Well first, you gotta narrow it down.

The short nosed had A's, F's and G's.

Long nosed had the Dora line and of course the Ta's.

I'll assume you mean the Anton and Dora.

In a nutshell and by most German pilots the Dora was found to have a superior rate of climb, better acceleration in a dive, better crusing and max speeds and that IF a pilot gained enough experience with the Dora, it could indeed pull a tighter turn than the Anton (and even the Bf109). MOST pilots considered the D9 to be the best prop plane of the Luftwaffe.

you should not do a turn fight in a FW190 !

FW-190D9 and TA-152H are good turn fighters compared to the rest of the breed.

IMO FW190A5.

why turnfight?

the 190 had enough firepower to take down an enemy aircraft on the first pass.

I will admit that changed once the Il2 and the b17 and Thunderbolt appeared in the skies.

According to the hardball 408 aircraft viewer, the best turning 190 is the A6 due to it's good power to weight ratio.
The D9 is off course better than all Antons.

Salute

All the 190's have an excellent INITIAL turn, that is, they turn as well as almost any aircraft when their initial speed is between 400-550 kph, and they do not hold the turn more than 180 degrees. After 180 degrees, the aircraft bleed speed very quickly, lose effective turnrate, and approach stall.

This is a little better in the higher powered models, in particular the 190D9 and TA-152, especially the TA-152H which has a larger wing area. The way Oleg has modelled flight, high power can overcome speed bleed for a longer period of time.

In any case, as someone else has already mentioned, the way to fly the 190 is with 'one pass' attacks, ie. make your attack, don't follow the target more than 90-180 degrees through an evasion, and then continue on, maintaining speed. Ideally you should do this as part of a team, so the attacks can be alternated, and tactics such as 'drag and bag', and 'baiting' can be performed.

The 190's, especially the 190A6-A9 have easily enough firepower to kill in one pass, with a single one or two second burst. In fact, the D9 can also kill pretty much instantly.

The D9 1944 is probably the overall best aircraft available in the game, especially at medium and low altitudes where most of the action on the dogfight servers happen.

According to Harball's viewer the turn time is greatest for the early 190s and less for the A6, H1 and D9 (The version I have installed lacks the C). Here is the order: A4 > F8 > A5 > A9 > A8 >> A6 > H1 > D9

(Note: Lower turn time means faster turn. Also, some of these times used in the list above were for different altitudes and thus may not be totally accurate. On the whole the differences were very low.)

The main edge the the FW has (other than firepower) is its roll rate. Find ways to use it and you won't have to Z&B, try a normal turning fight and you will be outdone.

I would fly an A6. I think one thing 190s do better than almost any other fighter is they always seem to have full elevator control even at very high speeds. You don't get the compression that you do with alot of other fighters

Yeap and furthermore it has THE SOUND.
Forget sound mods and other "enhancements". Just fly D9 :D

Its rather well documented, especially in Jerry Crandell's new book, Focke-Wulf 190 Dora Volume One, that the Dora 9 could out manuver any of the Anton's once a pilot was familiar with the handling characteristics of the Dora.

The 190 is a good turn RATE fighter at higher speeds.

In the first 90 degrees they kick freckle - coupled with vector rolls that take advantage of their superb roll rate the aircraft can be a monster in a turn fight.

Keeping airspeed just above 400km/h you can afford to mix it up.
