Have you ever had a game on single player and felt the plight of your pilot?
I randomly thought i'd start this thread as i've had this experience just now :(

Im rather bored, so set up a training mission, just to see how tough those JU87's are to shoot down. I selected the following

Dover
Day
Flak friendly
Enemy JU87 X 5
Limited fuel/ammo

I engaged the JU87 in my Hurricane over the port of Dover and downed 3 quite quickly, stupidly though i got into a silly position and a low speed on the 4th, I took him down but at cost to myself. My engine was hit,i was trailing black smoke and also from the white "smoke" trailing from my Hurricane i could determine that my fuel line was also hit. I knew i didnt have it in me or the ammo to go after the fifth and last JU87.

Knowing my Hurricane was in dire trouble and my engine was black and my visibility from the cockpit was extremely poor due to oil over the windscreen etc i tried to make for Manston.

I followed the coast up from Dover, while noticing that i was gradually loosing hieght and slowly loosing speed.

I fought with the stick for as long as i could trying to get my pilot back to that airfield and land the Hurricane. It felt like an ageand ultimately proved to be futile.

As i slowly came within the coast opposite Manston, the engine spluttered and coughed for a last time....

I wasnt going to make the airfield.

I had no height and so bailing out wasnt an option, and speed was practically gone. I instinctivally lowered the landing gear and tried to get the nearest field, but unfortunately the plane gave up and stalled before the gear lowered and with lack of height to recover it hit the earth and turned into an inferno killing the pilot who tired frantically to rescue the stricken Hurricane and get it home.

RIP brave pilot :( you gave it your best shot.

Has anyone else had these kinds of moments where you forget everything around you and your so immersed in the game and the life of the pilot/crew flying your plane?

Or just me? haha

I really happened. But on-line. Flight at the water, low altitude, with my Spitfire, when a burst from an enemy blocks my elevator. For a moment I felt the anguish of a pilot in 1940, when flying low, you see that you can only wait for the fatal crash.

Yup sure I know what you mean Mr FOZ..............

Im not a good Sim player but I practice off line a bit. I live in Kent and the map and its towns are common site's to me. My fav setup is a Hurricane V Me109E........June 1940

One night a while back......I set up the training with Galland in his 109E and me as Ginger Lacey.....I see him coming.....we turn into each other....he's turning tighter than me and rolling into my six....palm's are sweating.....for a few min's I feel vunerable....like it's me and my life....cannon shell's strike my wings.....I panic........please get me out of his sight's....then we roll into scissor passes........as he turn's into me, from my cockpit........ his yellow nose turns across mine.....in my windshield he is larger than life.....I can see the rivet's on his canopy......I pull the trigger and he explode's right in front of me.....I watch him spiral down....Images of the flames around his cockpit and Galland desperate to get out......he never make's it....he smashes into the ground and I pull up out of the trance like dive......the sky is clear.....I turn over my shoulder and see the the black plume of smoke and cruel flames......:(

Brave men indeed......I got my heart racing and it's just a game......

Now wonder how it was in real life.....1940.
