View Full Version : Anyone Know How to Customise the HUD?

Hi there,

I would like to modify the HUD, especially remove the Power display so the pilot has to interpret the instruments.

I found some info on Mission4Today but it seems to be out of date. Any ideas?

Are you modded?

I don't think it can be done in the stock 46.. but if you are modded with HSFX go to: C:\Program Files \Ubisoft\46 HSFX\Files\i18n\hud_log_ru

The file will look something like this, but this is my modded file, the stock file has the stock messages:

Note that the line on the left tells you what the message is .. the message that will appear on the screen will be on your right.

Thanks for the reply Bearcat. So you're still flying - good stuff.

I'm running UP3.0 RC4 and there is an i8n folder in the game root with a file hud_msg.properties with hud messages like:

Where_are_you Where are you?
Keep_of_leader_s_course Stay on leader's course!
Stay_on_leader_s_course Stay on leader's course!
Keep_the_course Stay on course!
Stay_on_course Stay on course!

But I'd really to disable the 'Power: 78%' messages.

Any thoughts?

Have a look at conf.ini, under Game, see NoHud=0 and set to 1, that should work. You could turn on NoSubtitles as well to get a clean screen although one's German, etc., has to improve quickly if you want to know what's happening.
Best thing that could happen for me in game would be the introduction of call signs for the player which would allow vectoring by ground control, possible now I think, but I'm never sure if they're talking to me or someone else as it stands.
Much appreciate your campaigns, although it did take me six months to work out I needed to toggle chocks in missions 5 to 9 (I think) in your Afrika campaign, to be able to take off. Thanks for that! What nutcase would do such a thing I asked myself?
P.S. Note for all mission builders, no guided tours of flak hotspots at cruising speeds, thank you!

The problem with turning off the HUD logs in the conf file is that it also makes it impossible to know how you're setting the bombsight, torpedo computer, etc. And when you're using a keyboard for mixture/prop-pitch/radiator you want that information to appear as well. It would be nice to have them be user-customizable.

Exactly. It apparently IS customizable. See this thread:

Oh yeah... I'll be flying this sim till the power goes or when CoD expands.. whichever comes first.. ;)

Note the bolded lines.. any part of this can be removed by simply deleting the text from the right side. I deleted the Power: {0}% segment.. and the power numbers did not show up.. I had to look at the gauges.. Same with the Prop Pitch.. I putg it back to the way it was for now but I will edit the whole file further as I said above.. when I get around to it.. I hope in the future the radiator setting is on there too so I can delete that as well.. I dont think you can edit this in UP because they locked up a lot more of the features in 3.0 than were locked up in 2.01..

This is IMO a very nice option to have.. I hope that in the next patch the bolded lines for the prop pitch & power are added to the radiator as well since it too is now on a slider.

@Max: That file is exactly where you said, but it doesn't provide Power, Prop Pitch etc messages.

Interesting. My sentiments 100%. After having a fiddle with CoD, I quickly realised that it needs a year or more to mature - and I can hold off upgrading the computer. :-) + Modded IL2 now has sooooo much to offer. Just amazing; I'm back and luv'n it.

Unmodified or modified IL-2:1946, look for il8n\hud_msg.properties file.

The file you showed is for the AI text that flashes on the screen which is different from the Hudlog..

I wonder what happens if you take edited hud_log files and copy them into an unmodded copy of IL-2? Probably nothing interesting.

There is a mod I found in Fusion Pack that allows you to change, delete HUD messages etc. I am not sure who the original author was.

Quote from readme file;
"WHAT IT DOES:

The basic idea is that you don't need all those on-screen messages telling you that you have opened the throttle or that your engine is out of fuel.

On the other hand though, disabling all those messages may be a bad idea because of our imperfect in-game cockpits, that summed to the lack of peripheral vision and the absence of 'seat-of-the-pants' sensorial input, make *some* on-screen messages necessary.

(for the record, disabling hud log messages is done in conf.ini, [game] section: set NoHudLog=1)"
