Or in a week or two , whatever shortly means.

I clicked on the Facebook icon on the Cliffs of Dover website, and there is a comment by Luthier {Ilya Shevchenko} that indicates they will be releasing the system specs shortly.

It's a perfectly valid comment, why on earth did we find out that system specs were to be released soon via facebook and not the official forum where it really should have been announced.

Because it wasn't announced. "Coming soon..." isn't an announcement, it's a passing comment that Ilya was nice enough to post on the official IL2 facebook page.

It isn't news until we actually see system specs! ;)

Well that is the thing with CoD,you have to trawl the net and at least four different sites to get info!
Sometimes, you can even put all the bits together and get an answer...

It's a passing comment that should have been here :rolleyes:It would have been nice, no harm in pointing it out I agree.

Because it wasn't announced. "Coming soon..." isn't an announcementRight, so saying that the new game is due to come out on the 25th March also isn't an announcement? We haven't got the game yet, but we are happy to know it's only 2 months until release day. We haven't got the system spec yet, but it's nice to see that it's likely to be out before the game, giving those that have waited the chance to make system changes before the game is out. People have been asking for system specs here for a long time, and the comment was simply saying that if they know those will be out soon, they could have said so here, instead of only on facebook.

Actually, that is an announcement. The game didn't officially exist until UBI said so. If Ilya had mentioned on facebook that Storm of War will come out on March 25th, that would be a different story.

The game didn't officially exist until UBI said so.You're losing the plot. People tried a Beta version of the game in November, and we've seen countless videos and screenshots, so we knew that it was in development and real. If you want to argue that being in development isn't the same, well I've got news for you - it's still in development. You still can't get hold of the final version. Ubi aren't the only publisher, but as far as you're concerned 1C could have released it, and everyone could be playing it, but it wouldn't be official. Ok.

If Luthier had of posted in the IC forums that the system specs would be out shortly, we would have taken it as a promise and would expect the system specs in the next few seconds. And if it didn't all hell would break loose.

I couldn't wait anymore so I went for the top and upgraded my hotas while I'm at it. No need to second guess anymore and my rig will be ready, time-tested and configured before CoD comes out. Some of the components take 3-6 weeks to arrive however..

Asus P8P67 Deluxe Intel P67 LGA1155
MSI N580GTX-M2D15D5/OC NVIDIA
Intel Core i7 2600K 3.4 GHz LGA1155
OCZ RevoDrive PCI Express SSD 120GB SSD
Corsair 8GB (4x2GB) 1600MHz DDR3 CL9
Antec P193 ATX
Noctua NH-D14
Corsair AX850W

I wonder how my saitek pedals will fit with the hog..

Replace the word "UBI" with "Any Publisher". I'm saying there's a difference between an official announcement from the marketing machine and some tidbit updates from the developer. Ilya is under no obligation to "pre-post" anything here before facebook, and I'm sure once the specs are available he'll be courteous enough to post them here first.

Very similar to what I have penciled in for my new Rig, ready to purchase/build once I hear the Official Specs from 1C. Even so, I have no doubt whatsoever that the Rig will be more than enough to handle COD (I HATE that acronym selected by UBI so-called marketeers, fools that they be) with all COD bells and whistles and MAX settings.

You should have no problems running the two together. They will be two seperate controls as Target only works with TM products. (AFAIK)I'm running a warthog withmy bu0836 based rudders no problems.

The "bells and whistles" won't even all be turned on. I have no doubt there isn't a PC available that would be "more than enough", particularly if you like 3 screens and 3D.

Once Bulldozer comes out, Sandy bridge prices will drop like a stone.

Its been along time since high end PCs haven't been a rip off through lack of competition.

Simon, the game is indeed extremely scalable. For the past six months all we've been doing is scaling it back. Basically we had built a 2013 game and had to pull it back into the present. Growth in the next couple of years will be very easy. We'll just flick a bunch of switches back on - Ilya Shevchenko

All this is speculation - at best. Once Bulldozer really comes out we will see. Already the latest i7's and i5's are over 30% faster clock per clock than their predecessors. Bulldozer has the time until IveyBridge comes out. If that graph above is true at all.

And if we're to judge on nVidia's dominance on the GPU market today I don't hold my hopes high. It is like they switched roles from last year. Now AMD runs super hot and is lagging behind.

In any case, if AMD really manages to pull this one off, mind you this is their first new architecture from 2003, no on would be more happier than me. :)

As far as i know 2600K might have "less" gaming power than the 2500K due to the multi threading, or lack thereoff in game. It literally slows the 2600K down below 2500K in certain applications (for ex. games that does not use multi threading)

Not a bid deal as such, just thought i mention it. ;)

The problem with waiting for the specs is that if the setup I've selected isn't enough then there is a little chance of improvement on the HW before the release. And I want to have my rig all pimped up the day I get the game.

I don't like CoD either.. will keep calling it BOB from here on ;-)

I'm ok with my single 27" without any 3d stuff and I'm hoping it'll run pretty smoothly or all the talk about optimization has been just smoke and mirrors.

Sandy's are pretty affordable compared to the previous pricing. For example the 2500k is about 200$ which is a steal if you ask me. Haven't seen any schedules for bulldozer except 2011 and I ain't waiting any more. There is always the next big thing just around the corner, isn't it?

I haven't seen any proof of this from any benchmarks I've looked at. Older intels with price tag around 1k have topped 2600k but never seen 2500k taking the lead.

Maybe it can be true for older titles, don't know..

How?

Skoshi Tiger
01-27-2011, 12:47 PM
How?

By using the power button? By running DOS 3.0?

You can disable cores of your CPU in the BIOS, but AFAIK if your have a program that is written as a multi threaded program then you are still going to be running multiple threads even if it is on the one core.

What does support actually mean, it's rather vague, I think it's more likely that those were tested with the game, sure a 580 will run great with CoD, I dare to bet on that.

I have a laptop that I want to do this on (not related to flight sims), I've looked in the BIOS, nothing doing so far as I can see.

but AFAIK if your have a program that is written as a multi threaded program then you are still going to be running multiple threads even if it is on the one core.

Yeah, I think I understand that. The laptop has two real cores running at 2.13 GHz, and hyperthreads those to four virtual cores, presumably running at <1.07 virtual GHz, and it slows up all the time. Might be the slow hyperthreading, might be heat related, I'd like to stop the hyperthreading to see whether that made any difference, but the BIOS doesn't appear to have any options for that. I was hoping there was some way via Windows, because I haven't tried that yet.

Oh well, thanks for taking the time.
