View Full Version : ATI HD5670 Display problem?
This is a new 'Saphire HD 5670 512Mb' that I have installed into a new PC running XP SP2. Apart from some screen tearing (which I don't get with my Nvidia GTS250 fitted in my other PC with Identical hardware spec) I get a band of green squares across the top of the desktop screen when I close IL1946. I have installed Catalyst 10.8 (for XP) but maybe some one could shed some light on why it is doing this or if its a faulty card?
I'm running in 'perfect' OpenGL and have set the Video Tab to 'Maximum settings' in the IL1946 set up utility as the HD6000 series is not listed in the Graphics card support list. If I open an application and then close it the band of green squares dissappears (they look like a series of miniature screens). I don't want to return it if its simply a set-up problem.
If anyone is using this card I would appreciate any info on how they have it set up with IL1946. I haven't changed any of the default setting in the Catalyst CC.

Someone's having a laugh, maybe you. So far, Ati/AMD have not issued any hd 6xxx cards. If you mean an HD 5670 that's an entirely different situation, but an HD 6570? do me a favour, pull my other leg, it's got bells on it.
oops, it's a 5670.......thank's for spotting my typo error - corrected!

I'm having loads of problems myself with a 5770 in open GL and have to use directx for online play. Menu screens are all black and white checkerboards and on screen messages just coloured blocks.
It was ok with a low end Nvidia GT220, and with an old Sapphire ATI 3450.
I'm going to try the driver from my old 3450 to see if this cures it.
Will post with result.
Good Luck!

The blocky menu problem was solved a couple of months ago as are the purple flashing and the prop-disc flashing. Catalyst 10.8 works very well with IL-2.
Here's my conf.ini Render OGL settings if you want to check them out (read the notes after):
[Render_OpenGL]

Note: I'm running UP or I would otherwise be using TexCompress=0
Disable Catalyst A.I. in the Catalyst Control Centre. I enable Wait for vertical refresh, and switch on Triple buffering
hope this helps

Thanks Brando.
Very useful, will let you know.
I'm running AAA 1.2 offline, so Texcompress=?
Cheers!

Not sure. =0 may be a bit heavy for your card, so try =2 first.
BTW - remember that using the IL-2 Setup program again will overwrite settings made by manually editing conf.ini - so avoid using it again.
Is it better to select 'custom' in the Video IL2 Set Up menu (if a card is not listed), make all changes in the config file and leave the Catalyst settings at default (other than the ones mentioned)?

Problem solved by updating from catalyst 10.4 to 10.8.
Thanks for the nudge chaps!

Yes, that's basically it. You can set up everything using manual editing. It's especially important if you have set up a wide screen config like 1900x1200, as any use of the setup.exe will rewrite the config file to 800x640 @ 16bit reso.
Uncheck 'Use application settings' for AA & AF in your CCC. 4x is a good setting to start with for both these effects.

Thanks for that Brando, really helpful. The 'Screen Tearing' appears to be related to FPS exceeding the refresh rate according to articles on this problem. I notice that you set Triple Buffering and enable 'Wait for V sync' (which is supposed to overcome the screen tearing) but where in CCC V10.8 do you enable these options.? Cannot find them at all.............

In the 3D settings, select 'All'. Use the sidebar to scroll down to "Wait for vertical refresh" (Set to On) and then scroll on down to OpenGL setting, check "Triple buffering" on.
Glad you found the stuff helpful m8 :)

Many thanks Brando, no more screen tearing and silky smooth lookaround with V sync and triple buffering enabled
I have the 5670 maxed out on 'Perfect' (OpenGL) with the Mods Pack Perfect Textures installed - FPS performance is pretty good for a mid priced card so no longer disappointed with it.
