Two things. 1/ 4.11 borked my game. I've done a partial and then a clean install and no go? I'm good right through 4.10.1 no complaints. 4.11 borked? 2/ As my flying skills have improved I have come across a new danger to me during combat. It's when in close proximity to the enemy aircraft the computer "takes control" and stops my ability to maneuver. I have literally pounded my joystick to it's stops cursing viciously the Gods hoping to break this hold over my flying control to no avail while waiting for the inevitable. Getting machine-gunned or chewing my prop through some unlucky Joes tail assembly. That's my explanation. I hope someone understands it. My question is does anyone know if I can adjust this "control" in one of the files. I have no idea what it would be called or where to look so any and all help would be appreciated that leads to a cure.

Fight on and fly on to the last cartridge and the last drop of fuel, then break for home. I've found that being low on fuel and defenseless was the real survival test. Enjoy the game.

Hm, I'd gladly help but frankly I think I have no idea what you're talking about.

1. borked? What does that mean? Porked, perhaps? Does the sim even start? If not, are you sure you applied the patch correctly (installation path etc...)? If yes, what's wrong? Yes, a lot has been changed in 4.11, if you don't like it, don't use it.

2. As my flying skills have improved I have come across a new danger to me during combat. It's when in close proximity to the enemy aircraft the computer "takes control" and stops my ability to maneuver.
Is this in 4.11 or? Are you sure you are not engaging autopilot in some way? (like: autopilot bound to the same joystick button as the "fire", for example, so whenever you fire, you engage the autopilot too)

Could you be more specific?

The latest patch is 4.11.1, in case you're having troubles running 4.11.

TinyTim, "Hm, I'd gladly help but frankly I think I have no idea what you're talking about." and that's where you should have left it. FYI "borked" = software broken. "if you don't like it, don't use it." is not only most unhelpful but rude, besides the fact that a successful install is required first to "like it". It's an AI proximity issue that I experience whenever a aircraft is directly below me or directly above me. Under those circumstances your ability to maneuver is taken away until whatever the AI aircraft is doing is done or it turns away from you. I thought there might be a line in one of the files somewhere that gave this behavior a function number like 0 off, 1 on.

JtD Thanks for your reply. Do I need to install 4.11 first or does patch 4.11.1 replace 4.11?

4.11.1 goes on top of 4.11.

JtD Got it. Downloaded a new 4.11 file from a different server and took the chance and just added it to current 4.10.1 it worked perfect so I dumped in 4.11.1 and it worked too. Earlier copy of 4.11 must have been corrupted? Patches are all in the good so thanks. Now do you know anything about AI proximity behavior controls. I'm getting into a lot of close quarter slow turning aerial combat now and when things get with in certain parameters [single-player] the game stops your ability to maneuver, the joystick no longer responds to input, and you can be pushed into the ground by an AI aircraft from above you or crashed into from below. It's like the software says, "if you are here in this space at this time you must be the AI aircraft coded to be flying this flight path." and no longer "sees" all the aircraft. Thankfully it doesn't happen a lot but I'd sure like to turn that bit off. It's not like it stops AI aircraft from colliding into me which is a greater fear than being shot down because of the way the single-player campaigns are scripted. Like my complete flight going after the same single enemy aircraft while leaving me to dog fight it out with six. Six superheros who don't black out/red out or feel the effects of G as they turn, climb, dive in rapid succession. Be nice if Team Daidalos gave IL2 1946 single-player campaigns AI some attention. wink wink nudge NUDGE :-)

S!

Sounds like a very weird problem :O .. Are you sure that your joystick USB just doesn't come loose in the heat of combat? ;)

Make sure you have bound all the automation controls to keys you don't press by accident. There are three if I remember correctly: "autopilot", "autopilot automation" and "level stabilizer" ... Might not be exactly like that, but close.
