Among other things, how does one zoom in and out when in chase or external views??

I have looked at all controls but I guess I am missing something.

Thanks in advance

The standard keys I think are del, end and pgdown.

If you're external you can also hold the left mouse button down and move the mouse up and down.

...is there a good thread for noobs to IL 2?

There's no one thread, but there's lots of information around in different places, so much so it could be overwhelming.

Here's a place to start - http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/23110283/m/4551011977

The Ubisoft forums there, the ones here, and the 'Mission 4 Today' site would be the main places to look for info or ask for help. Have fun.

In 4.10 you can assign ZOOM in Axis (see in HOTAS section of Controls).

Ie, in picture below put (default is blank) in mouse scroll wheel (see as Axis for IL-2). A bit slow, but work.

You can assign too tow keys for change FOV in 5% increments.

I have zoom commands assigned to a hat switch - forward = zoom view, backward = wide view. Very handy, intuitive and there's no need to constantly remove your hands from stick/throttle and search the keyboard for these keys.

TT - Thanks I'll try your suggestion..what do you use for the rotating point of views if the hat is used as you suggest?
