I've never seen anything exactly like this and wonder if it could be developed.

I'd like to see an online coop missions only server.

Historical type missions that have slots for bombers and escorts with opposing scramble/intercept missions.

The slots are initially filled by AI but each joining human player replaces one AI. The missions automatically launch at say every 30 minutes.

A player logs in and can join the next mission and wait for launch time or can join the current mission in progress if there are AI slots still open. They would just spawn in and replace the AI plane wherever it is, even in flight.

This would give players a chance to fly in large missions whenever they wanted to. I know folks prefer to play against other humans but since the AI could be replaced by humans at anytime you would never know what you were going to run into.

You would log in, choose a side, Allied for example and then you would get a screen like this.

good idea choose AI during mission in course is fantastic.
ACTUALY you choose AI only when start one coop mission but not during the mission in course.
Choose AI but is limited number of AI.
30 minutes for a loong coop mission is not good.
if i want recostruction the real mission EXAMPLE:RAID TO TARANTO

ATTACK
19:55 From the base was on alert, they were actually recorded enemy aircraft in flight, and between 22:25 and 22:50 the system of detection of the base of Taranto pointed approaching aircraft, and the alarm was given. At 22.50 to the batteries of Capo San Vito began the barrage was launched at 23.00 and the first Bengal by the British, while four British bombers began to drop their bombs in the Mar Piccolo. The anti-aircraft fire directed way in that direction, while the torpedo bombers, silently (they had turned off the engines of 1,330 meters altitude) threw themselves on the big ships at anchor in the great sea, dropping their weapons from a distance of between 350 and 1,000 meters and to a share of only 9 feet.

The first wave lasted about thirty minutes. During this attack, the Cavour at 23:14 for the first time was hit by a torpedo, and struck with its anti-aircraft weapons that the aircraft had dropped. Shortly after a torpedo struck the battleship Littorio in the bow on the left, followed shortly by another weapon that struck in the stern. Was also launched a torpedo against the Vittorio Veneto, but it exploded on contact with the seabed.

The Littorio had started by bow, while Cavour was leaving tons of water.

The first wave was over.

The second wave attacked for about thirty minutes, from 24.0 to 0.30. Around 24.00 Duilio was shaken by an explosion near the bow, and also at 00.01 Littorio was centered, for the third time, by a gun. Instead, we went again to the Vittorio Veneto, the torpedo that exploded was destined once again to the bottom.

MISSION START AT 19:55 --------- AND FINISH TO ----- 0.30 TOTAL TIME
5H and 35minutes.

another question is the bombers.
yes the bombers have 3 or four sloots to choose during a normal coop the people chose a bomber but only one not 4 or 3 pilots.
i think the your server obligate choose bomber whit min of 2 pilots and max 4 pilots.

Well, it could be longer than 30 minutes, but the idea would be to condense a mission down to mostly the action, and remove the tedium.

I'm not too familiar with the game, I've seen airstarts but don't know if there are warps that could cut off some travel time.

The ideal would be to warp closer to target shortly after take off and then warp closer to home base after egress.

The purpose of starting with AI slots is so that the missions would always run even when both sides aren't full of human players, but having them be replaced by humans as they join in. If all the AI get replaced, so much the better.

If only some get replaced, then the AI are just supplemental and you have a mix of human and AI and you never know what you will be up against.

I figure the fighter slots would go faster, leaving AI to pilot bombers, which is probably more palatable to players than AI fighters.

Having the ability to replace an AI at the start of the mission and also at any time during a mission in progress is just to make it so players don't have to wait around long for a new mission and also to maximize the opportunity for human players to replace the AI.

In other games I've flown, a bomber pilot can switch between pilot, gunner and bombardier positions and accomplish the task by themselves, but other players can join as gunners.

Not sure how that works in IL2.

I don't know if it's possible in IL2, but it is in CoD and specific conditions can be set with c# scripts.

For example, you could have an online registration form for players parsing data to the game server, then upon joining each player would be assigned the team (axis or allies), aircraft or even position within a bomber that he chose on the registration form.

There was a coop server almost exactly as described above a few years ago on HL. I don't think it's around anymore and I don't remember the developers name.

EDIT: I found a link to the developer ---> http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/23110283/m/6221000975?r=6891032975#6891032975

Yep, that's pretty darn close.

Thanks for the info.
