Hello Oleg & team,

I've been wondering if somebody with talent for flight sim movie making AND a good computer could do a real good trailer for CoD, because the one we've got for now really deserves the game and your work...

Seeing a low graphic trailer without anti-aliasing is just not a good promotion of your product, because most people won't know it's low graphics, and it just doesn't make sense to promote a game by this way...

I thought about Mysticpuma because he's really talented and I'm sure he'd be willing to do it. Can't you think about it ?

To do that he needs the game and time, something I think he is lacking in both.....

There is a reason why the trailer is of it's quality. Why promote an image that is unobtainable to the average pc?...so people can complain once they load it, LOL

Indeed, but people need something to look up to as well. It can be a very good advertisement strategy to show what the engine can do, why it stands above the competition, and why this simulation will be a good investment for years to come. So some max quality video's should be produced.

I was blown away by the graphics of Crysis when I first read about it in a magazine 5 years ago. I needed to have it! When I bought it, I knew my hardware wasn't up to the task but I played it anyway. It was really ugly at the time. So I built me a new PC. The only problem with a linear game like Crysis is that it looses it's appeal once you've completed it. CoD and IL2 don't have that problem. And I had sub-standard hardware for both IL2 and Forgotten Battles when I bought them as well.

Why promote an image that is unobtainable to the average pc?

Then offer two- they do it for blue ray movies etc.
average PC, and high end.
when I started with the first demo, I had a 16meg vid card (slightly above average in 01) and it started the whole race of upgrades-
you'd think nv or ati would tie in with this-

+1 next friday or future fri update should have a different and epic scenes with HD trailer, no wait, forget that, make it mini movie . ..

Mysticpuma is good but Oleg's team is good and Ubi's team is good also, probably more feasible that way to go in house.

random funnies:

You actually ask him to turn lead into gold.

You can turn lead into gold, it'll just cost much more and require much more energy than its worth. (and requiring equipment that requires a conglomerate of nations to build)

I seem to remember Myticpuma asking the question about a talented movie maker making the trailer for the new game...cant remember where though :(.

I think it would be great if they could use him for it, got my vote anyway :).

p.s sorry if it has already been said in the thread, i only read yours lol

The answer from Mysticpuma is; Yes I can ;)

I don't know what qualities this chap Mistycpuma has! ;)

The problem as highlighted is I don't have Cliffs of Dover!

To give an idea of how a short trailer/movie involving Cliffs of Dover could have appeared, here's one I did with the older Battle of Britain software (not IL2).

This took effectively 16-hours to put together and I was not familiar with any of the Simulation software when I made it!

I'd love to have a go at it, but lets not kid ourselves...I am not on the Maddox team and I can't see him releasing an Alpha/Beta candidate to a chap in the UK, who he has met just once!

Would be great to do it though!

Cheers, MP

I know for a fact that such offers to do the job (Trailer-production), for FREE, were submitted to 1C and UBI many times going back to the 2003 timeframe.
UBI, especially, is infected by what is know as NIH syndrome..."Not-Invented-Here" so we'll do it in-house, even though ineffectively and by amateurs and inefficiently and at a cost.

Over those years they have produced lame, second rate Trailers and other ineffective marketing videos.

There are absolute Masters of movie-making in the IL-2 community...offering free services...but ignored.

Quite a shame.

Don't even get into the offers made to do Box Art, submitted by at least one World-Renowned Aviation artist!!

The best 'news'/'rumor' I heard about 18 months ago was that UBI would NOT be the distributor for SOW:BOB! I cheered!
Now they are back...do some googling/Binging research and see who works in the UBI Marketing department for IL-2. Extrapolate to how they are implementing marketing for COD... I mean, c'mon...how out of touch can they be with the entire PC gaming/simming community not to know that COD has been 'taken' for years by...Doh!!...Call of Duty (aka COD)! Vive la France!

Wish you luck Mystic on getting the job. For Oleg's sake.

I hope that we get to see some impressive explosion effects too? If you don't have time to go through the video I linked above, just check out the sequence from 4.40 to about 4.55 and see the 109 explode with plumes of spiralling smoke.

very impressive! I'd love to see what the current 'explosion' model is?

A bit too impressive I would say...The 109 crashed like it was carrying a 2000 lb bomb!

If there is one way (that would be the only one!) the so-called hollywood-style explosions are OK, this is about "normal" aircraft crashes= a ball of flames and then a burning wreck.
Here it resembles a bomb explosion or even a ammo train explosion: a flash then very large smoke projections...There are many ways of overdoing pyrotechnic effects ;-)

Its simply not logical to let 3rd party random people do a trailer for you.. It's a matter of control of whats being produced and making sure that it follows
all legal right etcs, you can't just jump the gun and hand off a promotion video for a profitable product without having everything checked out.

Sure there are some really talented people out there in all communities, but its not their job, i can think of exceptions such as Glowing Amraam's DCS videos tho.

Well, surely if you handed the job out to a 3rd party, you would have guidelines, you would follow progress, you would check the result.
But this is common sense. Hands up anyone who thinks Ubi has any ?
...

thought so.

Hell no he can't. Took him two years to get out part 1 of Checker Tails. :P I kid!

He's one of the best if not the best..but he'd have to be even sided though in a trailer. Let a few 109s shoot up some Spitfires and Hurricanes. I've noticed during his career he's been an allieder. Start throwing the pots and pans I'm ready to duck :)

I subscribe to JAFA's You Tube channel. He does some pretty nice work too. For his short sound introductions he always seems to create a cinematic feel to it. All that just for a demo of a sound feature.

As an aside, I'm still waiting for "The Few." I think it was Toonz who was making that. If I remember, real life took precedence. He had a nice trailer up about 05 - 06ish.

Puma needs no introduction. Always great work. Superb attention to detail, because he researches so well. I forgot about the BoB:WoV preview he did. It displays the game pretty nicely. He even did a nice mock up of gun camera footage IIRC. Tried it in IL2, too, but since the camera is rigidly fixed in IL2 the effect (while good) wasn't as convincing as it was in BoB.

Well, I would REALLY enjoy watching a high quality trailer that would promote Cliffs of Dover.
Heck, even the trailer to Wings of Prey was very well done and full of energy. Better than any trailer for the Il2 series.

A sim which is the magnitude of CoD, anticipated for 7 years, the only name in town for new WWII sims, hit rock bottom and then came back, a descendant of IL2, which has to be the longest lived combat sim in history, and for all the years of work put in by Oleg and co. needs a trailer that will blow peoples socks off. If it's 10 times the game that Wings of Prey is (and I dumped that one after 2 weeks), make the trailer 10 times as good! I seriously hope Ubi understands what went into this project, and why it should not be compared to birds/wings of prey.

I think the Promo was a rush job , probably cos somone with big boots is pushing for a release ;) what dose concern me about all of this is we are constantly being told that this material is just WIP and the next thing you know that very same "WIP" is in the "Official" VId ??? , next we hear..."sorry no DX.11" ??? , every time somone asks about the clouds or sound...nothing but static , I think Zorin put his finger on it when he asked about the Ju88 looking in recent shots like it had lost a layer of its 3d construction...???? , I hope we are not just going to end up with an "online players closed cockpit" game , for first person eyes only , thats gonna be a disaster for us movie makers .

Also , if they keep making cuts to this game, pretty soon it will be called the Nimrod... or the NimCod and sold for scrap.
