If you have game of the year edition then get this patch http://www.1cfiles.com/MoWAS_patch/mow-as-goty-update-setup-en-2.05.13.zip and no other patch, you install it over ur fresh installed game.

If you have normal editon then you get this patch: http://www.1cfiles.com/MoWAS_patch/mow-as-update-setup-en-2.05.13-full.zip

However, due to some strange reason that DMS still did not release 2.05.14 patch for non steam customers of the game you will still not be able to play online as most people have 2.5.14 patch that is only available officialy on steam but if you patch ur game to 2.5.13 u can get a manual patch that should work here : http://digitalmindsoft.eu/forums/showthread.php?7700-Patches&p=234865&viewfull=1#post234865

I installed the game + patch 5.2.14. And then I started, but it did not ask for activation this time.

Where did u buy the game? what version is it? If you can use steam try to register your gamespy cd key with steam and then steam will reinstall game for u and download it and auto patch it. If you unwilling or cant then uninstall game make sure all the files are gone manually and also mowas folder under my documents\mygames\ as well reinstall game and then apply patch right away.

Game requires key on first launch? I am not familiar with that version of the game it sounds like it uses some other drm besides gamespy online key.
