about as popular as Fijian hill clans of pre-medieval era .. the ball park is open for Unicorn to do a Euro-centric / US-centric game chasing disgruntled RTS gamers.

go for it!

What?! and do you want loss the possibility to use gaitlings camping over a hill, wating the adversary which try to fight with swords and lance?!!? CA miss my suggestion to implement nuclear weapons vs samurais

I think it's called "development efficiency" where you reuse units time and again in similar scenarios hoping the plebs don't notice! :-P

Actually it's a smart move if you have the right units (meshes , animations etc), like Real warfare. Northern Crusade units could be used in "Knights & Castles" - "Norman Conquest" ? .. "100 years war" ??? etc etc etc

It's really not a bad idea (I mean gatlings/ironclads/railroads not nukes;)). As someone said CA is probably preparing ground for WWI:TW. It's next logical step. High time IMO. TW style game about Cold War and nukes are nearly finished (Wargame: European Escalation). I think CA wants his piece of "modern warfare" cake too.

If so is the case it would really sadden me. Not only that the tactics would be very different, how could possibly the scales be the same as previous TW games? Even though many WW battles were massive, it's about skirmish all the way, not lines. At the same time, aircraft would fill up a new slot, being a more deadly tactical factor than both tanks and all types of soldiers on foot. It doesn't make any sense I think, if they make a WW game. How would infantry be positioned? They'd have to use every building and stuff as cover, still not in a line, and the firing would probably last for hours and hours.
