I have been flying IL2 for over a decade.. and I never noticed that you can scroll through the options in the QMB/loadout screen for online stuff.. where you click fuel and weps options.. without having to hit that drop drop down menu.

I never realized that all you have to do is mouse over it and scroll and it will cycle through the options. It is just amazing to me that after all this time I am still hagving fun with this sim and still finding out new stuff... For years now I have been hitting the drop down menu and then scrolling through.

The FMB object/plane/tank/ship/etc selector, have that ability too.

Just in case...

Found that out two months ago. ;-)

I only quite recently discovered the differential braking that I've been cursing 1C for leaving out for so many years, makes taxiing sooooo much easier :-)
I blame the poor documentation.

As far as I know differential braking wasn't built into the sim ad still isn't but there is a work around..

The article I read said the sim uses the British implementation for all aircraft, and it does take some getting used to.
The British design, instead of two seperate toe brakes, pressing the control-column brake lever applies both brakes equally, but then by using the rudder pedals, a pressure relay valve uses the rudder position to increase pneumatic pressure to the inside wheel brake and reduce brake pressure to the outside wheel.

Yes but there is a work around of sorts. See the 4.13 wish list thread.

Why do we need a "work around"?
It would be neat to have seperate toe brakes for those aircraft that don't use the British design, but as long as we're able to steer using the brakes I can't see a need for a work around.

I did look at it.
My question was not how to do this work around, I asked why we need it.

Because for the moment that is the only way to get both the left and the right pedals to actuate brakes.. As it is now only one or the other pedal will work the brakes.. Thuis is still not true differential braking because you have to use the rudder while you turn but it simulates it closely enough so that you can feel as though you are using differential braking.. L rudder .. L brake.. turn left.. R rudder R brake .. turn right.. as opposed to L rudder R brake .. turn left .. R rudder R brake turn right or vice versa.. but if this was coded into the sim we would not longer have to do this just as we no longer have to edit our config file to get widescreen support..

While I would like to see accurate braking modeled.. as in the planes that had separate toe brakes with separate toe brakes and the ones with a lever just one.. I have no idea how much work that would entail.. but with making the work around easier to do .. that seems as if it would be a very easy fix.. just a matter of adding a line of code to the hard coded text file..

Yes, but that is how the system works in the Spitfire (for example), to use both brakes you use neutral rudder while holding the brake lever on the control column, and both brakes will have equal air pressure.
So currently, using pedals to turn right requires you to push the right pedal, then press the brake key, as it would work in the British aircraft?
It is still "true differential braking", just a different implementation from most other aircraft.

For hydraulic differential braking aircraft like most (all?) US aircraft, it's not just wildly inaccurate, it's also woefully inadequate for carrier ops - which was a HUGE aspect of the war for the US, even though it's badly neglected in the game... :(
