I just wanted to clear up a few misconceptions about the Ubi forum (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/ubb.x?a=frm&s=400102&f=23110283)...

I have only been registered there about 7 months or so but in my experience the vast majority of regular users there are mature, friendly & helpful devotees of Oleg's wonderful sim.

Yes, i am aware of the past history of the Ubi forum but to me that is like comparing Nazi Germany to modern-day Germany - most of the asshats have either grown-up, moved on or had the shit kicked out of them in their home towns hehe.

And yes while there are still a lot of off-topic threads there, people who have had bad experiences there in the past should let bygones be bygones and newbies here should not be prejudiced by others' opinions of the "community that ousted Oleg" blah, blah. They are, most of them, good guys!

We are, all of us (generally) mature - regardless of age - WWII, aviation and IL2 buffs so let's not let the big kids who were never cuddled enough spoil our party!

/group hug

(and RIP to all the pilots/aircrew who never came back to enjoy the petty squabbles of our cyber-world)

A Happy & Peaceful Xmas!!!

The all grew up during your 7 months? Oh isn’t that a miracle!

You wait another six years and I will ask you again, but honestly this is, in my opinion, not the place to debate other forums. You open a thread about this over there and I will keenly participate.

Ready for this Targ?

Thank you Scwarz.. I agree with you for the most part. There will always be folks who just carry their negativity with them wherever they go.. but I agree with you... with a few exceptions UBI is on of the most helpful places I have ever seen.

Schwarz.13,
Several months ago there was a fall out/differance of opinion/ clash of ego's, whatever you wish to call it between some contributors and some mods, resulting in (in my opinion) some very heavy handed actions by some of the mods.
After this a large group of people, (mainly skinners) left, there was a lot of bad feeling and animosity that is only just 'thinning' out.

But, as already said, the majority of 'Zoo' users are helpful and polite (there will always be those who think they are above or better) and it appears to be going through a resurgance of late (just wish there were some 4.09 updates)

Perhaps as we have an ex-UBI mod here on the forum...who would be good enough to tell us whether the decision to ban posts refering to the Sound Mod was made by someone from UBI or whether it was agreed amongst the forum moderators?

As apparently ubi have not been bothered with the il2 forum for some time, then I would hazard a guess that Targ took it upon himself to ban discussion.
The same with the no cd fiasco,it was freely available from ubi,yet any mention of it on the forum brought an instant ban.

I'd guess so too...thats why I am asking :)

Sooo....... is that a "No I dare not do that!"?

Seriously, you are reading too much in to one users post (mine) as we are no community or gang here, in my humble opinion, only a handful of Il2 aficionados and user that each and every one only speaks for him- or herself. Your opinion is as valued as mine and as long as we observe the rules we are free to express it .That’s the way I see it and that’s the way I hope it will remain!

Edit Your post over at UBI makes me wonder how honest your post here is. “UBI people”! What are we? 1C people? Thanks for confirming my prejudices and further dividing this small congregation!

Viking, i gotta question... do you still believe that this is Euro-forum? :D It seems that you are so fascinated with that idea, i am really amused by that ;) You seem to invite people from so-called zoo to Euro forum and link leads them here. What`s up? Something i am missing? :D

You are reading far to much into this! All I want and say is “

Please uppdate the links in

GREAT IL-2 WEBSITES
FAN SITES (NEWS & FILES)

to include http://forum.1cpublishing.eu/"

I think it is appropriate that a link to this site is in there. Don’t you? Who am I to invite people? Euro site? I don’t know but it’s got a .eu and we will see what will do for the future. And yes I am very happy to see interest, expansion and development in this simulation as you know a am very dedicated to it,a dedication often mistaken as anger.

Yes, that's right. The forum users at Ubi are what i have deemed to label 'Ubi People' and the forum users here are obviously '1C People'. How very perceptive of you to see my cunning ploy to segregate the two forums and the people who frequent them...

let's not let the big kids who were never cuddled enough spoil our party!

I find this press release interesting

http://www.redorchestragame.com/forum/showthread.php?t=24423

I know its for RO,but if Oleg decides to publish SoW himself then the ubi forum will quickly become a dead duck.

I tend to agree that the Ubi forum is a good place. If you want good information and you want it FAST, that is the place to go. There are many good and knowledgeable people there who are eager to help out. I do not know of any other forum that is as good as that one. Many a time there were questions that I had and in no time (within minutes) I had the answer I was looking for. The forum is very active. I have seen many other forums that, in comparison, are not nearly the same caliber as that one, despite some of the shannanigans that go on there. There is nothing wrong with a little horseplay...in moderation (accent on mod)

Schwarz.13,

With respect, kristorf, I would say it's a minority of friendly and helpful posters at the 'zoo.' But they are a powerful minority and I hope they continue to endure the egomaniacs who really run the place.

The [free] patch is out and the ungrateful whining has already begun.

Some of the posts in this thread are exactly the kind of posts that earned the zoo its name.

That would be '07, and not much of a massacre. There were very few bans. Mostly short vacations, but the implementation was very...er...marshal and didn't accomplish what it was hoped to accomplish.

Many people (and organizations) continue to forget that it was the community-at-large that really made IL2 and FB what they bacame.

Server hosts (of which should probably get the biggest nod), third party code writers (FBDaemon anybody?), movie-makers and, of course, skinners. These are the people that did the most for bringing along this wonderful sim.

Oleg and 1:C authored the code and spent literally thousands of hours putting it together, but do we remember how frequently Oleg used to come to the community in the early days and exchange dialogue? I do... and really, only good things came of it up to a point.

As a long-time lurker, reader and contributor to this community, I find it somewhat sad to have witnessed some of the depths many felt it necessary to descend to over the last few months. I think that, more than anything else, has done more to bring the end of the IL2 saga closer to an end.

well - I think anytime you get a large number of people together, for any reason, you see wide differences of oppinion.

for my part - I don't see why it is necessary to put down the UBI forum or its moderators to the degree I see here...

the ability to discuss some of these differences vs. the carefull avoidance of certain topics that simply do no one any good to discuss is the tightrope that every moderator must walk - and those guys to their credit tried to let some conversations play out a bit.

thats what made the place both especially interesting and at times somewhat 'confrontational' maybe?... but the people who took unfair advantage of the general discussion theme were always redressed at some point.

that being said - I am pleased that this board appears to be slightly more tightly monitored - but I hope the core community will always be able to recognise one another and continue to discuss general topics in one forum or another...

I think Evgeny is a breath of fresh air: imperturbable, impartial, rational, good-natured, and ruthless. The perfect moderator. I am amused to see the worst moderator on the Ubi IL-2 forum complaining about "negativity" on the Ubi forum when his witlessness constantly causes umbrage and consternation, and is instrumental in creating the chaotic atmosphere on that benighted forum. Well done, Evgeny, keep up the splendid work. May this excellent forum flourish.

By the way, talking about the UBIZoo, could Bearcat kindly lift the apparent 48 billion years ban on me there, instead of the 48 hours that it was supposed to be some months ago ;)?
Evgeny took the pretty cool approach to show his face in his avatar, which may generally be a bad idea for forumers, but helps when you are a mod ;).

Did I ban you.... ? If I did and I forgot I apologize.. but I don't remember banning you... and I don't see a reference to it anywhere.. but I am sorry for the apparent 25 day ban...

Hehe, no problem :). You had banned me for 48 hours for causing a stir by posting a slightly political tongue-in-cheek joke :D. Strangely the ban was never lifted.

A Happy & Peaceful Xmas!!!What's wrong with a few off-topics threads as long as people enjoy them and they stay civil? No, they sould not allow a topic on porn or something that off topic but an occasional off topic thread is not a big deal. And most user agreements do not actually say you can't post off-topic. Try reading them.

And the mods are most of the problem there, not contributors. For instance Bearcat, who has even posted in this thread, is a mod over there and started a thread about Battlestar Gallactica ( for cryin out loud ) right after a ton of contribs got off-topic threads locked for no real reason. At Ubi, do as they mods say, not as they do. For the love of....................
