I'm posting this link to share, but also because it begs a question about SoW. Has SoW been tweaked to take advantage of multiple GPUs? If so, then it helps my wallet when I think of the performance of a single Radeon 5850 (which is seeing a price drop), and the Nvidia GTX460 (which prompted ATi to drop prices). These two GPUs provide great performace when doubled up, and the cost is not excessive.

S!
Really hope ATI gets their act together with SoW and have drivers that work both on single and XFire. nVidia sure got their SLI worked out right.

I can't believe I'm actually contemplating using two cards. I've been a single-GPU fan for a long time because I never saw very good scaling going from one card to two. Now, if Oleg comes out and says SoW_BoB is coded to take advantage of multiple GPUs, and that it's the only way to all the cream the cow has to offer, then I guess I'm on my way to a two-card solution (one day).
I wonder if SoW will be released on the day recognized as the end of the Battle of Britain?

I doubt very seriously Oleg will release anything requiring more than 1 VC.
Most of the world is on 1 VC and beyond one card the systems are more expensive and harder to maintain. This eliminates to many potential customers.
Just as with the perfect setting in IL2 he will probably provide upscaling ability, but it won't be required to use the SOW.

I'm not saying he require 2 cards, only that it might be good if the sim were coded to (also) take advantage of two cards. It seems as though IL2 was optimized in it's coding to take advantage of more powerful cards as well as lesser ones, so would this be a stretch? I recall there were a few people who tried to run IL2 in SLi, and had grief. That put me off of two cards for a long time, but if that coding...

Il2 works normally in CF, but utilizes one card only, I guess it's the same with SLI. I do hope that SOW will be able to use multi-GPU setups.

That's precisely my wish. If SoW has the end-all-be-all graphics engine, then it will be a shame if it's not coded to take advantage of multiple GPUs. While we're at it, I hope the sim can take advantage of more than two CPU cores as well. If it can't take advantage of a quad core processor, that would be awful, imo.

I'm considering it too.
I want to go SLI, unfortunately I was unable to find a nvidia mATX board.

You would be incorrect sir... IL2 scales quite nicely with SLI and it about doubled my performance from a single 8800GT. You just need Nhancer and you force it to use the older SLI mode called Split Frame Rendering. Works very nice and I've been using it for years.
I too have considered going with a pair of 460s. They look like the most bang for the buck and you get some amazing performance without the heat noise and power requirements of the higher end cards.

Tried it just now and cant start NHancer, the logo appears when i duble click but then it just goes away.
Running 64 bit Vista.
Edit: Could be a driver issue? Running the latest NVidia driver.

Bingo...
Nhancer can only handled 197s right because he hasn't had a chance to update it. He said they made some big changes in the latest rev.

Yep, searched the net and installed latest compatible driver and got it to work.
Think i got sli to run in IL2 to but with worse FPS than before.
Will tinker more with it when i have the time.
IL-2 Runs Crossfire via "Crossfire Extention" utillity.
It's needed to read all instuctions/options and set the best method of rendering.

Make sure you enable the Split frame rendering and show the load graph display in Nhancer if you see it you KNOW you are running in SLI. It should scale very nicely

Its worth noting that the P55 chipset (1165 motherboards) only support 16 lanes so their is a potential bottleneck for crossfire/SLI setups, especially if using more than two GPU's.
By all accounts the 16 lanes is fine for most dual GPU applications.
