In the interest of sharing my very first impressions of CoD over the weekend, I think I should put up this link for you guys to see:

http://simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/3249189/1.html

I didn't really go into that thread the beginning to review it - but as I flew it I just couldn't contain my emotions.

For all of you who find yourselves negative and skeptical - this link is provided in a friendly spirit, to prevent your statements from becoming permanent fixtures in others signatures over the next years.

I have often sensed such great relaxed confidence in Oleg and Illya's public comments and particularly the last few video's of Ilya. Do you notice how he sits there relaxed and confident of the product?

It's because he's actually experiencing the product not talking about it in third person.

Anyway, I'm a little embarassed of some of these comments - and my spelling - but this is how you will feel as you actually experience it, even with the few bugs and performance issues.

Any chance you can post your conf.ini mate and basic graphic settings. i`ve a similar PC but i`m not getting the same results as you. This disabling the Epi filter just isn`t working for me, i must be doing something wrong. Any help would be gratefully received.

Cheers

Hope you don't mine me adding my 2 cents :)

I'm enjoying the game quite a bit.

The gunnery is definitely more of a challenge, but also much more fulfilling when you do hit something. It feels great coming from IL-2 to see such an impact from just the machine guns on the 109. The damage modelling is incredible.

I did have some issues with the Anthropomorphic realism setting. I think it might be on my side as my joystick may have been twitching and that would restrict me from using elevator trim, flaps etc as my pilots hands were busy (don't go there!). I really like this feature but I'm still trying to figure out how to tell when I can and can't do something. Maybe there is an option to get some more feedback.

As long as this sim is as well supported as IL-2 was, then this will be one of the greatest sims ever. It's rough now but it's worth the money imho. The feeling of flying is definitely there and getting back into WW2 combat with these new flight/weapon and damage models feels great :).

This next month is critical though. I really want this game to get decent reviews at launch time in North America.

Since this is the Russian version I'm looking at and I don't speak any Russian please understand many options are hard for me to test, check and change. Blame me before the game until we have our version land :).

Storm of When, I posted my conf.ini in the 3rd page of that thread - just cut and paste from it.

You probably know this already but you have to modify to the files in /Documents/1CSoftClub/il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover/

There's another set of these in the CoD root directory, but modifying them will have no effect on the sim. I think those are there for restoring defaults.

Not managed to map any buttons or joystick yet lol,but it sure is a good looking sim!
With my rig, I get 18-20 fps in cockpit, 30 fps in outside views.Bear in mind I have not changed ANY settings yet,and am running in 1680 x 1050,so I am sure I can improve on thoses figures.
Just happy I can run it really! Be nice to get my Euro version on Thursday though.

Wow, this is really encouraging to me. I'm running a somewhat more recent but similar system to yours (i7 920 @ stock speed, ie 2.7 GHz, 3Gb of DDR3 RAM in tripple channel and an Ati 4890 1GB running the same resolution as you are) and i was worried a bit.

I wasn't going to cancel my pre-order in any case but i still felt like i was taking a bit of a gamble after seeing people with much better specs having trouble on reduced settings. According to what you say it will be running just fine for me when they issue the first couple of bug-fixing patches. All i want is a steady minimum of 25-30 FPS on medium settings, i don't have any illusions that i'll be maxing it out from the get go anyway.

All i can say is thank you guys for your feedback and your willingness to dive in and test the waters ahead of time

Big thx Gunny, i`m playing now and it`s very nice with your settings. I`m setting up little 3 on 3 d/f`s over the water and yeh, alls good. Still not seeing the prop in my pit and i`ve applied the text shown to the C/user/docs/1c softclub (or whatever it is lol) folder, but still no prop. I have turned PC on and off as well.

@Storm of When

Take a flight where the sun is on direct position (have just risen) and then fly in the way that the light is coming from behind to your propeller and you should see it, at least I see it in planes such as spitfire.

Thank you very much Gunny for your imput.
Can't wait to get my hands on it and break my teeth in the Russian menu.

It's been a long time since i studied Russian in school and is not much i remember, except some bad words.

I'll be home on wednesday, I have two copies on preorder from Uk buy I'll definitely get the Russian version just not to go insane until the UK version is released on thursday.

I have absolutely no doubt this game will be great and a little experimenting and tweaking is always a good way to understand more about your game and about your computer.:)

S! Gunny.

After reading your posts it makes me wonder - why didn't the devs hire you to do the promotional work? :)

Nicely done and keep'em coming please.

Ok Devastat i`ll try that, i`m much more positive now, might have guessed that the poor show I was getting was due to my inability to set it up correctly. This is gonna be great.

@Storm

With my hardware + settings (pretty high settings) it runs very nicely when flying solo sightseeing, or in combat if you are having max. 6 planes on the sky. Anything more than that and it becomes unplayable (and I mean really).

So I just fly solo or have these dogfights with few planes and it is very enjoyable to play.

Might this dip in FPS be because of the AI/FM/DM change? Didn't Luthier or Oleg mention in an interview that planes farther away would use simplified routines and only get more complex when closer to the player? Just an idea..

@Flanker possibly. It probably would run very nice online with other players when your computer doesn't have to calculate AI at all.

Yes, but still it would be quite a task if the server had 128 players. Lot of traffic there, even without AI. Well..patches will come so we will see :)

Yep, apparently the first reviews about the multiplayer have been quite disastrous - in a french game forum..

In six months of optimization I'll buy CoD. Will be a great combat flight sim, but in the FUTURE, russian game devs must start to think without the all capitalist/corporative mind...

That's not the way the world MUST spin... Maybe 1C and Oleg can learn the lesson with this trouble release: think in a way to close your product with your consumers, direct distribution, alternative ways to generate incomings, etc.

Or live with deadlines, restrictions, etc, and blame the "game industry" for everything... But wait: YPU ARE THE INDUSTRY!
