Hi everyone. I’m very sorry to see that some of you are having technical difficulties with the game. It pains me personally to see that these problems are preventing you from enjoying everything the game has to offer.

The team has been working at a frantic pace since mid-summer. I personally have been working 12+ hour days 7 days a week pretty much non-stop, with only a short breather around Christmas. Optimization has always been our top priority; for example, the game you are playing now is roughly twice as fast as the version shown at Igromir.

We are continuing to work at the same pace now, after the release – no weekends in sight. We are working very hard to make the game better, and we hope that even those of you who are unhappy with the state of the game are still able to see that it is worth the wait, and that you have faith in our ability to improve on your experience.

Here’s what we are working on at the moment:

1. Performance increase. Over terrain, the two things that slow things down the most are trees and buildings. We are currently in final stages of testing optimized buildings that almost double the FPS over London on a test machine.
Tree optimization is a little farther away. You will probably see changes in how trees are rendered, they’ll take longer to appear over terrain, but once again, performance increase should be significant.
If everything tests correctly over the weekend, both of these should be released by early to mid next week.

2. Enhanced multicore support. The mode that we unfortunately were not able to finish in time is sending all render to a dedicated CPU core. The mode is working but somewhat buggy. It easily doubles the FPS, and the performance boost is especially noticeable in larger missions with lots of stuff going on.
This is probably at least two to three weeks away, and we will probably do a short public beta of this major change before it’s made live to everyone.

3. Multiplayer. There is something in steam filters that prevents game servers from being found. This is only happening with live retail versions of the game. This apparently isn’t caused by us – hopefully it’s just a simple oversight somewhere and the fix will be a simple flick of a switch.

4. FM and ballistics. We have already addressed the issue where rounds appeared to leave aircraft sideways. This was caused by the difference between physical and rendered position of the aircraft, i.e. the rendered position lagged behind the actual aircraft position.
Our aircraft programmer has a huge bucket list of things to check, which he’s going over at a rather brisk pace.

5. Resurrecting SLI support. This is our next biggest priority; it’s done by the same programmer now in final stages of optimizing buildings. We are really hoping this will be a quick task, but I don’t have an ETA at this point. It’ll either be a couple of days, or a much longer undetermined amount of time if we have to submit versions to card manufacturers and ask for their input.

6. Bug fixes and support. We are reading this forum a lot and some Russian-language forums, and working very hard to address all issues as they are being reported.

7. New stuff – larger online maps, some new aircraft such as the 109E1 and E4 etc – are all in the pipeline too, but obviously we need to solve the bigger issues first and then deal with the freebies.

Thank you all for your continuing support! Just FYI, I’m constantly doing 20 things at once, so if I don’t respond to your question it doesn’t mean I didn’t read it! I’d love to spend more time on the forums talking to the community and answering questions, but unfortunately I just cannot do it as much as I should at the moment. Please bear with us, we do really want to make all of you very happy!

Sounds good Ilya.

Two questions from me:

1.) Currently there are a number of translation errors in the german version (wrong or missing translations). Any way I can help with these?`

2.) Are there plans for warships to be added? Right now there are none at all.

Fantastic news! I think the multicore and SLI support will solve 99.9% of the performance complaining on these forums. At least it should! Then you'll have to deal with FM/DM complaints from all of the 90 year old BOB vets on these forums, but I'm sure you're used to that. ;)

I'm not sure if the process for fixing SLI support will also necessarily fix AMD eyefinity / NVIDIA Surround support, but I think quite of few of us have sim computers built with multi-monitors, so support for them is key.

Thanks!

luthier, I know this right down your list of things to do (and rightly so), but if 1 of the aircraft you're considering making playable is the Defiant...please do not hesitate in contacting me. I have a wealth of good information on the Defiant (cockpit & turret gunner positions etc.) just waiting to be explored. Oh and just to sweeten the deal think about this...how many flight sims can you name that have the Defiant flyable?
Good luck with your patch am looking forward to it.

Thanks for taking the time to give us an update!

It would be great to continue having 'weekly updates' as before, but instead of images and videos a status check on your progress getting the issues fixed.
I think it would mitigate a lot of the frustration and anger some simmers have of the current state of affairs. Visibility to keep up with the progress you're making with patching will keep peoples hopes up!

This game will be great as we get the performance glitches out of the way! And actually it's quite playable for me with 2600k + GTX580, but for the mid to low range spec it's a different story.

Thank you, some developers would run and hide at this point so it's good to hear that you are working on patches. My copy arrived yesterday, I've had to do quite a bit of tweaking and turned down detail but it's still very playable and I can see so much potential. All I ask is give us realistic time frames for this, if the timeframe you posted is achievable then that would be fantastic. I doubt some of the loudest critics even have the game but I'm happy I have my copy and look forward to the future.

S!

Good news Luthier. Really waiting for CrossFire/SLI and multicore issues being solved + other performance issues. I slapped everything to Very High on 1920x1200 last night, just to see how the sim looks and it was gorgeous! Sure FPS was 11-35 over land with pauses and stutter..but you could see the potential!

Not entirely true, I have a budget system: AMD AthlonII x3 (440) 3.0ghz, 4gb DDR2, Nvidia GTX460.

And after the latest patch I can play the game on medium settings without any major stuttering. It´s no near perfect, but the game can only be better from here on.

Keep up the good work Luthier and crew!

Thanks for the writing, I appreciate it and it's good to hear your side of the story and what is gonna happen to make it actually playable.

I'll let you know how it feels from a customers point of view.

- Waited a long while for this and it's very disappointing
- Nostalgic feeling has turned into disappointment
- Bought a new joystick > 100 euro for this and now it's useless
- Bought the game for 49 euro on steam and it's pretty much unplayable
- I know the game is not finished but it is released so I feel scammed

Hope you guys will manage to fix this game soon.

Thanks Luthier,
I have no doubt in your determination in tuning and developing this huge project.
Look at the benevolent nature of our criticism, everybody have so much expectation in CloD, Maddox games as developer and this community as end user.
Keep going with the same enthusiasm! ;)

No correction of the pastel colors and the "laser" tracers ?
At least, as an option in the setup of the game (a gama setting for the colors and a transparency setting for the tracers).

Luthier, thanks for this post. I really appreciate and understand that you and the team have put/are putting your heart and sole into this.

It pains me to say it, but I had my first fly last night and I was really disappointed. The main issue for me is performance/frame rates. I am running an i7 2600 with GTX460 and 4GB RAM, so was expecting something better. However, I know you are aware of the issues and are working hard to fix them. You have my support.

BTW ... are there any plans to bring back the mouse functionality to pan around views smoothly, or have I missed something?

Thanks

Thanks Ilya for taking your time to respond and explain!
I have very high belief and confidence that you will fix "it all" in due time.

For sure understand that it is hectic times now after release to address all the issues and bugs that are turning up. But don't forget you need to be able to step aside, breath, clean out the mind and then get back at it with renewed strength and a fresh outlook! ;)

Don't you think there are some more urgent issues to attend with the title than those? Let's wait that it runs smooth and open up the neverending tracer and color discussion and chew on it for yet another six months.

Sounds good, but what about Force Feedback-support?

Phazon
04-01-2011, 11:07 AM
Luthier is the issue of GPUs not properly engaging their maximum clockspeeds for the game being looked at? It has been reported on AMD HD4xxx, 5xxx and 6xxx series of GPUs. Some Nvidia users as well are reporting that their GPUs sometimes downclock during the game also.

I was able to double my framerate in Cliffs of Dover by forcing the normal clockrate using a third-party overclocking program. However many users will not be comfortable doing this workaround so I would consider it to be a fairly urgent issue.

Please look at this thread: http://forum.1cpublishing.eu/showthread.php?t=19807&page=3

i do too... but guys before thanks...wit to see if the result will come. after all all this work should be done in beta test and before release.

i support COD, i have faith on this game, but after the result of the release and some false info during the dev and release....(i don't speak about filter who was the cause of SLI bad support) i wait result before thx anyone.

if in two month i can fly in COD with a good FPS everywhere on the map on a good computer.... i will thanks the all dev team for their titan work. even if bug of graphic or gameplay stay.

but now....i wait result!!!! we should all do this way!

sorry for my bd english ;)

Well I think I read somewhere Oleg Maddox isn´t a fan of FFB so I´m not holding my breath.

It´s understandable that optimisation is at the forefront of the dev´s agenda, but for us FFB users it would at least help to know, they´re aware of the issue and are working on a solution even if it takes a while.

I'm loving the work that has gone into this sim already. I'm on a mediocre rig, but with some tweaking done, I am now enjoying regular high speed dogfights over the channel. What is now obvious to me is the work that has gone into the damage modelling and AI- it a lot harder to get kills! :-P

I am really looking forward to any improvements that emerge over the next few weeks/months.

Thats great news, your an awesome team, really, very much appreciated work you do :))
Too bad first impressions can have such an impact, after about 10 hours with the game i can say its ten times better than Il2, which is already a great game. First i only saw the performance and flickering groundtextures, then after that first "shock" i started to notice the good parts of the game.
On a sidenote, one thing i noticed was that the colors on my samsung seem especially real at 1600x900, as example 720p looked somehow more yellowish and white. Didnt know that was possible but im pretty sure it is.

Same here, the frame rate is horrific on my machine, and I'm only able to play over the channel. With my settings terrain looks worst at present than the original IL2 !! Any tweaking help would be most welcome !!
I'm glad to see that the team is still working its ass off to improve the game, however I would have much preferred been waiting 3-6 months more and get the actual finished game. I would have never imagine this coming from such a respected team and company.

Force feedback, force feedback, force feedback.

We haven´t had any official answer yet.

At the very least make it playable with the G940.

I second this, a large portion of serious simmers own FFB devices

Thank you for posting this roadmap. Hopefully it calms the fears that this sim is not going to be supported going forward. We are all, I'm sure, eagerly awaiting the new patches and I can't wait for the 19th to get my copy!

It's a rare sight that developers are this open and upfront about their software, especially in tight situations like these. Thanks to luthier & team for being "one of the few"... :)

While at this, please have a look at the new dual GPU cards too, Nvidia 590 GTX and AMD 6990

Very nice! Thank you!

But, truth be told. If you ask me: Take at least your sundays free. I think no sane person wants you too lose the fun in creating superb games. And six days a week is really anything we can ask.

Thats great news, your an awesome team, really, very much appreciated work you do :))
Too bad first impressions can have such an impact, after about 10 hours with the game i can say its ten times better than Il2, which is already a great game. First i only saw the performance and flickering groundtextures, then after that first "shock" i started to notice the good parts of the game.
.

Defo agree, I did a couple of video tracks whilst flying over water without any major performance problems, but i do question the AI gunners........ hoovering over enemy bombers and getting no major damage (at i was in a He-111)... Shall have to edit the tracks and post them on you tube...

Silly AI...

Oh yes..I have seen the Black Devil ride, always rumor that he's dead, but new videos still show up!

Thanks for the update Luthier! If you posted this a week ago you could have lowered our blood pressure! Can't wait to get some MP dogfights poppin, the wait might be worth it for the US release.

Going to 64bit would most likely really help this game with resources. It looks like you guys have a ways to go before you can take advantage of some of the higher end rigs out there. Multicore MultiGPU and memory beyond 2 gigs might be what you really need to get the most out of this engine.

Thanks Luthier for your post .I think id like most importantly is to get the online gaming issue sorted, i thought id broke it yesterday as it didnt pick up any servers. So Im glad you`ve listed it as one of the issues!! Without out this ability i cant play with my squadron nor practise with them, And before you all jump on my back saying there are more important issues, there isnt for me, thats the reason i like the il2 series. The online factor. the fact of shooting some poor sod down. So please track down that switch and turn us on!!!

Thanks for the update, I hope you have the time to keep this as a regular feature, I'm sure you've had a very trying week to say the least, but most of us can see the potential here in COD, keep the faith!

Can I ask how you are prioritising the list of bug fixes, additions, core engine improvements etc.?

With so many forum posts there's comments and threads darting about all over the place, I'm not sure how they do it, but the ARMA 2 developers I think have some sort of voting mechanism so that they tackle the most wanted fixes first (where its parctical to do it in that way) as voted on by their users. I'm just wondering how you get a feel for what's the most wanted fixes, additions, etc , apart from the perhaps obvious and pressing performance improvements everyone will appreciate.

My 'list' for what its worth' in order of preference, I guess would be something like :

1 Micro-stutter reduction/elimination
2 Multicore usage improvements
3 64-bit exe
4 Force feedback
5 'solid' trees in single player to cause damage
6 improve sound (greatly) and add missing sounds e.g train, wind rush (and volume controls like il2)
7 add a QMB/enhance the new quick mission page
8 add debris/wrecked plane to a big crash, all we get currently is a 'blast mark' decal on the ground (or sea for that matter) and no debris!
9 drivers in vehicles/gunners and at least a few crew animations, (performance dependent I know, for animations)
10 .....I'm struggling now for a tenth, I'm sure someone will suggest something ;)

Good luck with your roadmap.

That's just freakin' excellent, thanks for dealing with all this adversity (a part of which we the fans constitute from time to time due to our extreme enthusiasm) in such a professional manner.

I got my collector's edition yesterday, flown 3-4 sorties and despite the fact that it was not very playable on my specs (mid-range specs on an i7 920 based PC) i could see all the little gems under the hood waiting to surface.

If you could replace the weekly development updates with a weekly post on patches and what's coming next it would not only keep the fans happy, but also minimize bad press and give all the reviewer websites a clear indication about the commitment level behind this simulator, resulting in more favorable attitudes.

Finally, take a day off on Sunday and don't over-work yourself ;)

No correction of the pastel colors and the "laser" tracers ?
At least, as an option in the setup of the game (a gama setting for the colors and a transparency setting for the tracers).

You can edit you own ammo belts for each gun on plane.
My first try was a bit off, was thinking gun1-4 was on same side.

Still too much laser to you?

A bit OT but since you brought it up:

I tried to equip my spit with tracers to, at least for the four outboard guns.

Can you help me how to do it?

And also how to use it in quick mission?

I saved my customized ammo belt with the name Angepasst. I load this during quick mission (usually only empty or Angepasst available at the quick mission configuration screen). But all that I get seems to be the default belts ...

Nice shot...
Yep...The tracers...IF they were more like strings, so thinner if you wish, they would be great...Even the ones who have seen tracers IRL share this opinion...So it will probably be easy to "mod" them a bit ;)

After reading hundreds of posts, and seeing actual FPS of 20 to 30 FPS over land and buildings in low setting with average PCs reported by many players , I have to admit that if Luthier reaches his goals , we are in for a good ride within few weeks:

So double + double should look good ! And add the SLI in the near future  And maybe 64 bits...

Salute !

I did it in mission builder, haven't figured it out yet to do it in quick missions.

I have a question, why do not you put a beta release?
Why do not you have warned users of all these problems before they buy the game?
I understand that you are working hard on the project and I hope that from next patch the problem is resolved.

There are still a lot of issues - many which do itch me quite a bit and which need quick fix.

However I also don't want to hide points of satisfaction and astonishment.

One of the most outstanding things and of which I cannot get enough: Water modelling over the channel is something unseen before. I am so much at awe when flying over the channel. You outdid yourself with this!

This is all the news I could dream of right now! Made my day! Thanks, I gotta go play some more :D

Have a break ,it will make you feel better and probably in the long run make the work quicker and more successful.
The last thing anyone wants to hear is you or your colleagues have been made ill.
If you stick by the resolve to keep perfecting the sim that should be good enough for all here. :)

The team has been working at a frantic pace since mid-summer. I personally have been working 12+ hour days 7 days a week pretty much non-stop, with only a short breather around Christmas.I can believe it. I've said in other threads, so sorry to repeat, but the game looks great, the potential is obvious, and I'm confident you'll have it working well in the next few months.

I am very disappointed we’ve lost the work you did on the propeller, and I imagine you’re more upset by it, and I’m just going to dream that one day you find a way of working something back into the sim.

Thanks again for what’s going to be my favourite game of the next 10 years.

I belive you and your team can sort out the problems. You're doing a great job. I have faith to you and your team. But...

But what I DON'T get (I really don't understand this, please someone explain this to me!) is: HOW can someone release a game which stutters that much (up to a second every two seconds!) on a fast machine like this:

W7 64
i7 X980
GTX 480
12 GB Ram
Fast Vertex-SSD-HD with nothing installed except Avira and IL-2 CoD

And don't tell me, that you did not see the problems in advance. I'm sure you tested your game. You should have waited with the release the three or four weeks you're now using to correct.

Until now I can not play the game at all. I'll give it another try in a few weeks. Until then I'll play the old IL-2 1946 4.101

I know there is work to be done to ensure the CloD experience is enjoyable for the masses, but for me the CloD has been quite good so far!

I'm running 2600k + 580GTX and I get smooth gameplay at 1920x1200 with medium settings and grass, shadows and roads on. On top of medium I've got Buildings Amount set to unlimited to remove LoD. And I have almost no building popup at all!

My only stutters are when starting up a mission (2-5 sec stutter loading the cockpit) and after that it's smooth (40-50 fps) except a drop at big cities like London (10-20 fps) but all the time staying quite playable. Med cities flow without much impact .

I've thrown in about 25 or so planes into a quick mission and it has been quite ok experience. Havent' tried that combination over cities yet however.

The FPS might have been ok, but I've had to re-learn almost everything I've adopted in previous IL-2's. I thought I was a bit of an ace with previous versions, atleast against AI on ace level. So when I used to take off for a mission thinking how many bandits I would shoot down. With CloD I take off hoping that I can make it back alive.

Despite the all negative banter around I have to say that I've had the BEST AI dogfight experiences ever with CloD! I can't wait to learn to handle my crate to perfection and get the engine fixed to allow everyone to participate 128 player battles. I hope the engine will be fixed to a level where more ppl can get same experience as I do! And top that with add-ons from all the fronts and we'll be busy for the next 10 years. ;-)

If everything tests correctly over the weekend, both of these should be released by early to mid next week.

Well that is interesting, for even if I have terrain turned to LOW I still cannot get playable framerates.

So I can expect my framerate of 9FPS to go to 18FPS, is that an acceptable increase? What sort of multicore support are we talking here? Surely you are adding support for no less then 4 cores considering every man and his dog has at least a average quad core running their system.

What about rounds that don't appear to leave at all? I can hear the audible sounds of bullets firing, but there are no visible effects that indicate that you have actually fired your weapons.

This is my biggest bugbear. Is it simply SLi support or are you also concentrating your efforts on Crossfire support also? In addition, where is the native support for multi-monitors? More and more people are playing with multiple monitors, yet programmers and developers (such as yourselves) aren't including native support for multiple monitors. This game looks absolutely terrible with multiple monitors, with the cockpit being all blown up and enlarged. It would be great if we could see multi-monitor support included by the developers rather then the likes of individuals and groups such as the Widescreen Gaming Forum. It's funny, my 5970 will chew through Crysis pretty well with 3 monitors, yet it cannot handle Cliffs of Dover, struggling to achieve 9FPS with all setting on either medium or low.

FYI, I believe I have a right to be disgruntled, considering I am not running a 3 or 4 year old system. My system stats are;

Intel 980X OC to 4.1GHz,
6GB of 2000MHz Ripjaws,
AMD Sapphire 5970,
256GB A-RAM SSD,
Windows 7 64-bit Ultimate

My system runs pretty well with every game on the market, yet I cannot play IL2 Cliffs of Dover. Why is it that games are rushed to market and are never actually finished? We pay our hard earned dollars for these games only to received something half finished and in some cases never actually finished (Operation Flashpoint 2 - Dragon Rising ring a bell).

I am crossing my fingers that the next patch delivers on some of the promises made here, however I would like to see more support offered towards Multi-GPU and Multi-monitor support. Yes, lets make sure the game runs smoothly first, but then we need to make sure it looks good as well.

WOW......why are people having such a negative reaction? I too have a fairly good system and have the fps problem, but I am completely calm, I don't mind having spent the money because at some point I would have done it anyway, so it isn't working well for now......so what.......they will fix it, in the mean time play any of the other games you enjoy which had early teething troubles, my life hasn't come to a standstill because COD is buggy for now, but I have to admit I have ended up spending alot of time on this forum, exchanging views and oppinions with a wide variety of wonderfull people.

please people....chill out! have faith that this will be fixed just like every other game (can anyone name a game that never ever needed a patch?)

Intel 980X OC to 4.1GHz,
6GB of 2000MHz Ripjaws,
AMD Sapphire 5970,
256GB A-RAM SSD,
Windows 7 64-bit Ultimate

Lets go thru some of your comments:

1. Well that is interesting, for even if I have terrain turned to LOW I still cannot get playable framerates.

Many players have very playable fps as we speak...Your problem, for the moment is your 5970...Since SLI/Xfire give worse performances than a single GPU, your results are not representative of what COD can do now.
Those who have SLI configurations had very poor fps...After running the game on a single GPU, their fps doubled...

2. So I can expect my framerate of 9FPS to go to 18FPS, is that an acceptable increase? What sort of multicore support are we talking here? Surely you are adding support for no less then 4 cores considering every man and his dog has at least a average quad core running their system.

Read # 1 ...On a single GPU, the average fps reported on many forums are around 25 fps...Double that and we talk about 50 fps....And yes, quad core is what you can get for $250.00 now...That is if you want top performances for a 2011 game with 50 planes in the sky...

4.What about rounds that don't appear to leave at all? I can hear the audible sounds of bullets firing, but there are no visible effects that indicate that you have actually fired your weapons.

Unless you selected a ammo belt with every rounds as tracers , you would get , as an exemple, 1 tracer for every 5 rounds..So it is normal to hear shots without seeing each ot them...

5. This is my biggest bugbear. Is it simply SLi support or are you also concentrating your efforts on Crossfire support also? In addition, where is the native support for multi-monitors? At first thank you for the fast patch and the hard work you and the team are investing in this game.
Its nice to see, you hear the community and try to please us with the changes you are goning to made.

I've got no problems to lower my graphics to run the game in a smooth and lookable way. Also the center spring bug from my G940 is not a problem.

But I think, I need a little statement about Force Feedback.

It is really dissapionting for many people (including me) to see (and feel) you didn't include Force Feedback in CloD.
It's a feature which not only raises the immersion and the feeling, it gives you a really good feedback, what your machine is going to do in the next moments.
It's something a flight simulator needs to have in 2011.

In my case, I bought the G940 ONLY because of FFB and CloD (after I've had heared FFB will be implemented)

Some rumors appear in the forums that you will not add FFB in the near future or that you are going to never add it into CloD.

But when it was never planned to include FFB, why we got the line "FF=1" in our conf.ini - or does it mean something else??

CloD has the potential to grow up to the best WW2 - flight simulator ever, but never without FFB.

Please, give us an official statement about the future of CloD.

Thanks a lot

This question is already answered. FFB will be added in CloD, but this is not main problem. Right now devs solving perfomance issue and fixing bugs. So yes, we will not see FFB support in Clod in near future (at least in 1-3 month).

wow......why are people having such a negative reaction?

You can not imagine why there are the negative reactions?

Do you have a loss of reality?

The game was released too early! I don´t say, that's the fault of 1C. Rather, I see the problem at Ubi.

I just hope that the IL2 series will not become a total loss.

Ubi has done it already in Silent Hunter 5, ruining the series.

Somehow CoD is actually the same, as if I buy a new car, that the first year only runs in first gear and I can only enter through the window.

No...No loss of reality, just find it hard to imagine that people 'need' so badly to complain in this manner, if people are so dubious about UBI or 1C products already why oh why did they buy the latest game immediately on release, if I had a hunch a company was creating bad products I would have done some research before I made my purchase, but instead some people are writing posts with utter condemnation because they feel cheated and robbed etc.....nobody puts a gun to your head to buy this stuff......seriously

Hi everyone. I’m very sorry to see that some of you are having technical difficulties with the game. It pains me personally to see that these problems are preventing you from enjoying everything the game has to offer. [End quote]

I'm sure you are pained Luthier. And so are we. But you should also be totally embarrassed.

[Quote] The team has been working at a frantic pace since mid-summer. I personally have been working 12+ hour days 7 days a week pretty much non-stop, with only a short breather around Christmas. Optimization has always been our top priority; for example, the game you are playing now is roughly twice as fast as the version shown at Igromir. [End quote]

Which begs the question: why are you working 'at a frantic pace' after 7 years? Clearly because this project has been moved on and off the back burner so many times as more lucrative work came in that no one has managed - understandably - to keep control of it. But to have basic elements such as the mixture and radiator control ass about face is just unforgivable.

[Quote] We are continuing to work at the same pace now, after the release – no weekends in sight. We are working very hard to make the game better, and we hope that even those of you who are unhappy with the state of the game are still able to see that it is worth the wait, and that you have faith in [QUOTE]our ability to improve on your experience. [End quote]

People working at that pace are will inevitably become exhausted - if they aren't already - and just make more mistakes. After this initial showing I have NO CONFIDENCWE WHATSOEVER in you making things better within a reasonable time scale.

Years ago you were showing us all sorts of eye candy such as waving grass and the exactly correct type of machine guns on military vehicles. IMHO, this just showed how completely screwed up your priorities were.

Many have been highly sceptical of attitude of the 'development teram' since the very earliest days. And sadly, we were 100% right to be so.

Snipped...

so you really just wanted another mediocre generalised arcade type of sim........like wings of prey?

But for me the disappointment, however, outweighs the joy too.

Yes critical remarks I can understand.......but lets make them constructive perhaps? wishing an untimely death to any employee of UBI or 1C is NOT constructive, wishing for the demise of these companies is NOT constructive, writing overemotional 'letters to the devs' about how you deserve better because you have played their last game for the last 1000 years so they owe you everything is NOT constructive.

No, I just wanted something that came close to what we have been promised all these years. And it is not - nowhere near. But I understand that for some people IC and Oleg can do no wrong regardless of the lengths of the delays and the poor quality of the final product. Why they have that totally accepting, uncritical, pathetically grateful for anything they're given attitude is a mystery to me.

All a matter of oppinion, clearly you are no fan of Maddox games and are disposed to treating what they do with contempt, whereas some others are quite impressed with what is on offer, ans why not, is there any other sim on the market that even comes close to this level of detail?.........thought not

Its been 6 years...6 years of high hopes and hype about the wondeful IL2 successor...And Oleg has allways took pride in remindind us : IL2 is the best...Even by 2011 standards...And SOW will be 10 times better ! You'll see !

Its not that Oleg and team owes anything to anyone, but they created so much hype and high expectations by their own means, that when COD came out so much broken and unfinished,( wathever the reasons), it was a double negative effect... 6 months ago we have seen things like "pilot bail" and "waves on the beach" animations, highly realistic gauge "glass" reflections in cockpits, high quality smoke rendering, etc, so we all assumed it would make the first release since they were apparently on schedule and no sign of real problems in the horizon...And remember Oleg promise: It will be very close to photorealistic...
I am confident we will get all that someday ...But 1C is responsible for the worldwide disapointement they are now trying to overcome....But I personnaly
have faith in Luthier...

My own opinion on the roadmap is performance optimizations and hardware support first (I can't use most of my gear and despite high end computer it is absolutely unplayable: 5-30fps no matter what circumstances). Correcting or producing new content, interface etc should be low priority.

I support you, devs. I bought the game despite knowledge of the many problems (as soon as the epilepsy policy was changed). I have faith in that you will patch the hull and work it into something very special.

I want you guys to take care of yourself foremost. Otherwise, you will burn out, with a sense of distress by even hearing the name "Cliffs of Dover" because of all the bad associations. Exercise: There is a sweet spot where one gets huge benefits with the least effort, around 30 minutes of aerobic activity. This can be a brisk walk or a jog, depending on your physical condition. Biking. Swimming. Do it every day or every two days. Trust me on this, it gives enormous benefits to concentration, sleep, lowers anxiety by a large amount, feel much more awake & happy. SLEEP 7-9 hours every day. Eat regularly: no more than 2-3 hours between ingesting something; this is blood glucose levels. Take many breaks away from work (even if small) and do something totally unrelated to the game for at least several hours each day. Don't bring work home. Take at least a full day off per week where the game isn't even allowed to be mentioned. And when working on it, try to think of the things you enjoy about your job. Make it fun, not unpleasant pressure & stress. In the end, everyone will do a better job and be much happier doing it. :)

Sacrificing health & sleep is not something that helps productivity in the long term, because even if one spends more time on work, one performs so much worse, while feeling like crap.

I have been playing IL2 since its first release and have enjoyed it immensely. And I am happy to accept that there are are other Maddox games that are also excellent. So you 'obvious' conclusion is completely wrong.

My conclusion was not obvious.....i said clearly you are no fan......but I have to admit defeat on this one, I guess we really can't forgive a single mistake, so I am now converted to the dark side of hatred, these people make a ton of money from the simmers market after all, they have to pay those gazillion programmers somehow, so yes I agree completely, shame on them! how dare they! it's been 5 days now and this software is just useless, 5 whole days of our lives have been wasted can you believe it, I could have spent that money on crack to get my quick fix, god I hate my life, I have played simulators for years now and all I get in thanks is 5 days worth of a buggy new release, I feel an overwhelming need to write an insulting post in the forums just so them and everybody knows how much pain it has caused me.

I also want to point out that 5 years of excellent customer support with IL2 games deserves our trust. The IL2 team have proven me wrong and wrong again over the years. Most vital issues with the original have been fixed so I really have no reason no to trust them at all. A minimum of how I can show that trust is buying the game now, when it is really important that we show we are here. I hope that our colleagues over the Atlantic share the same enthusiasm. The trust has not risen from nothing. We`ve seen how the orginal IL2 changed and we want to see CloD being the same.

Couldn`t have said it better myself. Look after your health guys, and don`t let the critic minority fool you. Most of us are waiting aptiently. Take your time. Haters will hate and will never be satisfied with your work. For the time being all we want to know is that you are working on the issues so we can have even more faith that this sim becomes 90% funcional in a few months.

Don`t get negative! Remember that long time IL2 gamers trust in your work!

12 hr days.... 7 days a week... I am as impatient as the next guy but that is ridiculous.

I think you need to step away from the keyboard and all have a break.... yes there are bugs but a tired bunch of workers helps no-one. I know when I become task fixated that the best thing to do is usually step back and have a break, I usually find the subconscious still works a solution anyway..

The bugs will still be there when you get back...:-P

This is also important to me as the "double FPS" effect of this fix will obviously not apply to all hardware. Knowing the spec of the Test Machine would be a big help to estimate what performance increase this change may give me personally.

Ineed, a lot of us here have 9 or 10 years worth of history with Ilya and Oleg - we know they will come through for us. Yes the release has been a mess, but this isnt the first game that has happened to.

They will work to sort the issues out for us, they have a long history of doing so, and keeping their word. If Ilya says these things are being worked on and will be resolved, I believe him.

I know I sound like a mindless fan boy - but I am not, I am truly just speaking from long experience with this development team.

Well other games have been premature also for instance f1 2010 wich was patched quick and dirty by Code masters.
And thats the only patch they did.
The il2 range has a history of patches updates and freebies.
This makse me a believer in these guys for me they have to prove that they abandon this sim first before i blevieve they will.
So they have stood firm in the past I for one believe that they will do so in the future.
Furthermore the sim is, in its current form, not even half bad.

Nice to read a official statement about the problems with the game.
I noticed that there are one or two people who can actually play the game reasonally well, but most people like myself can't play it at all.
I know that releasing a pc game without any bugs is impossible, but I still wonder why this game was not tested on a larger amount of different pc's.
There could have been a beta testing programme or something like that.

In my line of work I cannot afford to make mistakes or cut corners because peoples lives depend on what we produce, so we test and test and test over and over again. So yes I know what it is like to be under pressure and how it feels like to work 7 days a week for months at a time just to finish the project. Oleg and crew have my respect for the hard work.

Many gaming companies will ignore all the complaints about a buggy game or release just one patch and leave it at that. And some simply close the forums where al the complaining customers are screaming for a working game.
No worries about that over here, sure many people are screaming for a patch but can you really blame them?
Please people try not to call every complainer a whiner or a troll, spending >50,- euros on a game that does not work is a good cause for at least some form of anger.
I will wait for the patch, I will give Oleg and crew the opportunity to fix the game for us and wish them the best of luck with that.
I'll be back in a few months time to get the patch.

@reggiane +1

You are completely correct. It is nigh impossible for a game to released without a bug or two, however 1C Company has let the community down in a big way. It is quite obvious that this game didn't have the attention to detail put in prior to release or it would have been delayed in it's release if that was the case.

I have to question the developers and distributors as to their responsibility to actually deliver a working product! In fact I believe that they should be liable for delivering a game which does not work as promised, as is the case with Cliffs of Dover. If you buy a dodgy product at a retail store then you are entitled to a complete refund, however when you buy a game like this through Steam you appear to be entitled to nothing.

I can't wait for the patch to be released, so I can enjoy my purchase with my hard earned money, however more emphasis should be placed on delivering a workable game from day one, not a week or so after the actual release and after you already have peoples money!

Why did you pay hard-earned money for a game you knew was crappy? And if you paid your hard-earned money before you found out the game was crappy, why are you complaining? They already had your money. If they waited until the game was perfect before releasing it they'd STILL HAVE YOUR MONEY.

@David Hayward - I bought the game the day it was released, based on the fact that I have every other iteration of IL2! So no, they wouldn't have had my money as I wouldn't have bought the game if it had been delayed, for I don't believe in pre-orders.

I bought the game the day it was released in Aus and have been greatly disappointed since. I have since downloaded the patch via Steam today and it has failed to fix any of the problems I am having.

It is people like you David that give developers an open door to delivery a shoddy game and attempt to patch it after it is released. There is no emphasis on delivering a workable game on release day, for they know that they will get their money and will patch the problems at a later date. We have the right to get what we pay for and what the developers claim the game to be.

The game still runs like a pig. It makes no difference whether I am playing in Eyefinity (3 x monitors) or whether I run it in 1920 x 1080. The game still chugs along at 9FPS and is unplayable.

This patch that was released has done absolutely nothing to fix the errors with playable framerates. I have set everything to low, despite having a grunty system it has made no difference.

Thanks for your continued hard work, dedication, support and the updates Luthier! :)

Thanks again,
BobTuck.

You got that right Bob.

In the past kills were soo easy to get and I oftened wonder why there weren't any more top scoring aces in the real war.

After playing COD and seeing how those enemy planes turn and burn and jinx, and how difficult it is to control the plane, i'm starting to understand why.

dear developers,

I hate to add to your already flooded schedules, but i would like to kindly request Force Feedback support to be added at some stage to the roadmap. please forgive me if this has already been raised and acknowledged in this thread, in which case consider this a +1 :) i dont have the bandwidth to go through the 11 pages as i'm traveling through asia at the moment. i'm such a fan I even bought a new laptop in malaysia and a logitech FFB stick to play this game while i'm out here!

I love the work you guys have done so far and your commitment to the community with regular updates on issues. again please understand i'm not demanding for FFB NOW but at some point in the roapmap when the main issues have been addressed.

It's not me. They get to release an incomplete product because they don't have any competition. If you don't like this game you don't have any other options for WW2 flight sims.

So true! I could never return to IL-2 after I've seen this level of detail in a combat flight sim.

It's not me. They get to release an incomplete product because they don't have any competition.Exactly. And it's not because they have a monopoly, they don't have competition because software publishers don't risk their money on niches like this.

You need to accept the basic limitations that are practically a given for a flight sim like this:
1) Lack of funding, meaning a small development team and a long time to develop.
2) The possibility the developers will be short of money and pressured to release the game before it's ready, leading to a buggy release.
3) The fact that this sim is a lot more demanding on hardware than your basic shoot 'em up. I don't even know where to start when explaining how complex this game is, it's crazy stuff.

What we have got has the potential to be amazing and without rival. If that's what you're after, great, support the game and the developers. If you think we're all sad geeks (well, we are) and you think the world would be better if we stopped playing games, carry on with your whining, great job.

Keep up the good work gents! Six months from now you'll be basking in the glory of having produced another flight sim phenomenon, and the criticism of the last week will be a vague and distant memory whilst you're enjoying some well earned R&R.:)

Not quite, I bought the game because I saw it was finally released and as anyone should expect, I believed that the game was finished and ready to go.

I can't see the point in defending developers for delivering incomplete products. Would you be so willing to defend say Sony or Samsung for giving you a monitor or TV that doesn't work yet, but they plan on getting it working for you sometime in the future? This is no difference, despite what you believe.

There are competing products, none a new release like Cliffs of Dover, but Wings of Prey is competant and IL2 Sturmovik would be no. 1 given that it actually works!

what about FFB? why are you keeping us in the dark about this? shouldn't this be part of your roadmap?!

I'm not really defending them. I'm just pointing out that you don't have any other options. WoP is a console game. It's not in the same league as CoD. It's not even in the same league as IL-2. It stayed on my hard drive for about a month (while I mostly played RoF).

There is a huge difference between Sony and CoD. Sony has competition. CoD does not.

BTW, I love RoF. I think it would be great if 777 made a WW2 sim. But, considering the debut of RoF, their WW2 sim would probably be no better than CoD at release.

Not quite, I bought the game because I saw it was finally released and as anyone should expect, I believed that the game was finished and ready to go.

That was, to be kind, naive. I thought it was pretty obvious that it was going to have problems. I would have bought it anyways. Unfortunately, I still have to wait for a few weeks.

AI or player? Have you flown Spit yourself? I cannot pull the stick to bottom. If you can show me, I want to be able to do that.
