I forgot to benchmark before installation but it looks smother and faster. Could be placebo though!

Same as you but some of the files ( dxdiag) have a date of 2008 06 09 so they are probably newer.

Hint :Make a new folder somewhere and extract the files to it .Then click on the SETUP icon in it .Made a difference for me too I reckon.Watch where you click when downloading...there was some kind of dodgy looking 'Registry Cleaner' near the link for this download...may be 'harmless' but just be careful

Well im wondering how there are those that claim its smoother ? , as IL2 runs under OpenGL, unless you are running IL2 under DX the only difference would be the sound surely ?

Gleaned from somewhere on the het ages ago re: Open GL under Windowz

"OpenGL for games in Windows XP

For OpenGL hardware accelerated games to work correctly your video cards driver must include OpenGL support in addition to having a video card that supports OpenGL instructions. The great majority of cards support OpenGL, some integrated video chipsets and older video cards (made before 1998) may not or do but at very slow speeds.

The video drivers on the Windows XP CD-ROM (That are installed by default) do not support any form of hardware accelerated OpenGL, so even if your card does, games will fail to run until you install an updated driver from your video cards manufacturer. What would happen in this case would be the game might spot the software mode OpenGL renderer that ships as part of Windows (for certain Screensavers, not suitable to run hardware accelerated OpenGL) and attempt to use it which would bring up the opengl sub system load failures type errors which often appear on the Windows XP Games."

So surely the video card manufacturer supply the Open GL driver for your video card.

Perhaps its a sound thing making it seem smoother ?

That was exactly what I was wondering about. Soundacceleration and soundrendering has always been a widely forgotten way to improve FPS and game-quality. Maybe it really was improved for some hardware configurations. It would be interesting to know, if you use onboard-chips, dedicated soundcards or USB-Sounddevices.

On first glance I also noticed there were a few files exchanged in the directplay tab. Maybe these minor things summed up to some notable improvements on some machine-configurations?

Yes, I use Creative Labs Xtreme Music (latest drivers). After installing this everything runs smoother on my PC. I don't think it it faster, but overall effect is much better. Same goes for IL2.

Just a question, the installer ask me where to install those directX drivers. Where should I install them ?

The installer asks you where to unpack them. Just make a "dummy"-folder and unpack them there, then the real installation-routine should start immediately. If it doesn't, go to the folder you just created and search for the setup-file.
