in a few books over the years but rarely give much information other naming him and mentioning his DFC.

Its interesting that they are regarded as a "find" these days as the shots (clearly official publicity shots) were common in BoB coffee table books of the 60's and 70's.

Ironically I have found often a second hand "coffee table" book from the 60's is likely to have more technical detail and interesting photos of the aircraft and pilots than most modern literature which seems to rehash the same few shots over and over :)
