Hello, I have a situation. I have the original IL-2 game (no expansion packs, sequels, ect.) and I've noticed finally that many of the planes I was hoping to fly need to be unlocked, but I can't find a list of prerequisites for the ORIGINAL IL-2 game. Nevermind additional weapons, can anyone get me a list of these prerequisites, or at least tell me what ones can be obtained and which are unflyable?

There is no such thing, bud. If you want more planes you need to buy a later version of the game. There are some patches for the original game which might ad a few more planes, but you'll get a lot more by just buying the latest version (1946) and patching up to v 4.101. Then if you want even more you could look to the Mods.
P.S. IL2 1946 can be Downloaded for dirt cheap these days!

Are you talking about "IL-2 Sturmovik" or "IL-2 Birds of Prey". IL-2 Sturmovik and all of the follow on products including Forgotten Battles, Ace Expansion Pack, Pacific Fighters and the ultimate IL-2 1946 version do not have unlockable aircraft. Everything listed in the Quick Mission Builder that is available to fly is what is in the game.

Wait, so planes like the JU-87 and I-16, which are even seen being flown in the intro scene, aren't even flyable? Lots of empty promises there, then.

 -- did you not read the small print before you bought it.
Take the advice above and invest in IL-2 Sturmovik 1946.
You will never look back.

Meyerm, the question made by Icefire is the key.
are you sure you got Il-2 Sturmovik? (not birds of prey) Which version do you have? IIRC I-16 and Ju87 were flyable since day cero.
That is a game form 2001. And still kickin`. Not a single empty promiss , just a big thank to the old Il.2.

Which game are you talking about?
In IL-2 1946 with the latest patch there are:
- I-16 Type 5
- I-16 Type 5 with skis
- I-16 Type 5 SPB (for attaching to a TB-3 mothership)
- I-16 Type 6
- I-16 Type 6 with skis
- I-16 Type 18
- I-16 Type 24
- I-16 Type 24 SPB (for attaching to a TB-3 mothership)
and...
- Ju87B-2
- Ju87D-3
- Ju87D-5
- Ju87G-1
So that's 8 versions of I-16 and 4 versions of Ju87 and they are all flyable aircraft. But that is IL-2 1946. Which game do you have specifically?

In his first post he states that the game is IL-2 ORIGINAL. So I guess he means the first one released 10 years ago.

Or he could mean IL-2 Birds of Prey. That could be considered "original" too... people do and say confusing things because they don't specify the details :)

Actually, I believe that a fully patched up version of the original Il-2 offers the free (unpromised) bonus of an addon I-16 and the Ju-87B2 (so one does not even need to pick up 1946).
The Ju-87 was considered for the original Il-2, but no promises were made and it was decided not to include it (alongside a public announcement) prior to the the original release in 2001 (yes ten years ago Oleg speculated and then confirmed that it would not be in the initial release).

Hard to imagine anyone is still running the "original" Il-2 now when 1946 is so much better and cheap. I seem to remember that in the very first unpatched version of Il-2 neither the I-16 nor Ju-87 were flyable, but patches came along to fix that.

Nope, at release the I 16 was not a flyable. It came in a later patch, I remember waiting for it with much anticipation.
I started flying IL2 on December 26 2001.

Other than for nostalgia, I can't think of any reason why anyone would bother with the original IL-2, frankly, patched or not. 1946 has everything the original IL-2 had, and orders of magnitude more.
It's like restricting yourself to driving a ten-year-old Toyota Corolla when you have access to a Ferrari 599.

More like a 40 year old Toyota.. Other than curiosity or nostalgia there is no reason to use the original IL2 and expect but so much. Meyerm you need to suck it up and buy 1946 (http://www.bing.com/shopping/search?q=il2+1946&qpvt=il2+1946&FORM=HURE#x0y75)period. Then come back with issues if you find them. No offense.
