View Full Version : RoF had HDR using a modified IL2 engine. Could HDR be in a TD patch one day?

Just wondering what the future could hold for IL2 now CoD has 'sort of' been released?

Looking at the fan-based continual development of Falcon 4.0 it got me thinking whether IL2 could ever have HDR/shadows/etc,etc added in future patches by TD if there was a way to do it?

Would there be a possibilty of the team that made RoF even offering a paid for patch to give HDR to the IL2 engine (as they have done it with their's) similar to the guys at "Firepower" who added the modification to Combat Flight Simulator 3 to give it smoke and particle effects?

We have seen lots of additions (those that cannot be named) but if a Commercial company (maybe the RoF guys) could offer a paid-for add-on to the engine for HDR, the IL2 series could have another 10-years at least?

Appreciate thoughts and whether it would be possible, cheers, MP

Rise of Flight doesn't use IL-2 engine.

I have no idea why I thought it did! Just my assumption from stuff I read? So skipping that mistake, a paid for HDR add on like Firepower for CFS3? Cheers MP

There is a huge difference between Falcon4 and IL2.

IL2 has a sequel with HDR.

Falcon4 has not, so it was "upgraded" because there was no modern alternative.

MysticPuma,

I guess you're thinking about "Birds of Prey", which used an improved IL2-engine with better graphics. (Only released on xbox 360 I think)

RoF used the Il2 engine at the start of it's development. Then it changed to a different, unique engine.

That'll be where I got confused. I haven't really followed the RoF development as WW1 doesn't interest me, but eh Dynamic lighting that has been added certainly does.

I was thinking that if Dynamic Lighting could be added to IL2 by an industrious TD or other enthusiast, then IL2 would have at-least another 10-years in it, which would be more than enough time to get CloD up and running?

Cheers, MP

You really should download the demo. You might find it kindles an interest for the period. Nothing quite like that rush you get when you discover a fascinating new subject ;)
