View Full Version : Custom Sound Pack by Jiver For 4.12 >

Mods please sticky this.
Stock 4.12 game allows for custom sounds. That means you can load custom sounds for engines, guns, etc..into your game
Here is the link to Jiver's SoundPack: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/68344843/412_csounds.rar
Features:
* Realistic and authentic aircraft engine sounds (by Jafa)
* Enhanced mechanical sounds (landing gear, flaps, air brake, etc.)
* Realistic weapon sounds (Machine guns, cannons, rockets, bombs)
* New explosion sounds (bombs, torpedoes, rockets, bullet/shell hits)
* Enhanced ground unit sounds (tanks, trucks, cars, motorcycles)
* New environmental sound effects (rain, thunder, buffeting, wind)
All you need to do is download the file from the link above. Then unzip. Drag the contents of "my_presets" to the "my_presets" folder in your main il2 game folder. After that drag the contents of "my_samples" to "my_samples" in your main il2 game folder.
That's It!
This will override your stock 4.12 sounds automatically with high-quality, realistic engine sounds, machine gun/cannon/rocket sounds, and other sounds.
All credits go to Jafa/Jiver from SAS1946..their the ones that made it. I'm just putting it out there

Must have been the same files that I used, as I had to change these Pratt&Whitney's too.
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/68344843/412_csounds.rar
@Blacksage: pls try them out too and tell me if its working ok. You can use whatever you need to complete your pack. I did this for testing the new feature and played quite a while with it, and no more issue occured.
I will soon take them down from my dropbox.

Yea I just downloaded the link you posted and put those in. It's Jivers sound mod.
Prop pitch, radiator, and mixture don't work in Quick Mission Builder. Works fine when I tried it online though.
Maybe there's just a bug with the QMB
Online and QMB use different difficulty settings. Check your settings from QMB. Last time I tried, it worked OK.

Ok, I tested it
The sound are really nice when shooting bullet, because it's like real life (I think, because I didn't hear what sound it make in real life). But the damage sound and the gear touching ground are unrealistic. Because when you touch the ground in the grass, it make like you land on a normal runway... It could be nice to hear wind when you open canopy in flight.
But whatever, the other sound are really nice, but I will stay with the stock one and wait for 4.13m if DT will make more realistic/natural sound.
But nice bob to the creator too. :)

not bad at all
defenetely using the gunfire sounds
as for engines ill stick to teh defaults as i think they are acceptable and i dont have any issues with engines in stock il2
i really was never a fan of the original weapon sounds, sure they work and are not the worst sounds ive even had a stock game ship with but defenetely better with this and especially my custom 4.08 sound mods i made back in the days
gj on this, makes a very good basis for people who want to use custom sounds to just override whatever sound they want to use custom
also TD, could you guys release a readme or something that lists the filenames of all the possible sound files as well as what gun/plane they are for
itd make our lives much easier, but if you guys dont have the time i do understand that as well
good luck on 4.13, im so ready to fly the b24 that was dropped due to being incomplete

You can always deactivate the sounds you don't like and leave those you do... Just a suggestion.

S all!
I did put into de config.ini file the entry:
[game]
DebugSounds=1
And did unrar the mod's files into the "my_presets" and "my_samples" folders.
But it doesn't override the default sounds when I run the game.
What's wrong?
Tx by any help!

Sorry if this is a stupid question...
But are you sure that you extracted the sounds dir in "my_presets"?
There shouldn't be files directly in "my_presets", but only the "sounds" dir that contains files.
Just, to check...

Thats right, its:
.../my_presets/sounds/ (*.prs files)
and
...my_samples/ (*.wav files)

No, it's not official. It's just taken by myself, for testing the feature foolproof, as a average user would do it. Using an existing Sound Mod Pack, was just logical. Since it worked, I just chose to share it to make it easier for some. Nothing related to DT.

I've fixed the problem, erasing all the files in "my_presets" and "my_samplers" folders and extracting the *.prs and *.wav files again.
I'm sure the first time the files were installed into the right folders (I did check it before the cleaning).:?
But now, the new sounds override the default ones and all is OK.

I think this pack needs some fixes...
Yesterday, I installed some of the files (I only wanted to change weapon sounds). It worked, but a few guns sounded the same, despite that they have different sound files. I realized that the game doesnt recognize them, so it loads a "generic" sound. Fortunately it is easy to fix:
All weapon.MGun"weaponname"s.prs files are faulty! The correct names are weapon.MGun_"weaponname".prs for machineguns, and weapon.cannon_"weaponname".prs for cannons.
For example: weapon.MGunUBs.prs should be changed to weapon.MGun_UB.prs.
Or: weapon.MGunShVAKs.prs to weapon.cannon_ShVAK.prs.
BTW, a stupid question: How can I open the console ingame? I managed to do it once, with ctrl+`, but I cant do it again, it simply doesnt work...

If this is really true, can you post a list of all the changes? A lot of players (including me) don't know their cannons from their machine guns...at least not all of them. This would be really helpful. Then at least we could all test this info ourselves to see if it is correct. Thanks.

The list so far:

Anyway, TD, please, could you release the full list of file names the game is looking for in the custom sounds folders? Then it would be possible to correctly rename all files and re-release Jiver's (or anyone else's) sound pack.

Yep, I have.
Seems to be a rather random nature to his pack. First installed it, and only the bullet strike and bomb explosion sounds worked; everything else was default.
Cleared it out, and installed again.
Now some of the engines are new, while others are default, even among different planes that have the same engine. Bullet and bomb strikes are still new. Everything else is still default.
Cleared it out.

Unfortunately, Steerpots' sound pack has same issue of Jiver's one; I mean there are some misnamed PRS files. As a consequence, they are unrecognized by game, which won't load relevant new sounds.
I applied same fix given earlier on this same thread by Gaunt and Artist, adding following further fixes:
M4 cannon (P-39)
M9 cannon (P-63)
N57 cannon (MiG9 I-300; +VYa23 cannon)
NS45 cannon (Yak 9K)
N37 (MiG9FS)
Probably, also Sh37 is faulty, but I was unable to find where it is mounted, as well as shVAKANTIMATTER, which looks to be deserved to Kohzedub.

FYI: Sh37 was previously mounted in error by the original dev team on the Yak-9UT. Later the armament was fixed to incorporate the correct weaponry (NS-37 and B-20S instead of Sh37 and ShVAK).
Also it's hilarious that there is a weapon class named antimatter :)

Hi everyone,
This is my first post at the 1C Forum.
I happened to find this thread last night while doing an Internet search and wanted to chime in regarding Jiver's Sound Mod. I am the creator of Jiver's Total Sound Mod (JTSM) and it is good to see that you guys have an interest in it! I started working on this mod back in 2009 (I think) but have been away from the modding scene for the last year or so. I have been so tied up with real life issues that I have not had really any time to work further on version 2.0 of the mod. However, things have calmed down a bit and I am eager to complete and release version 2.0. My initial plan was to make separate versions of the mod for each of the popular mod packs (UP, HSFX, DBW, etc.) but have found this to be a daunting task! It would be great to release a single sound mod which works with all of the popular mod packs but I would need help with this. What I think I will do initially is release version 2.0 strictly for stock IL-2 1946 v4.12.2\4.13. This will be fairly easy as I already have 95% of the new sounds completed. What do you guys think?
By the way, it is very cool to see some of the Team Daidalos guys posting here! 8)
Also, I would be happy to answer any questions you guys may have about my sound mod and am open to hearing your ideas about how to improve it further.
Cheers,
Jiver

Hi Jiver and welcome to the forum.
I'm an happy user and a fan of your sound mod (installed in UP2.01). I've now installed Steerpots' pack in stock 4.12.2m and I found even higher; its only drawback is engine noise when engine is off in external views.
I think you could start for your development removing weapons naming issue discussed above on this same thread.

Be aware that stock 4.12 now supports custom sounds. HSFX-7 is based on 4.12, so there are at least two big groups that can benefit from your new project.

Tiger's Fly-by sounds are very impressive but it is my opinion that they are a little too loud. I also have had issues with the sounds cutting out from time to time but I believe there are patches to fix this issue. If you go over to the SAS1946 site and look under the "Soundz" section you will find a very large thread dedicated to Tiger's sound mod.
In my sound mod I attempted to balance the external engine sounds with the other sounds in the game (namely the gun and cannon sounds). The engine sounds are still loud and impressive sounding (as they should be!) but they do not totally drown out the gun and cannon sounds. I spent a ton of time tweaking the external engine sounds to get them just right. Sound is totally subjective so you will have to try them out and see if they are to your liking.

Jiver,
Be aware that stock 4.12 now supports custom sounds. HSFX-7 is based on 4.12, so there are at least two big groups that can benefit from your new project.

Hi Aviar,
Yes, it is inevitable that I will eventually have to create a "unified" sound mod that will work for all the popular mod packs. One of the big problems is that I made custom engine sounds for the multi-engine planes which require a modified buttons file. So consequently I must include this modded buttons file with my sound mod and it must work with all of the mod packs out there. I have also used some custom naming conventions for nearly all of the machine guns and cannons in the game which further complicates things. When I initially created the mod back in 2009 it was just a simple sound replacement mod. Over the years it has grown into a much more complicated project!

What I think I will do initially is release version 2.0 strictly for stock IL-2 1946 v4.12.2\4.13. This will be fairly easy as I already have 95% of the new sounds completed. What do you guys think?Jiver
G'day Jiver
Very much looking forward to that.

Can you possibly elaborate a bit on this...maybe with some examples? I'm currently experimenting with Soundpack v5.0 and the folders seem correct to me.
Aviar
Sure.
After you decompress "412soundpackV5.0", 'my_presets' has 'acoustics' and 'sound' as two subfolders. 'acoustics' needs to be a subfolder inside 'sounds'. You will get a mix of stock and soundpack sounds if you just drop it in as is.

Hi Jiver,
Great to have you here!
One thing I noticed from the original version posted here was that I would occasionally get a rare, random bullet hit sounds in cockpit when no one externally or on the ground was firing at my kite. I think one other person also commented likewise.
Look forward to version 2! :)

I don't think so.
If you enable in your conf.ini file "DebugSounds=1", you'll see in game (hitting Shift+Tab to watch console) that "presets" are picked from the two separate folders.
I believe that set (one folder inside another) is typical of mods, which do have their own classfiles and maybe work differently.

I'm not sure who to believe. We have two people with differing opinions on the correct folder structure of a particular sound mod. Is there a way to get a definitive answer to this issue?

Quoting myself:
"If you enable in your conf.ini file "DebugSounds=1", you'll see in game (hitting Shift+Tab to watch console) that "presets" are picked from the two separate folders."
More in detail, you'll see that "acoustics" presets are picked from "...\my_presets\acoustics" and not from "...\my_presets\sounds\acoustics". On the contrary, if stored so, you'll get in console a "NOT FOUND!" warning.
Of course, the above mentioned procedure works only in 4.12, since enabled together with the custom sounds option.

Sorry to bring a thread back from the dead, I recently re installed IL2, updated to 4.12.2m and installed Jivers sound mod.
It says the engine sounds are Jafas, I must say, I had every single Jafa mod I had 4.09 + HSFX 5.1. These sounds are not Jafas engine sounds.
I tested the Merlin, Griffon, Sabre, DB600s, and Jumos. None sounded like the original Jafa sounds.
I installed then as per instructed, just took the contents from inside them 2 zipped folders and installed them into the my preset and my samples in the main IL2 directory.
This is how the Sabre is supposed to sound, sounds nothing like this in the Jivers mod, did he modify Jafa's sounds at all?

Has anyone been able to activate the wing.wav sound in either stock or online sounds for own aircraft (in cockpit or external)?
For example: In QMB, create a Scramble mission on Midway1 with F6f-5s and TBF-1s. On start, you can hear engine sounds, flap hydraulics but not the wing.wav in my_samples on any of the aircraft unfolding wings externally or internally.
Bringing up the null values in the my_presets/sounds/wing.prs does nothing.

The only person making the effort to improve the sounds.
Although I still use this mod, I've found one small bug. If this mod is activated, the L5 Stinson cannot be used in any mission. If you place the L5 into a mission or the QMB, the mission will not load. I'm not sure how a sound mod can have this kind of affect, but when I disable the mod the L5 will load correctly.

Yes, that sound works for me using the sound mod I mentioned in the post above. I'm using HSFX 7.
