CTRL-D is the standard key, unless I'm mistaken.

It's one of those things old timers take for granted, but if you're looking through the .pdf manual (which dates back to the initial release of Pacific Fighters), I don't think that the early IJA/IJN fighters' telescopic sights were mentioned. Even if they were, it might not jump out at someone who is looking for 'sight covers' or something similar for Japanese telescopic sights when the first part of the sentence is about a sunshade for German reflector sights.

I've had most standard functions assigned to buttons on my joystick for so long that I was momentarily stumped trying to remember what the keyboard assignment was --and I was thinking it was something in the F1 family. All I know is that my right thumb started flicking up and to the left the moment I read the original post...

cheers

I usually look for a hot keys list and the readme's.

One of the reasons why I quit playing modern A/C games by 97 was too many keys and buttons to remember. I'd finish programming work that had my head filled and find I had to relearn too much to play a game and that was it for the game and me.
And then I found out what it's like to not be able to remember near as much and have a hard time learning anything, not pleasant at all. The other side of the mountain is downhill most all the way. Just something else to get used to.

@Horseback: Don't misunderstand me please! I do like these questions and I hope they will never stop to drop in. These are the annecdotes you can tell your grandchildren later on the campfire. ;)
