P&w...2600 / 2800.

You are probably referring to the Wright R-2600-16 that was initially used for the Hellcat. I was to weak and replaced with P&W R-2800 engines. The Corsair had the P&W engines from start.

P&W got wind that Wright was planning a 2600, so they switched their plans to make a 2800. The 2800 was originally intended to be a 2600, but I believe none were ever built. The production P&W was always 2800.
