I went to Krk last summer, and we went on a boat trip round the islands. On that trip we stopped at a Fjord where the wreckage of a german ferry was still visible. The guide said that the RAF sunk it and one of the planes, hit the hillside and the pilot was killed. But Kroatian Partisans recoverd the body and he now rests in a nearby village. You can find bit's of information on the net but no report that realy hangs togethere. I found out that it probably was a Hurricane that crashed. Do you know something about it?

Well I guess I'll post a shot of my personal mount.
Here I am returning from a air raid on our home base in the early morning. I just sent my wingman home before he runs out of gas and this shot shows me preparing to make the first turn into the landing pattern. Soon my crew chief will add another two stars to my tally. :D

Mine are all " in game." :D I don't know how to make "out of game" ones.. :cry:


They are totally non-retouched and my cpu and video card are set " Max Graphics and balls out" and are smoking while I do them so I hope you all apperciate the effort!! :)

Hi all
Haven't posted anything for a few days, as I've exceeded my monthly broadband quota - yes, believe it or not, most of us regular folk in SA have to accept a 'capped' monthly limit, or pay exorbitant prices for unlimited. Not an ideal situation, but I'll be posting more from the beginning of November again.
With regards to the 'in-game' or 'not in-game' backgrounds for shots, let's think about it quickly...
This thread is called 'IL-2 Art', so I think almost anything IL-2 related is acceptable... 8)
There is another thread for IL-2 screenshots, so maybe that should be where the 'in-game' shots are posted?
Or, will that just complicate matters too much? All of my screenies are 'in-game', with minor or no editing done in Photoshop.
So, lets try to get some idea of who wants what - screenies in the screenie thread, 'art' in the art thread, or all mixed-up?
I get a bit confused myself, sometimes, and have posted my screenies in this thread and the screenshot thread. Does it really matter?
PS: Welcome stalkervision - cool shots, although some might be a bit dark, if I had to be critical - although those will certainly look good at night. Good stuff coming from all, keep it up, guys! :lol:

If well done, who gives a flip, I like his Closing on Pearl, He blured the Game objects just enough they fit well into the real photo.

I rasied an artist, and some times, artist are real snobs, its amasing how times the rub each aothes back intently, just so later they can run a knife in it.

They tend to use negative reinforcement, in conjunction with positive reinforcement, thus cancelling out anything positive, ever said.
The subject or receiver of the comments will allways take home the negative in his heart, and feel badly about it.

Well, I have to both agree and disagree with GOZR.

It's always nice to see great shots that doesnt need editing, BUT games are all about immersion for me and the graphics we see in IL2 just doesnt seem nowhere near real. So, if something cool happens on my sortie, I usually remake the scene using real photos and by blending the IL2 planes in it. That's just my way to tell the story.

Besides, the title says "IL2 art", well doing composites is art and might I say, quite hard to do. That is of course, if you really want it to look real.

Oh and I love to make these composites, so...

But yeh, I can stop posting them if it bothers someone. :wink:

I agree with Dowly, but, I dont make mine to replicate events I've had ingame, I do it to try and see what the Battle of Britain would have been like, while taking artistic license.

That's the rule I use both in online games and in the forums. The ones that can do good looking 'art' out of IL2, just have too much time on their hands. :wink:

I find the discussion about "only unedited shots" slightly odd. It's obvious which ones are edited and which ones aren't plus people say that too. In that way no one will be fooled and as being said, a room called "art" doesn'T seem to put any borders regarding the expected results. Please keep them coming, I like to look at both :)

Kristorf - the 109 pic is stunningly good. I loved that. I also really liked the B-25 (thought the lighting looked dead right)and the Spit "home again".

I can resize the image to my desktop resolution (3520x1200) but I can't get XP to see both monitors as one for the purposes of a background.

dunno if stretching them would look too good anyways. That would be a dramatically horizontal aspect ratio. At work Im having each display showing the same artwork but therefore unstretched. When I work on one I still can use the 2nd for a short look at the image and a "2-second-break" enjoying an instant daydream ;)

It's combat flight basics 101. :) Vidar is retired from the navy and S3's and taught us proper naval/carrier operations. I started out with a Ki-61 over Burma but ended up with a Fw-190 A4 over the Atlas Mountains :).

I have freely interpreted the situation from the situation descriped below.


"Rudorffer- The Berrypicker"

February 9th, 1943 - Erich Rudorffer of the II./J.G.2 .
Location: Tunisia, North Africa.

On 9 February 1943, II./JG 2 achieved its highest tally in the Tunisian campaign, when it downed some 16 aircraft, half of which went to the Gruppenkommandeur himself. In fact, Rudorffer claimed all his eight victories in the space of half an hour during one early afternoon sortie. Just after noon on the 9th, bombers (B-17s of the 301st BG) and fighters (18 P-38s of the 94th FS) were reported approaching II./JG 2’s base, Kairouan, and immediately the unit’s readiness Staffel took off to engage them. Rudorffer was last to take off, and after sighting the enemy formation at 21500 feet, attacked the fighters. He attacked P-40s which were flying in a defensive circle, and by slipping in and out he managed to down six of them. He then sighted P-38s below strafing German ground targets. He shot down two of these south of Maktar at 1521 and 1522 in two passes, giving him a total of eight. The following is Rudorffer's own account of the action:

"It was south of Tunis, about 180 kilometres. We got word - we were based at Kairouan - that bombers and fighters were on the way (B-17s of the 301st BG and P-38s of the 1st FG). One Staffel was already sitting in their aircraft and I ordered them off. I was always last to take off and waited to get the latest information on the enemy's course and speed. Then I took off with my Schwarm of four and we assembled with the others in the air and headed for the "dicke Autos und Indianer". They were coming from the west, about 24 B-17s, 18 P-40s, 20 P-38s and a similar number of Spitfires - some of them may have been Hurricanes because when the dogfight began I thought I saw some Hurricanes also. We were at about 7000 metres and the bombers were below us, the P-40s above.
When we started for the bombers the Curtiss fighters came down on us and that's when the dogfight began. After a time the P-40s, which were not as fast as us, went into a 'Luftbery' circle and I began to slip in from low and high and shoot them donw. I managed to shoot down six in about seven minutes. As I recall the combat report, I got one at 1359 and the last at 1406. By that time the fight had broken up and everyone had scattered. Then I saw somw P-38s strafing below us, and though I had only about four FW 190s with me at this time, I went down at them and surprised them. I got one coming from above and then went up again and came down on another and shot him down. That gave me eight for the day - I remember it because it was one of the best days I ever had."

Fraid not mate, he (Serg. Magg Falerio Gelli, 378* Squadriglia, 155*Gruppo) ended up crashing on Gozo, becoming Sgt George 'Screwball' Beurlings first of four 'kills of the day, one more Macchi and two 109's. Beurling also damaged two more 109's, not a bad days work for a renegade.
