Good post Blackdog, I would like to add that maybe the dev team should be a little more open about where they are currently, this would immediately end speculation and divsion, Oleg makes a statement about a potential release in September and then nothing! A simple 'we are not there yet guys' but soon, or we are aiming for blah would stop most of the bickering, its called communication and it simply stops speculation form all sides of the house and keeps 'us' informed. The constant 'none' statements from the dev team about previous hinted dates for either release/website construction/system spec's only serve to dishearten all but the most hardy.

Why would Oleg tell all the whining, sniveling turds a damn thing? So that he may incur even more whining and sniveling? The rest of us are waiting patiently anyway, actual adults don't have to ask "are we there yet" every five minutes, we know we'll be there when we arrive.

I'm glad Oleg is the man he is and let's us have little peeks at his "baby" in spite of all the bitching and moaning.

This discussion took place a zillion times (and I merrily participated a trillion times, :D). Let's save bad nerves and avoid polluting the planet with 10 pages of posts. I will take this burden for you.

"Side A: Oleg should tell more to his faithful customers. We have the right to be informed, it costs nothing, it's good for the market, it's good for communication, my grandmother will be happy, blah blah blah ...
Side B: Oleg doesn't owe us anything, we have no rights whatsoever, disclosing too much is bad for the market, we are not customers because there's no product yet, it will be ready when it will be ready, go out and have a life, blah blah blah."

END OF THE DEBATE.

Aaaaaaah ... don't you feel better now ? :D

Im not saying that Oleg should give us a weekly progress report mate, what im saying is that if Oleg gives an indication of a release date and then misses it, he could at least post something, because once somebody asks what as happened they get jumped on by all you super patient chaps. Oh and im not a turd.

You just want him to post a revised release date so that you can continue to flood us with your theory's...lol

Its just another excuse for one of Tree's "I told you so" topics... ;)

LOL I find it funny how many people get the word Voila wrong. (I'm missing the accent. I know.) Many spell it Walla, Vwala or Vwallah...... or any combination thereof.

Both touche and voila are pretty common expressions from the french language. Weird that they are so often spelled wrong.

Now if you ask me if the accent is ague or grave, I'd defer to our French members of the forum. It's been 30 years since my last French class. (I'm still working on my native tongue..... and no I don't mean gibberish. English :D)

EDIT: I can't believe that some of the members who have been here since the 1C/Maddox forums opened still get upset with Tree. I'd hate to see some of you around toddlers.

Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet?

SHADDUP!!!!!!

For you Tree. Of course tongue is firmly planted in cheek.

Of course, this is my personal opinion and not the absolute, universal truth, so everyone do feel free to strongly disagree, pick it apart and shoot it down at your own leisure...who knows, something positive might come out of the whole exchange and if it does, that's worth it too. It's good for a community when members are strongly opinionated, what's bad is them being dogmatic ;)

Why would Oleg tell all the whining, sniveling turds a damn thing? So that he may incur even more whining and sniveling? The rest of us are waiting patiently anyway, actual adults don't have to ask "are we there yet" every five minutes, we know we'll be there when we arrive.

Is this the kind of positive feedback you were expecting, Blackdog_kt?

Seriously, though, I agree with you, Blackdog_kt! I said before (on a different forum) that Oleg and Co. are throwing out 'scraps to the dogs' and they must get some comic relief watching the antics...but that's not a bad thing! Obviously, he is willing to tell us a bit about their progress and nothing about the expected release date, for whatever reasons. More importantly is the fact that they still get a sense of how their innovations are being received and I'm sure they view the criticisms with a certain amount of tolerance and understanding. First of all, the statistics of the number of people who are critical of various things are few compared to the number of posters and the total number of viewers on any given update week. Second, a large number of criticisms, to a developer, when viewed in the context of some average percent of the total viewers can mean something....it's a statistic like a poll that tells the pollster that a percentage of the population feels strongly about some aspect. In this case, the weekly pictures are the poll, and the response can be judged from the feedback. However, you have to relate the number of positive and negative responses to the total number of viewers. Sometimes, it's apparent that a forum reader will make a first new post just because he feels strongly enough about something in one of the screenshots to finally post about it. And third, many posters are regulars who post again and again, so that has to be taken into consideration by the developers so it doesn’t warp the perception of the kind of feedback, positive or negative.

I think that they take all these things into consideration, they must be aware of them, and they are not dissuaded nor discouraged by the feedback. And I suspect that the weekly pleas for a release date or schedule just makes Oleg smile at the eagerness of the fans while he ignores those requests.

As a developer I would be much more worried about an apathetic audience than an over zealous one!

Thanks. Is there a way to get those accents on a U.S. standard keyboard? If I ever have to use a word with "funny accents" I'll Google the word and copy/paste.

Yes, you invade the country, and 'liberate' them.;)

Only kidding. Under XP, you'll find them here - All Programs/Accessories/System tools/Character Map:
http://i958.photobucket.com/albums/ae65/ajv00987k/ChMap.jpg
I expect they are in a similar place under Vista & Win 7. There are keyboard shortcuts too, if you need them often (i.e. if you are a Mötorhead fan).

Robert

Thanks Andy. I don't use them often, but it would be great to have the right spelling and characters when it comes to certain words.

And whaddayaknow. There it is.

Simplest way under Win7 is to type Character Map in the search box at the bottom of the start menu and then select" Character Map" :D

This is SERIOUSLY off-topic for an SOW update thread btw

Yup, that's exactly what i'm talking about, it's like a polling system to see what the people expect to see

You do realize that my 'Are we there? Shappup' comment wasn't directed at you. Not that I'm trying to be a putz to those who find you an "annoying git", but I'm just surprised at folks reactions after all this time.

I can understand it... I'm just still surprised.

Oddly enough, my reply wasn't directed at you either, Tree. I'd never confuse an annoying git with a turd. ;) It was more of a general tirade on the overall situation in the forums (and granted, quite harsh). I would also like to see more of what's going on too, but a lot of it just can't be talked about because of legal/business considerations, or because of the simple fact that these guys are probably creating one of the most complex games ever made and they just don't know exactly how long it's going to take. Whenever we get a hint at whatever information is available for us, it get's dragged through the mud and blown out of proportion anyway, resulting in no real gain for the community.

Since this forum week is almost up I thought I'd put this great Scharnhorst vid up. It's completely of topic but I think it's very much worth sharing.
