Hi there
I have il2 1946 4.101m and the game crashes sometimes. The picture freezes and there are like small squares on the screen and after a while it goes to black. The sound goes on. I have to hard reset the computer.
I have winXP prof
ATI Radeon HD 4870 (catalist 11.9 - the last one)
Intel Core Due E8400
2GB ram
onboard sound card on Gigabyte EP45-DS3L board
Anyone experiencing the same?? Any solution or advice?
Thanks

Hi and welcome to the 1C forums.
There are some errors in your conf.ini.
Try this conf.ini first to see if it runs stable, then we can tweak more later :)

thanx for config. I have just tried it but after like 2mins the same... squares and then black. The worst is that there is no log nowhere so I don't know where to start troubleshooting.. :(
So what could be the next step?
found only this log with fresh date

Small squares? Are those in place of where the text should be? If that's the case then it's probably your ATI card. You should firstly run the game on "excellent" rather than "perfect" and then figure out which drivers you need to get the game running well in perfect mode. As I recall, the last diver that did that was 11.5.
I don't have an ATI card right now, but for a while I did have a computer which had one. It's too bad that Il-2 doesn't run well on them, but it should handle most other games just fine.

yep. squares.not in the text. it's like if the next frame draws over the previous but only on some squares spread over all the screen. like shifting the screen. game (sound) goes on I can hear the engine and my crash to the ground or whatever.
I don't run it on perfect. I have only vehicle detail on excellent and the rest even lower.
You mean that 11.5 was the last ok or it was the first with problems?
I have no problems in any other game/app at all.

IL2 1946 runs under OpenGL default, unless you have switched it to Dx.
Have you tried Driver Sweeper to clear out old ATI and Nvidia files and dll's

.

driver sweeper is discontinued.... my be i'll try to find something similar.
Tried to switch to OpenGL but with the same result with 10.12 and 11.10.
Is there a log somewhere in il2 directories?

You need to clean up your system from old driver installations to make sure its clean.
Can you repost your conf.ini again from the IL2 directory, I want to see if anything changed after I altered the old one.

tried to sweep but I don't think that the program works correctly. After analyse it suggests all the ATI files. When I click clean it removed all the files and after reboot the driver complained that it's missing some registry entries so I had to reinstall the drivers...

Thats the point of the Driver Sweeper,
it removes all old drivers, and the current one,
if you have a Nvidia card installed before the ATI then clean those as well,
after running the software you will have to re-install the ATI graphic driver.
The conf ini looks ok,
I see you have been running under Direct X and not Open GL though.
I take it other games are ok with your graphics card ?

reinstalled win on separate disk. updated win. drivers for ATI is from the update (ATI Technologies Inc. ; 1/26/2011 ; 8.821.0.0)
the same result. BUT this time there is a system log!
Dependent Assembly Microsoft.VC80.CRT could not be found and Last Error was The referenced assembly is not installed on your system.
Resolve Partial Assembly failed for Microsoft.VC80.CRT. Reference error message: The referenced assembly is not installed on your system.
Generate Activation Context failed for D:\WINDOWS\system32\atiadlxx.dll. Reference error message: The operation completed successfully.
any idea what does that mean?

Looks like net framework is missing needed for ATI driver installation.
Net frames comes with ATI driver packages usually, make sure you install it.

installed .net framework 2 and updated it with win update.
disabled the onboard sound codec and inserted SB Audigy and it seamd that he problem is solved. I flew some missions w/o problem. Till now. And I'm back. the same smal squares and screen freeze. It doesn' look like a complete computer freeze cuz I can switch on/off numlock. I really dont know. The win log is w/o any error
Can I somehow truss an application??

got a picture of of the screeen. But recently it goes directly to black screen and the computer is dead. Have to reset it. What is depressing that windows logs are clear so from the win view all is ok.
any ideas?
thanks

That looks like an overheating/faulty graphics card problem.

I agree with Alpha... it looks very like a hardware problem. IL-2 is very much stressing video cards, so its possible, that other games still work fine.
Try to clean your hardware with a brush from dust. May help.
