Imagine trying to build the smallest possible, aerodynamically sound, car around that engine.

... and fitting it with a supercharger.

... the Packard 4M-2500 had a supercharger ... and it (the whole engine) weighed nearly 3000 pounds.
Here you have also plenty of flames around the engine.

Which movie is this?
Well I can only give you a rough translation of the titel "Burning Zero" as I have the movie in the original Japanese version.
It is about the development of the Zero until its end when Japan surrendered.
That scene in the video is supposed to show the destruction of the A6M7 which the Japanese rather destroyed than have handed it over after their surrender.
The movie came out 1984.

Found it. It's called "Zerosen moyu"
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0088449/
There is another good one which is a bit older about the 64th Sentai and their commander Kato which is also very good. But little known outside of Japan.
A newer film is "OreKimi" or "For those we love" which is about the Kamikazie pilots. This one has nice Ki43II´s and Ki61s
Some scenes are a little hefty though.
