View Full Version : Skirmish in MP Mode - How?

Hello Again,Trotskygrad, and others...

I now understand that Skirmish mode is the only mode which allows cooperative play.

1. When I go to Internet > Skirmish mode, there is a pull-down for 2-8 players. If I picked, say, six players from that list, will the AI adjust to a game that is "meant for six players", or does it keep spawning the same amount of units, regardless of how many players I pick on "my side"?

2. Also, I didn't quite understand the hint screen when it tried to explain how Cooperative works in Skirmish. I guess initially, each co-op player has their own, separate starting troops, and the reinforcements get evenly split between us? I am not sure how each cooperative player get to pick the type of resources we want flown in, when we both have the same MP point counter. How does this work?

Thank you for your help!

the "reinforcement point" pool is shared. You and your friends both can order units from the MP menu. The reinforcements will go to the player with the fewest units currently, regardless who ordered it in (this can be annoying, but oh well, if you've got cooperative pubbers/friends, you can just transfer control to each other).

As for AI adjustments to player count... I'm pretty sure it has no effect. You'll get the same amount of reinforcements, the main point of adding more players is to lessen the micro load on each individual.

I appreciate the offer, Trotskygrad!

Don't get me wrong, I love this game. It is a refreshing break from COH. I have been playing that game since its inception in 2005.

I wasn't aware of an "Ammo Truck"; maybe I will see that later on in the American mission, else, I don't know where to look for it, and move it along.

I am trying to get my COH buddy to buy this game, in order for us to Coop across the 25 mission maps. Then, somewhere along that journey, jump into MP games.

I think if I hooked up my Logitech G13, like I do with COH, it may also enable smoother unit control.

Regards, Marc

Haha, sorry, the ammo truck is listed as "supply truck" under support.

You also get one supply truck and one engineering truck (Save it, it's your only one) for free at the start of every mission, however they don't have anyone in them

you can access their contents by clicking x and clicking on them, they contain I think about 1000 rifle rounds, 1000 SMG rounds, ~20 grenades, a couple health kits, etc.

Engineering truck has mines, tank traps and barbed wire.

You can also put riflemen in the trucks and drive them around, be advised though, trucks aren't very resistant to gunfire.

(one notable MP game, someone decided to bring his infantry to the front lines in a supply truck. Bad idea. I put one AT grenade into that truck and got 12 kills).

Trotskygrad,

Thank you, again.

Well, if THAT is the case, then, really, the micromanagement of ammo comments, should be made, but, there is a fair "workaround": simply have your supply truck move around the back of your front lines, and have your men "fill up" whenever is necessary. This is good news, and, in a way, kinda realistic.

Excellent to know about the engineering truck, too.

And, yes, bad news to drive around with your men in the supply truck too close to the front line! LOL.

I would think that using the INF re-supply trucks are the way to ship around units, if you wanted the speed of moving troops behind your lines.

Thanks again, Trotskygrad, you are improving my gameplay and enjoyment, by telling me these things.

actually what I usually do is I offload the contents of the truck to the nearest tank/halftrack that's supporting the troops, and have them stock up from there. That way fire support can br provided and the troops have a nearby store of ammo. Halftracks for troop movement are much safer in general, since 2 riflemen can't ruin your day by shooting out the wheels.

If it doesn't *explode* in combat (eg, if there's still a hull that isn't burnt out), you can still recover ammunition and weapons from that after it's been knocked out.

Mr. T,

How does one "transfer control" of troops from one co-op person to the next? AND, does this method of reinforcement also apply to MP?

Thanks,

Marc

sorry for late-ish reply

there's a button in the upper-right corner

and no, MP, you have your own reinforcement point pool that is not shared with your teammates. It also gains points at a rate that's not variable to control points.
