I was running 4.08m perfectly on 1946 with no mods. Now I've installed 4.09 from...

http://www.mission4today.com/i...e=Downloads&get=3764 (top one)

...and the game won't always start. Only twice out of twenty attempts did the CD spin up. Almost always it just makes a few noises, and then nothing. Clicking the desktop icon results in a 'no disc inserted' error. I cannot explore the disc - I just get a blank window. When (if?) the game does start it runs perfectly well.

The bonus disc is also not recognized.

Other discs from other games are fine.

I've tried downloading and installing the 4.08 dlls (mg_snd.dll and mg_snd_sse.dll) with no difference.

I am not using the 4.09 skin pack.

I may try reinstalling 4.08 or reinstalling the whole damn thing.

Thanks for any help.

My config:

Windows XP Home Edition 2002 SP3
Intel core 2 6600 @ 2.40 GHz
2.39 GHz 2.00 GB ram
Physical Address Extension
NVIDIA GeForce 7950 GT
Sound Blaster Audigy

AVG anti-virus (issue?)

Did you unpack 4.09 into the correct folder?
You cant' right click/open the disc?

edit: save your original il2fb.exe somewhere save, then replace it with: http://rapidshare.com/files/448625736/il2fb.exe

You can install a noCD exe (mine works fine with 4.10.1). My disc lasted 8 months and won't read anymore. Alternatively, IL1946 is available new from UK Amazon for £2-98 (or 'used' for £3-00 ) Either way, problem sorted. 0nce you have a vanilla 4.09 or 4.10.01 - back it up to save all the hassle of re-installing it and the patches!

EDIT...Swiss has posted the link.....what a nice chap!

It has worked a couple of times, but most times I cannot do anything with the disc (or the bonus disc). As those are the only discs I have a problem with, I suspect it's a software problem rather than hardware.

On a whim I decided to run setup.exe and changed the resolution. The thing fired up first time I tried it. I don't know if it made a difference or not.

Sometimes if the screen resolution in IL2 1946 is not the same as your desktop (native) IL2 1946 won't start.
