I saw this before a few years ago, and last night it popped up again. Looks like some part of the computer is projecting itself onto the ground and following my aircraft like a shadow across the landscape. Notice the numbers and letters etc..

Yep. Video card memory problem. Are you using any mods? Also make sure, your v-card is cooled properly.

It is an ATI card. Odd thing is that it did this once before a few years ago one time, then I never saw it again until yesterday. Now today it is gone again. I never messed with drivers or anything else to make it appear or go away.
The apparition followed below the plane no matter where I looked on any surface that was close to the aircraft for the whole evening of flying.
I thought it was sort of funny, and in some cases it actually made it easier to spot aircraft that were below me.
Thanks for the ideas, I guess if it is a problem with video card memory then there is nothing I can do anyway except try new drivers or wait for it to blow up.
No, no mods on my computer on any of my IL2 installations, and I have the computer in a cool basement, it is winter here and the side is off the tower with lots of fans. This started as soon as I started the sim up and got onto a server online, so I don't think anything was taxed hard or even warmed up yet.

Heh, that's the game's default splash screen.

Well I checked a few things. My C drive was crowded and running out of space and it needed a defrag. Basic stuff.
A dozen years ago we used to pay a lot of attention to details like that because every little advantage was needed to get playable frame-rates, but with todays computers that are so powerful we forget that anything at all can bog them down.....
Thanks....
