Waiting patiently for SOW:BOB to jump into a Hurri Mk1? Are you ready for the carburetor cut-outs when you dip the nose; the weaker hitting power of the early war Brownings?
If you mean to survive the initial onslaught once BOB is released you'd better start training soon. Practise your skills, taking on the Luftwaffe in a series of increasingly violent battles in the skies above France in a soon(ish) to be released IL2 campaign representing the RAF in the Battle of France.

First up, a very roughly made map of the area of operations. This is based on the map in Paul Richey's "Fighter Pilot" book but with LOOOOOTS of artistic licence. it'll be included in the campaign download so you can print it out.

Some shots of the speedy German Dornier Do-17 (kindly jacked by HH-Beebop) in case you were wondering...better get close before you fire!

Victory, but at what cost?

The 109 is faster, better armed, better armoured and can dive and climb faster than our planes. Let's pray we can outturn the sods!

Enjoy your fighter to fighter victories in this campaign. They will be hard earned.

Bring it on!

I've almost completed "Piece of Cake" (the novel) so I'm all into "phoney war"-or "sitzkrieg" action! Don't forget to wear your stiff collars, fly in close VICs and use the "Dowding Spread" when attacking enemy bombers! :)

Beautiful work there Kristorf. The wings and fuselage ribbing look really convincing and the muted colours will be perfect for the map.
I'd like the rudder scheme, please, as in my narrative the change will be done on the airfield - just a DIY job on the undersides. The undersurface looks gorgeous, doesn't it? Something so appealing about the early RAF colours I think.

Hi FSM,
they should hire you for BoB as art director ... if they are smart they will, God knows that they could use one.

beautiful work as always ...ETA?

THAT would be cool. In the meantime though, I think I'd better keep doing my day job :)

GOZR - there's an MS406 further up the page and I'm trying to make sure I include French aircraft in as many missions as I can. Due to the very high object count on the map I can't use too many planes at once though.

I loved the Novel so much - so after some searching, I found the ITV series on DVD and ordered it from the US.
It's great, don't get me wrong - BUT - they fly Spits in the TV series instead of historically correct Hurri's (availability) and they had to use Mk Vb's and Mk VIII's MIXED for the filming

Fret not - I guarantee it`ll be splashed across any and all flight sim forums. I`m never shy about blowing my own horn when it comes to campaign building! I figure that the amount of effort and time I expend does not deserve to go unnoticed, immodest as that sounds.
I think so many other interesting campaigns would really benefit form being more unashamedly self-promoting. Strange really as I`m actually quite a modest and un-showy person in the flesh.

If you have been reading abot the Sitzkrieg or the RAF squadrons in action in France then I hope you will catch something of the spirit in this although I have obviously focussed on the more action-filled aspects of the time.

Still not sure when it`ll be done. Babies make schedules hard to stick to. Especially when coupled to randomly crashing computers.

Some people will scream "nutcases" but will then be in awe when they realize how much time & effort 3rd party puts on this game.

Yeah those who take the time and effort to make these missions, especially historical ones (because of the research they do to make those missions match up with available documentation) certainly have my appreciation :)

Same for those who make the cool skins that provide choices beyond the stock ones are also really cool to take the time and effort.

It adds much more depth to this already (for me) absorbing sim.

BigRespectMan :P Count me in for a download as soon as available. Been setting up BoB type stuff on the QMB to try and get used to managing carb cut-out, etc; however, my IT skills are limited and I'm just not up to the FMB yet. Yes, we are going to have to work a lot harder for those kills in the future/past BoB/BoF virtual sky me thinks.

Good luck and thanks in anticipation.

Happy landings

Sure thing, Zo. If you want the original GIFs then shoot me your email address and I'll send them over. They look quite impressive fullsize.

I just like the colours of these ones. Of course I don't recommend flying through fireballs generally but if you're after an interesting shot then it may be worth pursuing.

Fear not, little graphics card. I myself am using a meagre nVidia FX5900XT -I DREAM of a card like yours! I admit I have been playing/making this campaign with and set to Excellent but the game doesn't slow down much at all. In fact, I'll email you the mission so you can see for yourself. .

OK here it is....

Fantastic work!!!

Works like a charm on perfect settings :D :D :D
Briefing is traditionally great .... just as i was in the Battle of Britain 68 movie :-)

One suggestion if i may, placing invisible runways on the airport will allow side by side take off-s just like in movie ( i don't know how the whole campaign is compatible with this though).

Dunkirk can't be represented better than this ( well maybe in SOW BOB) :

Thanks Zo, glad it was fun. Did you get nailed taking off? I had to play with that quite a bit to minimise the chances.
I might try that runway idea out, actually. It would look really good. One point against it is that if you go off it then you're dead, and if I put too many runways down it slows things down a lot. Still, I'll give it a try.

I ws pretty happy with how Dunkirk looked - suitably chaotic I thought.

Oh good - sounds like I got the take-off part right then.
Yeah those 111 gunners have given me all sorts of grief in making this campaign. Two or more in formation and they are deadly. Still, in reading about this period quite a few pilots did get shot down by rear gunners so it seems to tie in quite nicely.

well being shot down was all my fault this time ... was looking scenery too much instead of paying attention ... wait... you made that scenery so it is your fault after all

Hey chaps,
Thank you for the kind comments. Afrika is a lot of fun I think, isn't it? I think the exotic setting and the skins are what make it so popular.
RAF France is a different kettle of fish, mainly due to the limitations of the Hurricane MkI. It can be a frustrating plane to fly at times due to its lack of..well...any redeeming flight characteristic.. so I had to pace the campaign quite differently. Anyway, I hope you enjoy it.
By the way, a friend found a couple of skin errors in the original upload so i have released v1.1.
