Puma, that pic of yours with plane no.54, is very cool looking indeed.
Not to mention the many others that everyone's put up.
Two pics.. just finished the paintjob and thought I'd take her for a spin.

The Blenheim is named after a town in Germany! Not many people know that....
Here is the Blenheim as a fighter against bombers. It has ONE forward firing 0.303 inch machine gun.

Was playing around with combining several smaller shots into one larger one. The idea being to present a long vertical picture with content that sort of unfolds as you scroll down the page. But Imageshack wouldn't let me upload a big enough picture to do that, so...here's the test I did anyway, as large as I could make it, and an all-in-one version.

The stitching is a bit rough I must admit, but I find the hardest part is trying to get the AI elements all in the right place at the right time to take the shot(s). There's definitely potential there though for making some epic action-filled panorama's.

Looking at these pictures I just have to say... this sim looks awesome! :-D
A majority here alway complains about the dumbed down graphics since the rewrite. I agreed with that in most parts refering to the former game versions.
But these pics now look quite mature. Apart from that cloud shadows and high clouds are back. The canopy reflections are more intense as well I think. The lighting effects during dusk/dawn are fine.
I am wondering what is now still missing compared to the release version? Just out of my head I could only list the following:
- reflections of clouds/planes etc in the water below (which looked gorgeous, but also a bit unrealistic dont you think? at least in this intensity)
- morning fog over the landscape
- small calibre hit decals!!!
Did I miss something? In my opinion the game now looks stunning and overall I'm satisfied graphics-wise. Correct me if I am wrong! ;-)
[QUOTE=III/JG53_Don;468556...Did I miss something?...[/QUOTE]
There used to be a lighting effect on the planes that made them look more real and connected to their environment. If you look at the front half of the wings and the lower sides of the fuselage of the plane in the picture below, you can see the reflections there that show the effect. Those parts of the plane are in shadow but are still lit up a little bit by ambient light in the planes surroundings. It's no longer in the game and as a result the planes look more flat and artificial. It's probably regarded as trivial and low priority (like navigation and landing lights) but those sort of details can really add up and make the game a lot more immersive and realistic, for some people anyway.
http://imageshack.us/a/img87/4313/sequence09still186.jpg (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/87/sequence09still186.jpg/)
You can see the effect in action (and in original colour) in this video at 00:15 and 00:38. (It's easier to see when watching in expanded view on Youtube. Just noticed too there are lots of cloud reflections in the water as well in that video :))

Actually some of the shotsposted above are from older versions. If you wqnt to see how bad they chopped the lighting engine in the recent versions, you have to trey an olser version of the game again.
Tryst me. It's day and night. This new lighting engine makes everything look like it's viewed through sun glasses....and a bad pair of sun glasses.
Dawn and dusk colors are pitiful. All that beautiful orange light, giving such nice natural orqnge hue to everything from clouds, to water, to grass and fields, was replaced with a murky dark gray mess.:(
Reflections are almost gone. The cockpits and skins lost a lot of the natral look. Just ask the skiners how bad did this 'new' engine mess up the colors on older skins. Shadows cloud shadows, and the subtle way shadows affected reflections are also gone.
The best way to see the difference is to find an older version and try it yourself. It's like going ten years back in time.
This is what you get when a lighting engine calibrated by a professionl photographer is "fixed" by artisticly impaired computer programers, that didn't see a sunset out in the country in a too long time.
Let me remind you what we had:

these pics DO look terrific no question about that! Especially the combination of morning fog and dawn lighting look great :-)
Anyway I'd rather fly a sim with partly dumbed-down graphics like it is now and can actually FLY the sim smoothly than just look at the graphics, shout "WOW, it looks so beautiful" and then exit, because I can't actually use this as a game.
Lets just hope that they are able to get at least some of it back (maybe in the sequel) without a loss in fps.

My earlier vershion plays just as well as the current beta, but the beta has a better sound...a real dilemma for me

Ah I miss those graphics. I think when they redid the lighting to get rid of the Shrek green noon hour colors they fudged the beautiful sunrises and sunsets. There was something truely fun about going for a solo morning flight with all the sunlight, clouds, and fog. I really wish they could bring that stuff back but with keeping the sounds and stability of the newer versions of the game.
I guess we can hope the sequel can deliver and return the channel map to greatness?

Regarding the long vertical pictures, have you tried imgur.com?
I haven't tried them, but going by their FAQ info their file size limit is lower than Imageshack's, they also have a lower view-it-or-lose-it threshold too. Thanks anyway for the suggestion. If I do more of those kinds of images I'll try lowering the image quality to reduce the file size, as I didn't even think to do that before.

With the new patch RC2 and a Spitfire MKIa 100oct I have tried and did get to 28100 feet of altitude without any difficulties, without exploding my engine by fiddling with the rudder trim and the pitch, mixture, radiator opening, here is a picture to attest it (add 1000 mb );

Mission one of the RAF campaign. Shot down two Dorniers before expending all ammunition. Pistol whipped a third with my port side Brownings and chased the rest for a few minutes before disengaging and starting the long flight home. Flew a circut before dropping flaps and throttling right back for a nice landing on the grass.

What needs to be understood is that Cpwn and I were flying G50s for laughs, and we didn't quite have the engine controls down pat. As such both of our aircraft were shuddering so badly we feared engine failure at any moment. Somehow we managed to do a whole sortie, even shooting down a spitfire, all whilst getting impromptu butt massages from the engine.

So much of what the writer wanted to communicate gets lost when put on a forum. Maybe he can enlighten me.
I thought the screenshot was great, as submitted, without any comments about the technical aspects needed. What, after all, was the point?

Yep, it happens a lot in the forums.... And afaik most missunderstandings tend to end in negative situations, no idea why it almost no missunderstandings make the situation better....

If the game can survive at all, it might just be a matter of waiting for the hardware to catch up...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hruTCx74iZw
Upgrade is the only way my older rig wouldnt even play Clod without graphics folding.
I bit the bullit, upgraded my rig and now I play with the sliders maxed with hardly any problems.
Radio comands still dont work but other than that IMO its mostly the online games that are sooo bad?
For me I would like to see a mission structure like 1946,ie whole timeline with new planes as and when there made.

From the stock 'British attack column' quick mission.
This is one of the Luftwaffe bases overlooking the channel with the white cliffs visible in the distance.
I was looking around the base after landing, spending quite a lot of time doing so, when one of the trucks started it's engine and moved from it's position next to one aircraft, drove across the airfield and stopped beside another. I thought it was a nice touch.
View from a Luftwaffe base:

Photobucket is free. Use the old interface if you are given the choice...it has links under each thumbnail and you just click once and they are copied ready for you to paste here.

When I click on 'Manage Attachments' it says I can attach .jpg image files up to 9.54 MB (5000x5000 pixels) in size, so uploading to another site shouldn't be necessary, unless you want the images to be embedded in the thread so people don't have to click on them to see them full size.

[edit: I just checked, there shouldn't be any file size limit anymore on Photobucket.]
I don't think Photobucket has a size limit for picture dimensions, but there is a file-size limit (amount of Megabytes) for free users. This is quite high though, and shouldn't be a problem. Go to the settings in your account, and change the maximum upload to the highest in the list.
The file size limit has never been a problem for me. It's quite high...
But Don't use this site, it's full of bugs and the support is terrible.
I just tried to access my photos for over 1 hour, and couldn't.

AA set @ 'application controlled', 16x anisotropic filtering, 'adaptive V-sync'.

I have to say that as far as bomber gunners go, we've gone from one extreme to the other compared to the original Il2 snipers. ;)

Glad you like them, No1 Cheese.
Hi Laszlo, all pics Untouched, straight from the game using SweetFX SMAA_PRESET_ULTRA settings. On the last shot (Hurricane chasing He111) the aircraft are almost silhouettes on my monitor. I can just make out the prop spinner on the Hurricane.
Here are some comparisons from various times of day.

SMAA is truly amazing. Settings to middle + SMAA = Setting on very high without SMAA.
And FPS-Loss is minimal...
