It's been 10 years but finally a better single player experience is in sight!

This is amazing progress guys, I hope I'm not stealing your thunder by posting this here but I just had to share this clip because it's such an exciting development.

I'll certainly be dusting off my copy of 1946 and DCG when this patch hits the servers! As someone who has persistently and very vocally bemoaned the flaws of the AI in this game I wanted to be first to congratulate you on your excellent work.

AI is probably one of the most challenging things to tinker with so good on you all for having a go because it adds so much to the game.

~S!

If this is the case... about b.l.o.od.y time...
Yup... time to get the duster out.

Agree, IMHO this is the biggest upgrade we've seen since FB for changing the core of the sim. It'll change all the existing campaigns and mission for better, leading to more replayability. I must have replayed that four plane break like 10 times now :)

I haven't been on the IL2 scene in a long time, before the modding really picked up speed, so I'm going to ask some really stupid questions.

Who is Team Daidelos, and how can I get this upgrade/mod/patch of theirs?

There are no stupid questions

Team Daidelos is a group of developers, who - with the official approvement of Oleg Maddox, 1c, and Maddox Games, in their spare time, and with no financial gain whatsoever - develop IL-2 further.

Oleg had developed IL-2 until version 4.08. After that TD took over and published 4.09 through 4.10.1m. Now we're all patiently and under gread suspens waiting for 4.11.

The "Il-2 Sturmovik: 1946"-CD contains version 4.071m and a patch to version 4.08.

So you'll have to (and exactly in this order):

buy and install "Il-2 Sturmovik: 1946" (make a backup, just copy the directory)
Execute patch 4.08 (in the CD) (make a backup)
Download and install patch 4.09b1m (http://forum.1cpublishing.eu/showthread.php?t=10276) (make a backup)
Download and install patch 4.10m (http://forum.1cpublishing.eu/showthread.php?t=17765) (make a backup)
Download and install patch 4.10.1m (http://forum.1cpublishing.eu/showthread.php?t=18751) (make a backup)

The v4.09b1m patch was the beta patch. The Daidalos Team v4.09m patch made the beta patch obsolete. You also forgot the v4.09m skins patch. :)

There is a mega patch uploaded at M4T that will take you from the CD version of v4.07 all the way to the current Daidalos Team version 4.10.1m. It includes the v4.09m skin pack.
IL-2 MegaPatch 4.10.1m_EN: http://www.mission4today.com/index.php?name=Downloads&file=details&id=4088

Here is a patching guide at M4T with the current patching order and links to the individual patches for those who don't want to use the mega patch.

What you see in the video is a preview. 4.11 is not out yet.

"What you see in the video is a preview. 4.11 is not out yet."

Exactly. Let's not forget what happened with the 4.10 patch. We were shown previews for several new 4.10 features that never made it into the patch.

So before everyone gets all excited about any new feature, let's wait and see what is actually included in 4.11.

Good news, hopefully ai won't be "cheating" and pulling accurate and sustained lead on a plane that is below its nose though. On the other hand, a little rudder is enough to throw off ai's aim, this needs to be addressed for the higher ai skill levels. The kind of shooting in the video might actually be an accurate representation for skill levels below ace imo. Real pilots didn't have the a fraction of shooting practice we have

1. AI will not be able to keep track of a plane below its own nose. So if it starts to pull for a lead shot, it will instead estimate the movement of its target.
2. AI rework is finished (we are just looking for bugs) and will be in 100%.

Is Team Daidelos involved with the reworking of the dgen exe or is that the work of a seperate group or person?

Nice... a few questions.
After it loses sight of you when will it regain sight again.
Will the AI's sight be restricted by other structures such as the wings... and will it then roll or move to enable itself to see where the target 'should' be ?

This would a very important feature for a/c that can roll very fast FW, I15/16, P40.. etc as they can hide under structures of the attacker, buying valuable seconds.

Otherwise sounds good - great stuff!

Is there anyway to make donations to you?

Unbelievable, you guys did MORE??
Ok, from HawgDog over at UBI in 2001 to today.
I am freaking IM-pressed.
downloading various patches etc, New computer a year ago, it never got the IL2 installed.
Later, much later today I plan on saying "when you get to hell, tell 'em hawgdog sent ya"

If that weren't clear enough, a very humble thankyou for this.

Yes, thank you Daidelos team for sticking by the best flight sim ever.

This is a great gift to guys like me that don't do Hacks(mods) and patiently wait for you guys to do it right.

A million thanks! I don't do mods, either (not saying there's anything wrong with using them, I just choose not to) so your continuous support of this already marvelous gem is enthusiastically appreciated.

I've been away from IL-2 for quite a while (got kinda distracted with SH3/4 and then RoF), but I spent a few years with IL-2 a while back and always loved it. I saw something about the 4.11 release over on the RoF forums and just had to come by and see what was up.

WOW - this looks like a tremendous amount of very good work, and after dusting off my 1946 DVD and patching up to 4.11, I have to say I'm amazed how well IL-2 has survived and progressed after all this time. Just took a Bf-109F2 for what turned out to be a leisurely tour over Army Group Center's operational area (I'd forgotten how much harder it was to navigate in IL-2 than it is in RoF - got completely lost but actually managed to fly roughly along the mission plan and make it back home, thanks to that new invention called radio :) ) - missed all the action but had a blast anyway. Looking through the 4.11 manual it's clear there's a ton of cool new stuff to check into since I last saw IL-2, and I'm looking forward to spending lots more time in the IL-2 skies.

Thanks for all this effort and for breathing new life into this great old sim - fantastic job!

Absolutely fan-freakin'-tastic job on this patch TD! You guys have fixed the main things that have always bothered me about IL-2 (AI issues, engine management, FW-190 handling in particular).

Now instead of looking at the huge list of flyables in IL-2 and thinking to myself, "What's the point? The AI is borked and I can never catch them and even if I do they always do the same manuever. Plus the FMs don't match what I have read.", I am thinking whahooo! Look at all these planes and options and scenarios I get to play with! I had a mil aircraft nerdgasm.

The way you guys did the 6 DoF is excellent too. Top-notch job! I hope you guys are involved in sim development for a long time to come.

Tomcat, I don't know where you get off buddy but your post is uncalled for.

If you have issues with the game, fair enough, but your manners are frankly disgusting and if you think representing your views here in that obnoxious and unwarranted manner are anything but unreasonable then I pity your relations, people who have the misfortune to call you a friend and any other sorry soul you happen to cross paths with.

Besides which, your rather unsavoury opinion is completely baseless.

Have a nice life.

Yes, Il2 outsmarts CoD now ;-) It has far more to offer than CoD and has become an even bigger competitor than it already was.

Many thanks to TD/DT. Il2 has become fun again and even more's underway...;-)
