I thought i read that the new engine for BoB would work for a combined arms online game if they wanted it to, that would probably kill wwii online. i know i would pay you many times over for something like this.
I could be totally mistaken and be thinking about some other game. I hope i'm not though.

You are quite right, Oleg did mention in one of the first interviews that the possibility to use the engine to simulate other types of war was very possible, ie Naval and ground forces.
He also stressed that that would be a third party endevour if my memory serves me.

One asked Oleg if there is Infantry in BoB and he answer no because they do a flight sim. So I wont expect it.

It has been mentioned a couple of times that users may not just fly an airplane, but also control other objects. See one of Oleg's latest replies:
------------------------
Question:
Secondly, will Storm of War allow moving objects (tanks and ships) during online play? This cannot be done in online play with Il2.
Oleg:
It is done in Il-2 in all online modes except Doghfight mode. In BoB will be special Doghfight mode (one of dogfight modes), when some of objects also will be moveable and even controllable by user.
------------------------
This doesn't mean SOW BoB will include a FPS, but at least the game engine will be open for this sort of thing... Let's speculate what "objects" besides aircraft we get to control:
Flak guns? Tanks?

IMO Flak is the only thing in this category which might be acceptable, but given Maddox Games's past performances I'd rather see them spend those ressources on key features for offliners (like a decent and immersive campaign and a GUI that is worth its name).

If a third party would make something like a tactical command game or something like that which is compatible with SOW for online play, that'd be very cool I think. You'd be able to have very immersive online games where the commanders could make "wishes" for which targets us flyboys should attack and protect...
But I don't think an FPS would be possible to integrate with SOW, the graphical focus of a sim engine and FPS engine are too different I'd believe. But I'm not a game developer so I would'nt know...
I agree though that Oleg and his team should focus on the best ever ww2 flight sim, but if a third party would take on such a project it'd be sweetpants I say!! :D

Yes Oleg said it would be possible to do a combined arms sim out of the SOW engine, meaning first person control of tanks and ships, as well as aircraft. That being said... If he can give first person control of aircraft, tanks, and ships there would be no problem giving people hand held weapons. The graphics will already be there, but the problem is getting a computer to handle all these features on such a grand scale.
The decision to go in that direction is so far down the road, to many things can happen, to even contemplate it.

Such a combine arm sims would be a god sent (for lack of a better term (i'm French)). I would gladly pay 20-30$ per month for such a game. Also a great feature for 1C is that piracy would not be an issue (or to a lesser extent).
This would open up this great sim to a lot of new poeple. Such a influx of player would mean more $$$ for 1C, which in turn would mean a bigger development budget (and return on investment).
This give us a lot to dream about....

I agree with you a game like that with 1c's talent would be a dream, however it is true as other have said that it will (would) be a long way away but by then i'm sure the common PC could handle it
