Blackburn Skua and Blackburn Roc would be nice. But we would need at least the Aircraft Carrier HMS Eagle for it.

For the axis side, the currently AI He-115 flying boat and maybe the other Heinkell floatplane that we once saw in the development update screenshots (the biplane one that was used to rescue downed pilots), or the Do-17 for something with even more relevance. The rest is easily covered by adding different variants of the existing types.

For the allied side, adding photo-recon capability to the Blenheim (the camera is already part of the 3d model, switch to the gunner position, press your "open canopy" key, go to external view and you'll see it looking inside the fuselage's hatch opening) and opening up gameplay to secondary and support roles like photo-recon, air-sea rescue and coastal command operations. A Wellington would rock but it might be too complex, but the smaller Hampden would also be great to have.

Now that's a lot mind you, so if i had to choose only one what would it be? Well, after reading an article in a quarterly aviation publication that my father is subscribed to i think i have it narrowed down. I think a superb addition would be the Swordfish.

It flew everywhere for the entire war, from bombing advancing German columns in Dunkirk (they even tried to engage LW bombers there) to crippling the Bismarck, from operations against convoys and Italian-held ports in Albania flying from mountain airfields in Greece to participating in the disastrous attacks on the German ships during the channel dash, from North Africa and the Med (raids on Taranto in Italy and Bomba bay in Libya) to the Pacific, all the way to the battle of the Atlantic and hunting U-boats with radar and rockets until the final days of the war while operating from short-deck escort carriers and merchant ships with a flat deck, using rockets for assisted take-off from those short, sleet and ice covered decks.

It's a fun little plane that's easy to get into due to its simple nature (throttle and mixture only, fixed pitch prop), can carry a widely diverse payload (torpedoes, bombs, flares, rockets, radar), has a historical relevance to the map we have and a huge one through the course of the war overall, plus it would be able to see use in future expansions all the way to war's end with slight 3D remodeling and changes (a Mk.II is simply a Mk.I that can carry rockets and has a different engine, while a Mk.III is simply a Mk.II that can't carry a torpedo because it has the radar fairing slung between the wheels).

In other words, it makes sense for us to have it and it's a type that can maximize the gains from the developer's time working on it by being present in so many theaters.

If I recall correctly at the time of the battle the RAF had a coue of squadrons of Curtiss tomahawks, these were originally destined for France but with their fall were diverted to the UK. Should make a great middle fighter with performance between the hurri and spit at low to medium altitudes. Or some froggy types so that we can make our own BoF missions.

I read somewhere that in an interview the developers even liked 'crap' planes for fun like the stuka and that italian fighter that everyone always knocked.. I cant see why it shouldnt be put in for variety.. for me more than anything as a plane to add to missions that I could make, would be fun for a turkey shoot:-D

For me I'd love to see more Italian planes for the blue side, if talking about hypothetical future scenarios for the med/north africa desert campaigns I'd love to see the Breda Ba.65, there's a lovely model for FS9, with a gorgeous virtual cockpit, on the Sim Out House website that can be ported over to FSX. I would also love to the se Caproni Ca.310, Savoia-Marchetti SM.79 and the CANT Z.1007. For the above scenario these planes are esential.

This is really hard.

Personally I hate crap a/c (read: pre 1942), and I love carrier missions (from the time when they replaced the Wildcat).

To add to the period we could use a couple of French aircrafts (Dewoitine D. 520 (only 50 served during the battle of France) & Morane) and a map based on current Channel map to the north and to the east so we can simulate the battle of France. Most of the aircrafts are allready there.

If we want to go forward we should think about the British strikes into the occupied France: We should get the Whirlwind Mk. I (with the notoriously unreliable perigrine engines), the Spitfire Mk. IIb, Vb, Beaufighter Mk. Ic and Fw190A-1 and A-2 and the Bf109F-2, F-2B, F-4, F-4B.

Whirlwind Mk. I
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6idJ3tF00Og

If we are going East we need the Rata (I-16), I-153, MIG-3.

But irt would be nice if reliability issues on the aircrafts was modelled as well.

Maybe we should as for a "Reliability issue off" in the Realisme settings

Well, for Cliffs, a flyable Wellington and at least an AI Ju52. Especially the 52 is a must have for the entire duration of the war. I'd not complain about a Storch, either.

Also, for the map we have, a Dewoitine D.520, a Morane Saulnier MS.406 and a Breguet 690 would be awesome to get a bit of the Battle for France going. As a matter of fact, I'd pay quite a bit of money for a prequel to BoB to finally have a go at this campaign, with maybe even a Fokker D.XXI and a G.I thrown in

I would like to see an aircraft modelling toolkit so that 3rd parties can create aircraft but have the game engine set up so that they are approved officially and can be used in game.
Then they could be sold/licenced like the Rise of Flight model. This would be a great way to expand the sim flyables at minimal cost but higher revenue for the developers. As in Rise of Flight if you do not have the licence then you do not fly them.

I'd buy the lot. :D

If the BoB ran into Spring of 1941 then yes, but it didn't. I don't think you'd be keen on those early 190A-0/1/2 models though - lots of early problems. Better off with the 109F where the early ones had the weak tail which would break under strain ;)

The first FW-190 appeared on the western front in the summer of 1941, so long after the BoB was finished, at that time it was the RAF whos was "leaning" into France.

But sure later on I'd like to see the Channel front 1941-'42 planeset in game.

We know that new flyables are a no-go for now, at least until the sequel is finished or the SDK is released to the community, but it doesn't harm to get the ball rolling with ideas.

I agree that blue has quite a few flyables and i would too like to see additions for the red side first.

I really like floatplanes but to have proper missions for them we would first need the SDK/documentation (for scripting/triggers).

The Beaufighter would be nice, if the radar could be modeled and we learn how to use the German radio devices for night-bombing (otherwise it wouldn't have a role).

Sadly, the Wellington is probably a bit too complex for now.

That leaves us with the Swordfish and Hampden. I always liked the Hampden and it would give RAF another bomb carrier, but its use is centered around a limited timeframe. It's still a good choice but i don't know how complicated it would be to make it.

The Swordfish on the other hand is much simpler and saw use throughout the war and in various theaters, it will be useful for future add-ons as well even if only the Mk.I is modeled. I think the last torpedo action undertaken by them was against the German warships taking part in the Channel dash in 1942. The mission was a disaster and it was decided to give them a different role, so they started loading them on escort carriers and converted merchants with a flight deck to protect convoys, but that was a bit later in the war and some of the equipment they used in later marks is out of the scope of BoB (air to surface rockets, anti-ship radar and rocket assisted take off equipment).

I think all are good choices and i'd love to see some night fighting (Beaufighter) or night bombing (Wellington/Hampden), but if i want to be objective i'll have to admit the Swordfish probably has the best "man hours to make / general gameplay application" ratio.

S!

Walrus and He115..pilot rescuing while battle rages overhead :D Avro Anson would be interesting too as well as Gladiator. The list would be huge..And not to stop it there..Battle Of France..quite a few new ones there!

He 115 was not used as SAR plane but for strategic naval recon and torpedo attacks. The only fitting SAR planes I can think of were the He 59 and later Do 24 and similar types.

The Hurricane IIB would be a nice addition. Only small to minor changes would be required on the cockpit model, exterior model, flight model and damage model of the existing Hurricane I (Rotol).
Hurricanes were used in the Battle of Moscow and it would allow to "lean" into 1941 on the Channel Front with the Spitfire II and the then available Bf 109 F.

I'd be happy with these 4 aircraft to be flyable:

Boulton Paul Defiant and its rear turret
Do-17z as well as its earlier variant which took part in the BOB as a recon/raider
Fw-200 Condor, the germans Sunderland, which was in BOB attacking shipping

A flyable Vickers Wellington, with a detailed cockpit, detailed gunnery/ navigator positions, two Bristol Hercules engines on the wings and my dream would be fullfilled,mmmm:smile:...................but it ain't gonna happen!

The devs have moved on to the Battle of Moscow and have said no more additional aircraft will be made for COD in so many words.

So we're going to be flying aircraft like the IL-16 which IMO looks as if it was made to go crop spraying or better, would suit sitting a top a birthday cake!!........God help us:rolleyes:

if not asked for before, how about a Beaufort Bomber,

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/4/4d/Bristol_Beauforts_217_Squadron_in_flight.jpg

Used in multiple theatres, throughout the war by the Coastal Command, Fleet Air Arm and the RAAF.
