TouchBuddy (http://www.touch-buddy.com) is software that you run on your system and view on a second monitor/touchscreen. You can create profiles using graphics and keystrokes for different games.

You can download and test it out with just a normal monitor. But it is really nice to be able to touch the graphics with your finger to flip switches and press buttons.

You can also run it networked on a second pc to save system resources.

Nice one Wild Bill,

Could I hook up my laptop to act as a second monitor?

Could have used this alot during the past 6 years. Thanks for sharing this Wild Bill. I suppose it will also work for BoB?

I've never even researched touch screens, This would be really easy way to setup a pit, I would think.
Does the vidcard have to support touching aswell?

NOTE:
If you use TouchBuddy in 'Local' mode, where you have 2 monitors hooked to your game pc, you will need to change the 'mouseuse' cursor variable in the conf.ini. Otherwise, IL2 won't let the mouse cursor leave your main/game monitor. In network mode this is not an issue.

- go to the iL-2 directory
- open conf.ini
- look for the [rts] section
- change "mouseUse=2" to "mouseUse=1"
- save file

Yes, you could. Actually Networking the game pc and another pc/laptop is the best way to go to conserve resources. Even though your laptop's screen is not a touchscreen, you can still use your mouse. So you don't need a touchscreen to test this out!

~S~Since it just sends keystrokes, it should work fine. We'll have to see what changes/additions they make, and I can update my profile, or others can create new ones.

I am hoping that BoB will export game data using LUA or something. We could write Plugins that graphiclly display that data. A plugin just has to have an interface that can be displayed in a IE Browser. If it can read the data, and display it in a IE Browser, then it can be used in TB. I have written several Plugins using VB6 ActiveX controls, which can be opened in IE.

I've never even researched touch screens, This would be really easy way to setup a pit, I would think.
Does the vidcard have to support touching aswell? No, only the screen has to be a touchscreen, or touchoverlay. Any output from a graphic adapter should work.

TouchScreens:

Touchscreens basically have wires coming out of them for the monitor, and also USB for the mouse. So a touchscreen is really 2 devices, the monitor, and a built-in glass mouse overlay. Wherever you touch, the mouse jumps to that position and does a click event on whatever is displayed at that spot.

I have an Innovatek TFT Color Touchscreen TM-868 that I got off of eBay (from MP3Car.com) shipped to me for about $165 over a year ago. It has a native resolution of 640x480. The native resolution is important because screen font's only look at the native res.

If I were to get a new one I would get an 8" - 10" with a native res of 800x600.

Touchoverlays
These are glass panels that you can get in many sizes and you put them over your monitor. They act as the mouse.

So if I do this, then I will no longer have use of my mouse on the ingame monitor? I do not have trackir so I use the hat switch and mouse for view in game. I would really like to try this since I have another flat panel monitor just sitting here. How do I get around this Wild Bill?

I would really like to try this since I have another flat panel monitor just sitting here. How do I get around this Wild Bill? It's the same mouse. This just lets it leave the main monitor and also move over to the other monitor. I do have TrackIR so, I don't know what it's like to do it your way. You can download the software and hookup your second monitor (you'll need a second video output: on your current card, or a second card). Then give it a test.

Personally, I would buy TrackIR before a touchscreen though... I don't know of any users who use TB, but don't have a TrackIR, so I can't ask anybody. But when you 'touch' the touchsreen, the mouse doesn't 'move', it 'jumps' the mouse to where you touched. So it may not move your view. However, when you move the cursor back to the screen, I suppose it would move your view.

Thx Wild Bill. I'll give it a go. I have been meaning and wanting to get a Trackir for quite some time. This may just be the final reason for me to dig a lil deeper into my wife's purse and find the extra cash.

~S~I just got an email from Dodger our Admin at TB. You should be able to post now. He manually moderates new users, and is trying to set me up to also do that.
