Howdy All,

I've got a squad member having trouble on his new rig and re-install of IL2 1946 running 4.12.1 and no mods. He is running Win7 and the sim is properly installed in it's own folder.

He is running the sim in it's native resolution 1680x1050 and the monitor is an LCD, and is somwhere arround 20 inch, 16:10, LCD monitor. Graphics Card is an Nvidia 760.

The exact problem is his gun sight in WWV is not round and the aircraft look somewhat bloated, distorted.

I have looked everywhere for a "fix". I had this same problem years ago and I've forgotten what I did to solve it.

Any help much appreciated.

Here's his Conf file:

I had this problem for years and 4.12 fixed it for me.
Then 4.12.1 screwed it up again and I have no idea how to return it to be "real" widescreen.

Try pressing shift key + F1

I will pass that along. Thank You. If that's the cure? I'm:oops:

That just moves the view from center to gunsight view.

I do forget what does that but my config does not have a line for WideScreenFoV so perhaps set that to 0 and see what happens?

Thanx, will try that as well.

Look for this in your conf.ini

[window]
width=1920
height=1200
ColourBits=32
DepthBits=24
StencilBits=8
ChangeScreenRes=1
FullScreen=1
DrawIfNotFocused=0
EnableResize=0
EnableClose=1
SaveAspect=0
Use3Renders=0

Height and width should be set to your monitor's resolution.
Enable resize and save aspect should be set to zero.

This should work for you.
Good luck.

Thanks JG26_EZ, will give it a whirl and hope it works. When I find/am given the solution, I will post it here for all. Much Appreciate the help guys.

width=1680
height=1050

If the plane is looking stretched somehow, than I suppose, this is not the correct resolution. You said, its the monitors native one, but I tend to doubt that. Try other 16:10 resolutions like 1920:1200. Or better a 16:9 one (1920:1080).

Koljan

My conf.ini is correct.
Here it is:

[window]
width=1920
height=1080
ColourBits=32
DepthBits=24
StencilBits=8
ChangeScreenRes=1
FullScreen=1
DrawIfNotFocused=0
EnableResize=0
EnableClose=1
SaveAspect=0
Use3Renders=0
WideScreenFoV=1
UIColor=0
UIDetail=0
UIBackground=en

However, in game, and in menus, it seems things are "fat". planes seem shorter then they should be, gun sights are slightly elliptic.
There are no black bars.
Take a look at this image of an F6F. Do these proportions look kosher to you?

Honestly it does seem a little "F4F-ish"...meaning a dab fat.

I think y'all are on to something here...My squadmate is a "Serbian Student" and I have emailed him this link to your help. Have not heard from him in a couple of days, pretty sure I will this weekend. Will let y'all know what worked. We much appreciate your interest and time. :)

Yes they do -the roundel on the fuselage seems fairly round. But it is difficult to judge from that perspective. Look at it from directly above, and measure the spanwidth and lenght of the plane, divide, rotate 90degrees and measure again, divide -compare. If the image is skewed, both measures should be significantly different.

If your monitors resolution really is 16:10 then try setting it up as such, use height=1200 or a different combination of width/height that does come up to 16:10.

Koljan

My monitor is 16:9 and switching from 42" to 47" didn't help :(

JG26_EZ

A shot of the aimer in a 109 should show oval or circle.
Google your monitor (possibly add serial number)to see what the res is and adjust accordingly?

What happens when "SaveAspect=1"?

If 16:9 then 1920x1080 is the correct resolution.

What is your field of view setting for that image? Narrow? Wide? Normal? Looks wide...

What happens when "SaveAspect=1"?

IIRC SaveAspect only supports 4:3, widescreen resolutions require it to be off. Unless TD changed that.

Koljan

I have sorted out the problem on my PC.
After 4.12.1, it seems that my "use widescreen fov" switch got "reversed". When it was lit, it was actually off, and when it was off it was actually on.

Also, this option will only take affect after restarting the client, which i didn't know.
