These dudes can really cause some mad damege with the laser beam, granted you have 40 might runes. It's a must have since you go against these huge enemy stacks.
My current build
Thorn hunters, Paladins , Rune mages, Assasins, Soothsayers
Trolls

Too bad they die so easily. I think the consensus is that Rune Mages are overpowered.

On the bright side, if you have the crown that gives +100% damage of plants, and a weapon that gives +1 damage of some sort, they deal 3-5 damage, which is huge. And with lvl 3 Hell Breath, they can reach something like 4-7 I think. Crazy Damage in that situation :D. Another strong point is that they can be ressurected by Fauns.

I know. I used an army like that for a good part of CW. Absolutely amazing. The fact that they're one of the easiest-to-summon units also adds lots of DPS. Summoned Thorn Warriors did even more damage at the cost of being a melee unit.
Unfortunately, I've yet to encounter a crown of thorns in WotN.

I find the effectively unlimited phantom ability of rune mages a lot more powerful (and broken) than the laser beam... stopped using them as it felt too cheesy.
Royal Thorns are pretty cool against a slow opponent, crown of thorns would make them awesome :D
