my game wont update in windows 7 ultimate

Hi all i,m sorry if his is a stupid question so for give me before i ask!.
Ok here goes..i bought Cliffs of Dover and so far have had not much luck getting the game to run ..so i thought ok i,ll install 1946 arghhh big mistake i have now been trying to install run and update for 5 hours!.
I am now trying to install the mega patch 4.10.1 but for some reason every time i check the game i,m still on the retail v7 version can anyone give me a guiding hand with this problem?
Ps i had no problems at all updating on my old rig which was XP proff.
If my dx diag would be any use i will gladly put it on the thread

Are you saying you see v4.07 when you start your game after patching?? You'll need to install the v4.08, 4.09, 4.10 and 4.101 patches in sequence over topof the retail version of the game. As far as I know, the 4.10.1 patch can only be applied over top of the 4.10 version of the game... Actually I just got this and it wont install from DVD for some reason. I think I have a lot of reading to do which is a bummer. Wish there was a complete rollup update.

Does your DVD have the file a.exe on it? On some copies that is the functional installer. Alternately, you can get the game for ~$10 at www.gog.com (no DVD required).

I had that problem with the DVD, wouldn't autoinstall. IIRC, you open the DVD to read/access the files and select one of the executables (might have been a.exe)

Also, when it does eventally 'appear' to be installing the 'load bar' suddenly stops and nothing else happens giving the impression that the install has failed - it hasn't, just leave it and after several minutes it begins to display a whole bunch of additional files being installed.

Once you do get it installed and add the patches - back the entire folder up - you won't need the DVD again if you need to re-install in the future.
