Neep help identifying plane ( Xilon_x please read)

This is a copy from legio XIII facebook page. As the author says, the plane is probably Italian, and no one know Italian planes as Xilon_X, so if you could help us out would be awesome.

The engine cowl is too shallow, and the vertical stabilizer is a bit too big and tall for it to be an Ro.43. Definitely not a CANT 25AR.

Are you sure this is an Italian vessel?

the shape of the tail is not 'typical of a ro43, missing the insigna of regia aereonatica are not Italian Italian

That kind of fin flash (with different colours) was used also by the French and of course British forces.

The closest match for the plane I could think was the Curtiss SOC Seagull (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SOC_Seagull). If that plane was used by the Royal Navy, it would have the tri-color fin flash as in the picture.

Also, the ship is an American "Northampton Class" heavy cruiser. Compare the photo in the post to the detail in this photograph, paying attention to the structure just aft of the ship's mid section, under the no. 2 funnel:

It's difficult to tell from a fuzzy b&w photo but the OP's illustration is likely a pre-war or very early war photo, as the Seagulls seem to have the early red cowling and red, white, and blue rudder, and possibly the chrome yellow wings, and the unpainted sliver fuselage.
