Hi all - I am new here, but this looks like the ultimate place for IL-2 expertise!
I have reinstalled IL-2 1946 after a long pause. Since the last time, I have acquired a Saitek X52 Pro HOTAS stick. Everything works fine, except that the stick is reversed in Pitch. Maybe I am too dumb, but I can't figure out how to reverse it. This problem does not exist in 6 other flight games, because the stick either works right, or the games have provision for reversal.
Have I overlooked something, or is my IL-2 doomed?

Try to remap it from the options and see how it goes, the game will wait for an input that it recognizes, you move the stick and it captures the axis ID.
If you end up with a reversed stick again, remap it again but this time move it to the other end of pitch axis: if moving it up during the mapping phase gave you a reversed axis, try moving it down the second time.

Hi check the 2 threads on this page http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/23110283/m/3181081438. Lots of stuff in there. :)

+1
Yeah johnost, whichever way the stick is moving when you set the HOTAS axis sets that up and Murphy has a hand in it.

Thanks to all of you, but now I have another problem that must be solved first. I installed 1946 from the disk as v. 4.07m. I then installed update 4.08m with no problems. After posting this thread I installed 4.10m, and now only the opening screen comes up for a second, after which the game quits.
I run W7 64-bit, the game is installed directly on C drive, and compatibility is set at XP SP2 (other settings make no difference). Is there a 4.09 update that I am missing?
CPU I7-960 OC @ 3.84Ghz, Asetek Water Cooler

Apevia 800W PS, Win 7 64-bit

Yup, that's it ;-)
The updates need to be installed in sequence: 4.07m->4.08m->4.09m->4.10m

And then 4.101.
I strongly recommend that with each successful stage you copy the whole IL-2 folder to a backup folder. If the next stage fails for any reason then just copy the backup back over the fail, find out what went wrong and try again. Once you get to 4.101, make an archive copy of that folder on HD or USB stick. A 16G stick can be gotten for under $20 and will hold IL-2 folder plus loads of extras.

Thanks to all of your advice, I now have IL-2 1946 running fine at version 4.10.1, and after much clicking and stick exercises, the stick now responds properly.
Only one remaining problem - when exiting the game my monitor goes black, and there is no way I can do anything other than throw the power switch. Seems like the graphics shuts down, as the computer is still running, but I have lost all control. I have changed the screen resolution to 1920x1200, which works fine, but may have something to do with it. Anybody have similar experience?

Oce the game exits and the moniter stays black, have you tried hitting "Ctrl+Alt+Del" at the same time?
It may be the case that the program has not closed properly and by hitting the above keys together you can bring up task manager.
If you get the small window showing the option of "Task manager" click on it and see if you can find the "il2fb.exe" process running. If you can, select it, then click "End Process". That may work?
Also it may be worth chicking you have the latest Drivers for your Graphics and Sound cards?
Just checking you've tried these options?
Cheers, MP

Yes - I tried everything, but with a black screen and no mouse or keyboard response there isn't much you can do. It seemed like the graphics signal from the graphics card went missing.
BUT - good news - I cleaned out the Registry with CCleaner, and it has not happened since. Thanks to you all for your help. I am enjoying IL-2 again, its relative simplicity, compared to the latest jet and helo combat games, is a nice change of pace.
