Hi Revi
See my sig for a local "to you in NZ" server which has been running 24/7 since about 2003.
We only use direct IP or Xfire or All Seeing Eye, No HyperLobby.
Players on every night from all over Au/NZ.
Also our local site www.kiwisim.net.nz for the Il-2 for bi-weekly hosted COOP missions run as part of TFK a adhoc completely unformal squad.
We have a local TeamSpeak server if you want to drop in and chat.

Hi Revi, great to see another Kiwi ;)
For those nights that the Inspire is empty, come onto hyperlobby and search for any RAF_ Members. We have quite a few from NZ, and we alway's enjoy flying with fellow kiwi's ;)

Are your brother and you in a LAN? Or are you at different places in NZ and use Internet access?
This changes much about how you can fly with him...
In case you are in a LAN you (the host) must tell your friend your (private) IP within the LAN, and he must input this address in the multiplayer window (Multiplay->Connect to server IIRC).
In case you are at separate places and want to play via Internet, the easiest way is downloading Hyperlobby (http://hyperfighter.sk ) and set up a mission with a password (so that no one else can join the game besides you and your brother)

One of you has to hit "create new server" and set up the game, then the other hits "Join server" and plugs in the IP of the other guy. No matter how many players (2-32) one has to be the "server". The good news is that the server has control over everything.
Make sure that if you have a firewall, it is set to let the game use the proper port (usually 21000)
Oh and BTW the port # must be added after the IP like this EG;
203.310.56.3:21000
