i'd very much like to invite all of you over to our site, IL2 Free Modding.

we've been in operation for a small while, yet we've made a lot of progress, both with old mods and new mods, and the work continues with the wonderful help of many 'new' and learning modders from all over the world.

we're trying "HARD" to have a non-political, friendly, FREE for EVERYBODY site where both mod makers 'and' the general 'flying' public can drop in and hang out, or can use our mods, or make/offer mods of their own...in complete freedom from other sites. we don't care about the past, we only care about the future of IL2 and the love of modding (and making and keeping both old and new friends from everywhere!)

we'd love to have you drop by.

we've got a new float skin pack available for the early model Wild Catfish float fighter... give's three choices, factory fresh or heavily worn, or back to original which is mapped to skin of plane.

the pack also includes 4.09/UP2.01 support file where previously the original model was 4.10/4.101 only.

there's also an update to our F8A Crusader (Mario's nice project)... available. and this one now sports AGM12 rockets. the plane is still in beta mode, but it's coming along nicely. the AGM's are also a work in progress and still under development by me and S-3... there's a new and improved version link already available in the Crusader DL posting, and we hope to have a finalized version ready soon (along with additional AGM and Air to Air types.) PS, the new third party aircraft skin is from a nice pack by Batbomb...and available in our Skin/paint scheme section.

just a Free Modding WIP update on a few things we've got 'in the works.'

per our Viet Project, we've started work on SAM missiles... our first 'in game' test one is the below, NIKE. we've got it in game and working, and it's working well, but still lacks a TON of testing and final refinements. we hope to have it ready for general download soon. btw the 3D is by DM over at AAS, java and import by me at Free Modding.

the Vietnam War SA-2 is done in 3D, but still awaiting skinning and import into game... but it's looking good and we're very excited about it. S3's done a marvelous job on it.

btw... we always seem to have more model makers/game workers than skinners... if there's any skinners about that would like to give us a hand, we could use the help. right now we're awaiting skins of several planes and weapons, in particular my new Enforcer update is awaiting a skin for it's new mini-gun pod 3D. so if you skin and want to help... give us a shout over there.

ton414 just finished and released an updated version of my Enforcer... a contra-rotating prop 'what-if' Navy version with tailhook and folding wings for naval/carrier duty!

he did a fine job with it, as Tiger did with the new naval/marine skins.

those are 'doctored' credits at that link... with a spin to make them "appear" different than they really are. even the download link is NOT "our" original DL link. so beware. we don't know what might have been changed from the original plane or work.

in fact, that link makes the entire download 'stolen.'

it's called 'spin doctoring'... the same as this fellow's post above is attempting.

what happened was one of the original FreeModding team workers pulled out before release then 'after' release tried to make it 'appear' as if we had used his work without permission when in fact we had his COMPLETE permission to use the work he did (along with the work WE did.) and we have ironclad proof of his permission. nuff said.

i do hope that the good moderators here will not allow the flames and nasty business from the hate threads over there spill into this nice place.

anyway, many thanks for your moderation. we have no interest in fighting, attacking, flamming, or putdowns/insults or any sort of harm or bad intent to anyone or any site.

other's may childishly (and sadly) delight in those things, but we're older, more mature guys that 'just want to mod' and 'teach modding' for and to the IL2 community. as long as our members act civil and mature, we turn no one away.

this is a P-40K Kittyhawk (one of my older mods) that i've updated for 4.10 and it has the corrected wings, field added bomb shackles and bombs, and other additions/improvements. if like me, you love P-40's... this K is a nice addition to have in your game.

the small red circles show where i've worked on the gun ports in 3D...removing the actual barrels leaving just the outer shrouds, turning the fighter-bomber into a 4 machinegun model.

I have just seen an unpleasant exchange regarding the posting of a link to the PA-48 Enforcer on SAS.

Regardless of what Beowolff will try to make people believe we have no problem with the release of this mod, nor the use of any of the work involved. As the person who conceived the original idea of the contra-rotating props and undertook the majority of the 3d work on both it and the original PA-48 Enforcer, I can confirm it was freely given and its use to develop new and interesting mods is to be encouraged. It should also be noted that this mod draws heavily on the individual expertise and published work of several other contributors. This mod has not been "stolen" as is claimed, however, we did feel it was necessary to correct some factual errors and false claims relating to the credits in the original posting at SAS and this we have now done. Unfortunately it also became necessary to post a new download link for SAS members as The Senior Administrator at FreeIL2Modding has removed the access rights to his site for those identified as members of SAS.

I hope this clarifies the situation.

i will 'not' be baited or drawn into answering the flame fest starting here. we've seen that route before and it gets no one, no where.

but if i must be hounded and attacked, then so be it. by all means go for it.

i had assumed that this was a neutral place where "everyone" was free to come and post good things about their work, mods, and sites with no worry of flames, slander, attack or ill will. and i still think that is so.

so i would ask the kind moderators of this site to (when they have time) please clean up this ugly mess so i can once again continue my updates in peace.

this project is perhaps the first jet powered seaplane in IL2 history...lol. built pretty well as an experiment work just to find out if it could be done, it handles remarkedly well both on sea and in air.

the two captured German jets are underpowered for it, but i left them like that as i figured 'if such an aircraft had been built'... it 'would' have been woefully underpowered at that early time.

still, performance is quite good though naturally slow.

it is availabe at the FM site.

first New Year's mod honors goes to Warbird over at Free Modding...

a nice rendition of the Harvard Mk.1

based off of my T6 Texan mod he's retro'd it back to it's beginnings and a nice job of it too. skin is by Rudi, and wonderful. a nice feature (from my T6) is the 'dual' sliding canopies for both pilots. the front pilot's goes back, the rear pilots slide forward...

check this nice Harvard out if you like the older planes. :grin:

Exactly how rare was this. How many were built or converted and which theatres were they active in? I had thought that they were all armed with MG's

not sure... may have been only a one-off or prototype. but there was a picture of one so at least 'one' had the cannon. ;) which would make it pretty rare.

if i remember right, this was probably for Export...the Finn's i think, but not one hundred percent positive.

the modder can likely tell you more about it.

new Nike and SA-2 SAM missile update over at Free Modding... now missiles are like Stationary Artillery or Objects, and placeable in the FMB just like any other Object. also many nice updates to code... even a 'warning' signal in the cockpit HUD if a SAM starts tracking you...etc. (this version is for 4.101 modded version of game.)

The AS-TBR ASW/Anti-Ship Sea Enforcement carrier or land based dual prop/jet turbine aircraft project: A what-if project supposedly from the 50's/60's that could still even be flying today as reserve or small nation type use. based 'loosely' on a combination of ideas... original USN TBF base, with ideas from the USN Guardian prototypes, British Navy Gannet types, and French Navy Alize types.

right, thanks for the correction but yeah i am aware of the difference so no real need to overpower me with infinite knowledge.... you see as it is we're working on both the Crusader "and" the Corsair and i was thinking of the one while typing the other. i guess that's never happened to some of you guys, but as a sixty plus year old guy it happens to me a lot these days. :(

also, since the prostate cancer surgery, i pee my pants quite frequently. distressing to say the least and a whole lot worse than saying one thing while meaning another.

it would be embarrasing to admit that... except... that i know that 'sooner' or 'later'... all you guys will be in the same boat as me. it's just a matter of ...time.

we've only been waiting for it...what...ten years or something? but hey, now it's here!

courtesy of 1C (stock Spit) and the Free Modding team...I did the importing, java, FM, some small 3D, etc...Hawkman did the superb and authentic Spit floats/tailplane, Ton did the new 3D prop/spinner, Texx the new prototype plane skin, Barnsey the new, 'Better Pilots mod' and with some help from CY6 ...practically everybody on the team pitched in.

it's a re-work of my old (made for Darko) I-153S floatplane, now reworked for both 4.09 'and' 4.10 modded games. if you by any chance still have the ancient version (which is unlikely as it was made SOOO LONG AGO, then remove it as this newer version is much better and more stable in the water take-off.)

this can be gotten by both members (or course) and non-members, as it's listed in our Pilot's Den section which is free for all to enter and see.

we appreciate our members...and the overall community...including you great guys here at 1C, and just wanted to make this handy little mod available to everyone.

As a companion to the original SB2C we would like to present the the SB2C-4 Late.

This model being a later type is fitted with perforated dive brakes, a paddle type prop, and spinner, extended tail hook ,YAGG1 array, also included are new load outs from CW consisting of depth charges and an aps radar pod from Alexempr skinned by OC tiger and new class files from Alexempr and CW which enable the rear canopy and turtle deck to open and close when an enemy is near the lod values have been changed to address the plane disappearing at a reasonable distance the undead rear gunner Laughing issue has also been solved

there are also some new details added to the plane spend some time and see if you can spot them.

*note for the skinners there are templates in the skin folder for the new model the only change is I have mapped the prop spinner to the skin so make it easy to colour code your prop spinner with the plane skin

if changing an existing skin a little copy and paste in the right spot fixes the spinner up nicely *

So something new to play with on Christmas day

Lost a few on takeoff though since it overheats before I can say bollocks with a Norwegian accent.
All I need now is a Baltic Sea map for fending off Soviet bombers getting too close.
(running the Congo campaign is great though)

I am especially enjoying the Barnesy12 Better Pilots Redux Mod for the ETO and Pacific Pilots that I downloaded recently.

Hope it's ok, I repainted some personal tweaks to the outfit after I installed it in the game. The wrinkles in the leather jacket sleeves seem to add a bit of value to this wonderful Mod. Here is a screenshot of the repainted ETO Pilot:
