Gidday,

Hope some bright spark here can help, I've recently done a system upgrade and part of it is going from a 8800GT to a 9800GX2...

Now, I've downloaded the latest drivers from Nvidia and the latest graphics .dll's for Il2 (March 08), and even used the Nvidia control software to tone it down to one GPU but still I cannot get Il2 to run properly...

At the moment I've had to revert back to DirectX, which doesn't really satisfy my need for Eye candy... The game runs all jerky like, and for the life of me I just cannot get it to work correctly...

I've tried the stock Drivers that came with the card = stutters
I've tried the latest from Nvidia = also stutters.
I've tried the latest from Asus's driver support site = still stutters.
I've tried all the .dll's that I have in the '5' pack, all to no avail, including the march releases which were the best for the 8800GT... I don't want to send the card back for the GTX260 or GTX280 - this runs fine for everything else, just not Il2. Even when I have it set to run on only one GPU - it still stutters, the reflections on water flash, effects are square etc etc... But when I drop it down to DirectX it works fine. Now, as this is under XP - I cannot install DX10. Is it perhaps recommended with these uber cards to have Vista and DX10? It just seems the card cannot handel the OpenGL archatechture too well...

I've got all the power supply slots connected correctly, triple checked everything, all good... Everything else is fine and sweet, just not Il2

System specs, if it helps;

AMD 5200 Dual Core, Water Cooled,
Asus EN9800GX2, Standard Cooler config,
3GB Ram
1264GB HDD Space
Gigabyte MA55ASLI-4 Mobo,
850 Watt Silverstone Modular PSU...

Any idea guys?

Hate to break it to you but with IL2, it's a common problem with cards that have two GPU's, it occurs on my 4870x2. It's not the OS either as I'm on VISTA 64. Technically it's not the card, or the sim thats the problem as they both run fine on their "intended" platforms, its just the miss match of an aging graphics engine and modern card aka old running on new. I don't have any issues on other more modern games.

There's a thread in the "community help" section over at UBI titled "Nvidia frustrations" that should have some possible solutions to get you to a point where you can get some terrific performance from your GPU. I had a 7950GX2 for awhile (right after they came out) and had very similar issues. Page 20-22 IIRC, of that thread discusses most of the things I did to get mine setup properly and was the result of a post by a member named Daimonsyrius.

In a nutshell, there are settings in the NV control panel as well as some line values in your IL2 conf.ini folder that should get you all set.

Sorry, I can't link that forum from work or I'd point you to the exact spot.

a couple things I know for sure:

1. Force SFR (split frame rendering) (NV control panel)
2. Set "videosetupID=x" to a value of 17.

I have a 7950 GX2.. and I have issues as well.. I have to launch the sim , get it stable, then go IP to IP in order to fly online. Otherwise it is a crap shoot as to whether or not it will lock up on me after it laods up and displays the main screen. Nothing I have figured out so far has fixed this. When I go to a single GPU it loads up.. but I loose @ 40 FPS.... I may get 65 with 2 GPUs and 25 with one... so I just suck it up and go IP to IP.. but it is a drag... and if I dont exit the mission as soon as the host ends it and shuts down.. it will lock up... None of this was happening when I had my X850.

maybe ??????

Make sure in your forgotten battles profile in the nvidia control panel you have extension limit set to off, this can prevent perfect for some reason. Also set multi-threaded optimization to off, setting to on or auto will cut frames real bad for some reason.

I have your answer! I had a heck of a time getting rid of this pulsing heartbeat studder for the longest time and I couldn't figure it out. It's not driver related its the SLI mode you're in.

I switched from the more modern Alternate Frame Rendering to the older Split Frame Rendering using nHancer and bingo it went away.

I'm using some slightly older beta drivers as well. 177.66 and I've only had a few hitches with the drivers in COD4 and sometimes playing windows media player but other than that I get the best performance in IL2 so far.
