I have rejoined the dark side. News are in of Hurricanes mixing it up with Bf-110s over the Channel, so of course I join the fray in my Bf-109. - It is going to be a bloody day...
As with my other videos, this one is a totally unedited capture of my actual mission, pure WYSIWYG...
I am thinking about doing a Stuka attack video next, because I haven't tried that bird at all yet (haven't tried the He-111 and Ju-88 either!). If anybody could whip up a good shipping attack mission in the FMB I'd be very happy to try it. I'm asking because I don't know how to set up a diving attack and I imagine it could be complicated...
Anyway, enjoy. Comments always very welcome!

LOL...those .303 pea shooters sure frustrate.
Now, if you'd been in a 109 the 110s would have long been dispatched.

LOL...those .303 pea shooters sure frustrate.
Yeah, well, they did chop down a couple of 110's at the end... - I personally find that it makes a huge difference to be shooting at the proper convergence distance with the .303's.
And, well, at least I actually hit the target with them, if only scratching the paint job. My 60 rounds of cannon ammo in the 109's usually sneak right past their targets! - The cannons are truly a weapon for Experten, whereas the eight .303's are for the rest of us humdrum wannabe's...

Freycinet,
for more immersion a few things that could be better, imho.
First thing, when starting the 109 you use the "Handpumpe" -> This pump is only for emergency extraction of the landing-gear, the manual fuel injection isn`t modeled.
Second thing, for warm up you only open the water cooler to about 50 %, the oil cooler stays closed until 40°C are reached, then open to about 40%.
Third thing, after take off reduce the ata to about 1,2 to preserve the engine, adjust rpm to 2450 for climbing.
fourth thing, when reaching the wanted altitude go to 2250 rpm for fast cruise.
fifth thing, when seeing contacts go immediately to 2450 rpm and 1,32 ata, don't wait for the enemy to be close and you are not ready.
The movie as it is is just fine, that would be only small improvements as i see it.
cheers

robtek, thanks a million for all the advice! - I am a true amateur when it comes to CEM so this is all very helpful. I didn't know how to deal with ata at all! Is it the same as boost on the Brit planes? OK, the handpump is just for emergencies? Should I have used it later, when the gear didn't come down?

Hi Freycinet,
Always a pleasure to watch your videos. I don't have the game since my computer would not run it, but what I see certainly looks very inviting. I hope you don't mind some observations/questions though?
It seems to me that the looking around/zooming is not as fluid and smooth as one would expect in real life. I don't know if that has something to do with your TrackIR setup or if that's just the way the game is. In Wings of Prey this seems much smoother, although I don't use TrackIR for that but an analog stick. The other thing is that the sudden switch to a close up zoom view (for shooting) and to flyby view, which for me kill the otherwise excellent immersion.
It would be great to see a video purely from the pilot's view from start to end, without any switch zooming or flyby views, just as a pilot would have seen it. Perhaps just a slight leaning forward with Track IR to get a better sight on the target, but not as much as the switch zooming does (too unrealistic I think).
:)

Thanks for your comments Macademic!
CoD only has three zoom settings and no seamless change in the degree of zoom. I really need the zoomed-in view for shooting, so there is unfortunately no way around the jumps in zoom setting.
It annoys me a lot that I cannot set two buttons on my joystick to "zoom in" and "zoom out". Preferably smooth zooming in and out, but if not then at least jumping from one zoom setting to another. As it is, I have to make do with fully zoomed in on one button and medium zoom on another. Fully zoomed out I can only get via the keyboard! (Because I don't want to dedicate three buttons on my stick to the three zoom settings) - Quite galling really, because it is a step BACK from Il-2 Classic, where I had a zoom in/zoom out function.
Yeah, the fly-by views can be discussed. I didn't have them in my first couple of movies, but choose them for the later ones, to give some visual interest to the more quiet periods of the movies. I love them visually, but the fly-by sounds (except on the newly made Tiger Moth) are really quite bad, obvious place-holders. I'll probably stick with them, but I totally see that there can be different points of view (sic...) about such views, since they do indeed take you "out of the cockpit".
So you are in Malta? - I love that country! Have a photo gallery from Malta here, if you're interested:...

Nice video,
You did not use your 1 minute boosts, you might want to use this against spits!
Radiators open for 50% is enough I found out.

Yes Freycinet,y you have it right, the handpump is only for the ldg-gear.
During flight one should monitor the temps and regulate the coolers accordingly.
90°C for the water and around 60°C for the oil is right.
If one is economy-cruising (pp around 9:30, speed 300 km/h) it might be necessary to close the oil-cooler completely, as the oil-temp might go below 40°C causing engine trouble when suddenly power is needed.

I am beginning to think it is a miracle I even stayed in the air! - But I guess it is all about flying the plane optimally, which is also very important. Thanks again.

Hey Freycinet,
Thanks for your reply! Pity there isn't a seamless zoom in/out function, perhaps they'll include that later? In Wings of Prey it's available, however I try not to use it even though that means that my shooting is rather bad. I accept that for the sake of immersion.
Yes correct I live in Malta, more precisely in Gozo, but originally I'm Austrian. It's a wonderful country and I'm very happy to be here. Your pictures are just fantastic - are you a professional photographer?

P.S.: Perhaps you know, but i'm quite excited that the sequel of Wings of Prey will have a Malta scenario. I look forward to flying over my house ;)

How do you turn off the text table?
Love your vids. Might I make a few suggestions?
You're gunnery seems to be the biggest issue. Some advice. Don't use the super close view mode. Use the 60 degree angle mode. It really is the best.
Also, when flying the 109, Don't use cannon a lot on fighters. You have a massive amount of ammo in those nose guns, and they do very well against fighters alone. I typically don't use cannon unless I have a perfectly lined up shot or against a heavier target.
Otherwise, love your videos :)

droz, I have to admit that I also zoom that far in while shooting because it makes for a bit better movie material... :)
