Recently Matrox anounced two new modes for widescreens 3x1440x900 and 3x1680x1050: http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=14170

I am planning to buy a TripleHead2Go an two monitors.

But some people told me that Il2 has a strange behaviour with widescreens... I have a dell 2005fpw (1680x1050) and I had no problems, although it needs a little of editing in the .ini file. But I need a confirmation of such a high resolution like this (5040x1050) is handled by this sim... (FOV, zoom issues, scaling, etc)

Anyone want to share his experiences????

Thanks

Hi Tama, I use TH2G and have not been able to get IL2 to execute with 5040X1050 yet, but am trying to figure out if it may be a possible driver related problem. See page 2 of this post....................

Oleg could tell us if he had not fallen off the face of the earth? Hello Oleg, you out there? Could you fix this for us please? Or add any input?

I spent all last night trying different drivers, adjusting settings in Nvidia control panel, also tried some custom resolutions.

The highest resolution I could get to work was 4080X768 which looks good and is playable for me, but I was hoping that if we could get 5040x1050 that the 1050 would help the FOV vertical clip problem on wide screen monitors.

So, my conclusion, now that TH2G has offered a higher resolution we know that IL2 is the bottle neck here.

For all I know, Oleg's team might could fix this very easily. Is so frustrating not having anyone who can answer questions. If Oleg said "can't be done" then I would let it go and quit spending time with it. My guess would be that it can be done though, but only by Oleg's team.

Any news?????

The internet is unusually quiet concerning IL2 and the new TH2G resolutions.

There is more of a stir concerning FSX and the new TH2G resolutions. I am thinking that however they get FSX to run the new resolutions, maybe IL2 will work the same.

Have been keeping an eye on on this post...............

http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=14361&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0

One person claims he has enabled FSX to accept 3x1440x900 by rolling back to previous drivers.

Please, anyone can confirm if IL2 is playable with 5040x1050?
AND the FOV issue can be fixed???
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!

tama, I installed FSX last weekend and was able to get the 5040x1050 resolution to work, but when changing views like cockpit to chase view the screen backed out for about 5 seconds each time, so that of course is not good.

I spoke to Matrox, I asked them about FSX and IL2, they say their gaming dept. is looking into it and that they do communicate with the game companies of whom TH2G supports and to keep an eye out for a patch either from them (matrox) or the game publisher.

So, eventually I think FSX will be patched\fixed. But I would say it does not look good for IL2 unless matrox comes up with the fix. I doubt UBISOFT\1CMADDOX will look into it. :(

The problem is with Direct X, graphic card drivers and the games themselves.

Is over my head, matrox and or 1C would be our only hope.

Give matrox a call, let them know that there is one more person out there wanting it to work with IL2!

Hi Tama, have been out of pocket, had an uninvited guest show up (hurricane IKE) Just now getting back on my feet!

I have digital TH2G and 3-16:10 ratio monitors. The FOV is correct in IL2 when changing the SAVEASPECT to "=1" but the side monitors are not in unison with the center monitor, it is to funky for me! Especially when turning your head using TrackIR, the horizon dips down (or up) not lining up properly.

As far as the 4:3 aspect monitors, I have no idea, I'd want to hear from someone who has them. I did not purchase the 4:3's because I was building for the future. Am still waiting for SOW.

As far as the new TH2G resolutions, no luck yet getting them in IL2, still hoping.

I have been able to get 5040x1050 using TH2G digital and the SGU utility.
Iam running XP SP3 and it seems to work good. Iam also using 175.?? drivers on my 8800GTX video card.
Iam starting to wonder about Vista operating system?
The FOV stills seems a bit "in your face" but it is very playable and with the TrackIR it is truly an awsome eperience.
Dont know if this will help anyone or not, but just thought id let you guys know what I got.

Excellent news garcol, and I concur. IL2 appears to be holding the 5040X1050 resolution in game when using windows XP 32bit and does not when running Windows Vista 64bit. This is progress!

Now, about that FOV again

I spend hours adjusting and trying different operating systems, drivers and settings trying to get IL2 FOV corrected. But I do not take notes or document everything I have tried. The other day I actually had the correct FOV working in IL2 by playing with the Matrox SGU software and changing the Saveaspect and use3renders in the IL2 cong. file. The correct FOV was in fact working but the side monitors were not in unison with the center monitor, the horizon or land masses did not stay level with one another. Especially when turning your head using TrackIR, the horizon dipped down (or up) not lining up properly.

Even though it did not work 100% correcly, it was encouraging that it worked at all. But now, I can no longer get even that to work, I must have done something besides just the config adjustments:confused:

Oleg, please help oh silent one!

Upon Further review, just because IL2 will pull up with the SGU set to 5040x1050 does not mean its actually working in Windows XP. I have a wider FOV using 3840X960 than 5040x1050 so I would say it is not working.

I went back to Windows Vista and did some more experimenting. I think I may be on to something. (maybe)

I found that by going to the Matrox power desk-SE edit mode list and selecting and setting certain ratio's and resolutions enables certain resolutions to work in the SGU software.

Here is what I tied....................

I selected and applied 1280x960 4.3 ratio setting.
Then I tried these (see below) resolutions in the SGU software for IL2-1946
3840x960 (This resolution worked)
4098x768 (This resolution would not work at all)
4320x900 (This resolution would not work at all)
5040x1050 (This resolution would not work at all)

I selected and applied 1280x1024 5.4 ratio setting
Then I tried these (see below) resolutions in the SGU software for IL2-1946
3840x960 (This resolution worked)
3840x1024 (This resolution worked)
4098x768 (This resolution would not work)
4320x900 (This resolution would not work)
5040x1050 (This resolution would not work)

I selected and applied 1280x800 16.10 ratio setting
Then I tried these (see below) resolutions in the SGU software for IL2-1946
3840x800 (This resolution worked)
3840x960 (This resolution would not work)
3840x1024 (This resolution would not work)
4320x900 (This resolution would not work)
5040x1050 (This resolution would not work)

What is interesting to me is that.............

My monitors are 16.10 ratio, but when I selected a 4.3 ratio setting my computer reboots and reconfigured using that ratio. I don't pretend to understand this but I was not aware that I could even use these settings until I tried them.

Looking at the examples above, I have to select and apply the horizontal resolution from the "edit mode list" that matches the horizontal resolution I want to use in the SGU list.

So, if thats true, doesn't it stands to reason that to get the 5040x1050 resolution in the SGU to work, I would need to be able to select a 1050 horizontal resolution in the "edit mode list" right? Problem is you don't have 5040x1050 to select from in the "edit mode list", I can go to the "change" button in the Matrox power desk-SE and change my desktop resolution to 5040x1050 but that does not mean it working in through the SGU and in the game\sim..

What do you think Oleg, is it a Matrox problem?
