hello all,
before I saw the enemies at 15km but since purchasing my new video card I see them at 5km max and the pixel is tiny and blurry.
iI took the conf.ini of friends that way for 10km but nothing changes for me.
LCD24" , nvidia GTX285 2go, AMD phenom II X4 955, 4go mo.
For months I'm looking for but without success, I do not know what to do if you can help me please

Try lower AA settings in the NV control panel.
Did you change the resolution?

If you want to see enemy 'dots' you must fly 1024x768 resolution -game was 'optimised' at that ...strange but true...oh and a tragedy on a 2560x1600 monitor but a complete waste of time using any other resolution if you want to see enemies...I cant even see them taking off from bases 1000m below!

I tried changing resolution but no improvement over the distance. How far do you see the first appear pixiel a plane?

Standard for first pixel is 8km for fighters, slightly more for bombers.
AA tends to blur this pixel, especially below horizon (except with winter terrain), so keep low AA, and give one more notch in res if you want less jaggies.
Main problem is usually at 1000m, down to 300m, when contact is below and same general color as background. Not much to do for this, except maybe a very big monitor (30" ?).

with nHancer I disabled anti-aliasing and anisotropic. no big change, I had heard of DLLs that can improve this is this true?
thanks for reply.

new in my problem, I tried the mod HSFX Here I see the flash of an enemy first pixel at 10km. is that it could put a pro on the way to solve my problem?

Yes, i forgot of this but you can use an advanced setup in console called dotrange, search the readmes on this.

You can change settings and mess around all you want but the problem will always be the size of your pixels. I assume you have a 1920x1200 res ofcourse.
The game uses a certain amount of pixels for certain tasks(like bogeys at 5+km for example) and when those pixels are smaller than on a 1600x1080, they will naturally be harder to spot. The only real solution is to get a larger size screen, given that the resolution stays the same. Or a similar size monitor with lower resolution. :)

whatever resolution I'm always 5km
I tried the mod HSFX and curiously I see my first 10km pixel that blinks. is little indication that this put you on the way to find or just my problem?
ok, i found this on another forum :
In the main IL-2 folder there is a file named rcu. Edit the rcu file in Notepad add the line
@file settings.rcu
then create a new text file (Notepad) and paste this lines
mp_dotrange FRIENDLY DOT 18.000 COLOR 2.500 RANGE 0.005 TYPE 3.500 ID 0.005 NAME 0.005
mp_dotrange FOE DOT 18.000 COLOR 2.500 RANGE 0.005 TYPE 3.500 ID 0.005 NAME 0.005
timeout 60000 file settings.rcu
The values in those lines will give you dots at 18km, aircraft type at 3.5km, color (friend or foe) at 2.5KM, everything else at 5m (= disabled)
Save the file as settings.rcu (be sure notepad didn't renamed it as settings.rcu.txt, if rename it as settings.rcu)
Edit settings.rcu according to your preferences. Values are in km, I guess you figured out how to set them by now.
check also this link : http://www.il2-fullmissionbuilder.com/custom-icons.html
ah.. forgot to tell you that you need to show the command console (shift+tab) or values will not be changed, then wait a little bit and close it again (shift+tab). If somebody have a better solution i'll also use it :-)

The problem is the size of the pixels on your monitor screen.
Example: A 24" monitor with a 1920x1200 resolution will have smaller pixels than a 24" monitor with a 1680x1020 resolution. It's not about game resolution at all, it's about the amount of pixels used by the game to perform certain tasks on your monitor. Like dots at 5km. Smaller pixels = harder to spot.
Changing game resolution does not change your monitors native resolution = the amount of pixels used stays the same.

I tried the resolution 1920x1200 and 1024x768 resolution but nothing changes. I'm still limited to 5km
have you tried my suggestion? it's strange... i can see dots at 18km with my config and i have 1440x900

Deactivate AA, use "controled by application" AF, apply AF via il2setup
AA=anti aliasing
AF=anisotropic filtering

True.

Not true.
When using (for example) a 1280*800 game res on a 2560*1600 native res monitor leads into that every "game pixel" is drawn as 4 "actual pixels" as the smaller res image is stretched over the same monitor area.
Even using a 75% of the native resolution gives you this effect. One game pixel is shown as one fully colored pixel and the adjacent pixels being "blurred". I use this on my 30" 2560*1600 monitor (75% == 1920*1200). Works well for me.

unzip the file i have attached in your IL-2 installation folder.Everytime you'll begin a new flight, open the console command (SHIFT+TAB) and type fr then enter then type fo then enter. At this time you can close the console command (SHIFT+TAB) and you'll see your icons at 25km (my settings are at 25km, you can change it editing the rcu file)

The amount of pixels used by the game stays the same. Should have specified that, but you are correct. No matter how you see it, the pixels used by the game are smaller, and the whole game will become blurrier when lowering the resolution like that. It's all a matter of taste ofcourse.
