Hi guys,

in the last two weeks I have to reinstall my OS and I've choosed Win 8. The problem is, that IL2 won't start since that moment.

I've bought IL2 (1946) via Steam which means I have NO cd and no so called "a.exe". However, here are my solutions which won't helped:

1. installing in a different folder instead of "program files"
--> Here I choosed my extern harddrive, but still, the game would not start

2. set compatibility mode to: win xp sp2
--> same result - nothing happened

3. also, run as administrator
--> makes no difference at all :(

4. I tried that with the version 4.12m and I thought it's because of the patch - thatswhy I've decided to delete my whole IL2 folder and install it "fresh" via steam again. I did and now I'm at 4.07m(? - don't know, because the game is still not running at all).

Do you have some ideas left? I browsed the web for some solutions and the last one I've found was to buy the game on gog.com (good old games), because some ppl wrote that these guys could fix that problem, but I do not even have the money atm and I don't want to buy the same game twice.

In other words: it would be soooo great if you guys could tell me solution I didn't try yet. Thanks.

best regards.

Any log files that give you more information? (Win8 & IL2 log)

Copy the whole installation folder to your C drive

C:\IL21946

Turn off UAC

Create new shortcut to desktop

Set IL2 resolution in conf.ini file to desktop resolution.

That's all I did to get it to work.

I did everything you said, but if I try to start the game, this error-message appears:

OK.

Get your steam installation back to normal and patched up via steam.
Then.......
Try installing these sound file dll's back up the originals and put these in place of them.

Soooo, I don't know how to "patch up via steam", I just download the ultrapatch and patch 1.12m. After that, I replaced the ddl-files you gave me, but still: the game is NOT starting at all - not if I choose IL2 through the steam game list or if I try to start it manually with the il2fb.exe. :(

Could there be another way to get this game working? Thx for all the help till now, guys.

Steam patches IL2 1946 up to v4.09 iirc

You need
v4.10
v4.11
v4.12
v4.12.1

Don't put any mod's patches in until you have a stable version running.

Looks like you messed up installing a mod patch .

But why does the game still not start after directly download it from steam without any patches? I mean it's still the same problem with or without patches.
