View Full Version : Copy & Paste / Raise & Lower

This is manly to do with building runway lighting.

I used to have a tool that would place objects between 2 points.

Place a light at one point (end of the runway) and another (other end of runway). The tool would place lights in a straight line between the points at the correct co-ordinates, this was done outside of the FMB in the .mis file.

I have lost this little tool that saved so much time, however I remembered the copy ans paste feature.

With the copy and paste tool in the FMB I'm able to copy some of my old runway lighting templates but I cannot raise or lower the templates (200 objects) with F4 is there something out there can can do this or am I missing something in the FMB.

I need either a tool for placing those long straight lights or a raise/lower function on Copy & Paste group objects.

Thanks

I'm not sure I completely understand your question, but you can raise/lower objects (and maybe multiple ones) by pressing F4 and dragging with the mouse.

...but you can raise/lower objects (and maybe multiple ones)...

I have found that if you select multiple objects like the stationary lights you can not raise or lower them using the F4 and mouse.

As far as I have found, you can rotate them using the number keyboard but anything else can't be done.

Ok

Then if not possible in the FMB has anyone got the old object tool that was made for creating long lines of fencing or lights ?

PS:

If anyone from TD look in here can we have group objects raised and lowered plz

This is from the 4.10 Guide concerning a new FMB feature:

--------------------
Snap

Snap allows you to move objects along a grid. This helps placing objects with equal distance to each other. This option can be reached through View -> Snap. Make sure that the option is checked. You can also set the 'snap step'. Smaller step makes the grid where objects can be placed denser.
--------------------

Personally, I haven't been able to get this to work. However, if YOU do, maybe you wouldn't mind posting a solution here.

Nope snaps never worked for me either.

DT have dropped a few past FMB features on You Tube before when in development,
we would benefit from sample missions and YT vid's showing these feature applications in real time use.

This will help us use these features as they were intended instead of wasting hours and hours on is it a feature or bug !!

You need to move the objects after placing them on the map, then they will snap into position. That's what I missed when I first reported snap not working.

Guess for now we need to stick to copy and past for multiple object height corrections.

Nope. Still doesn't work. I tried moving them....nudging them....praying for them to Snap....nothing.

Can't be ... can it? We're using the same software, so it should work for both of us.

Do you have anything that sets your installation apart from a vanilla one?

Just to make sure, that's what I do:
- start the game
- go into FMB
- open a map
- zoom in
- click on snap in the scrolldown menu -> a little pop up pops up
- set hook at enable snap
- select a light object from the stationary objects
- insert it
- left klick and drag it -> it moves along the grid in steps as big as I set in the pop up, it "snaps"
- insert another one, drag it, snaps too, easy way to form a line with all objects at the same distance

How can this not be working?

Nope. Nothing happens. No snapping here. I can select and move those lights all I want....they won't snap anywhere.

Not working here either.
It must work. If you have followed all of the JtD's it should work. Snap distance is in meters so you might not notice the snap unless you don't zoom in enough.

Important is to know that with zooming I don't mean going into 3d view, snap works in 2d only.

Try to move the object, then it will snap. The same goes for multi object selection.
When you just insert the object, it doesn't snap.

Ok I have it working now, I had to load a blank map for some reason I wasn't able to edit them into a GoF map I'm currently using.

Sorry, but I can't get it to work. See the screenshots. What am I doing wrong?

I am trying in both 2D and 3D. Neither works. I have 3 lights placed on a blank map. I click on any one and move it, but it does not snap anywhere.....it just moves to where I place it and then stays there. NO SNAP......LOL

(Is this a joke???)

You need to zoom more, your snap distance is just 10 meters and in your current zoom level one squre is 1km so you can't see 10m movement from there.

Try this in the snap step distance box 100.0

The object only snaps to a grid intersection so its no use wanting to use it for runways.

If TD wouldn't mind giving us the ability to raise/lower group objects that would be be the best option.

Cheers.

The funny part is, I was not even trying to use this feature. I simply posted to try and help Alpha.

If somebody had just said ....INCREASE THE STEP SETTING, YA DUMMY....we would have gotten it right away.

Default that 10 setting to 500 and this tragedy will never happen again.

"The object only snaps to a grid intersection so its no use wanting to use it for runways." *Not true. Once you have a nice line of lights, you can then copy and move them as a group to the runway.

Well getting a nice line of lights is the problem.

The small utility I had did a great job of lights and fencing etc.

This ways a pain.

The group objects copy, paste, raise and lower on the F4 key is a better option :)

Looks neat but light spacing is insane :). 30m or even 60m interval would be more realistic.

Yes

But lights are different under various versions.

These are from old runway fire conversions +/- mod packs

So its tough to keep a happy medium with everything.

Needless to say, every one to their taste of things :)

Was "Group Cloner" or "Quick Object Tool" the utility that you remember using?
