Newbie buying IL 2....

I have just ordered IL2 -1946 on DVD ROM but I see there are a number of other titles available - IL2 Sturmovik, Forgotten Battles, Pacifc, etc available as a complete set but not sure how these relate to IL2-1946. Any info on what these additional titles offer would be greatly appreciated. Also, will I need to download patches for IL2 1946?

if you get il2-1946 then you have the latest version of the game which includes all the previous version as well (pacific fighters etc..), so you dont need anything else.

once 1946 is installed, i think from memory you need only one main update patch (which includes the previous list of 1946 patches).

initially maybe avoid using mods, because some can cause odd behavior, conflicts and crashes. il2 1946 is very stable and doesnt really have "problems" when installed on its own. get to enjoy the flying and missions a bit, figure out your options and preferences and get it running at decent fps for the pc you have. after that you can dabble with some mods to add specific candy.

on this forum you will also see some "official mods", maybe use those first, less hassle, good improvements, and less confusing

Thanks for the info, I cannot believe that I have just bought the complete series for just 4-00 pounds (or 6 Dollars) brand new! Bloody hell........thats what I call a 'snip'.......;)

Specifically, once you've installed the game, you should go to www.pacific-fighters.com, where you can find the patch to upgrade your game from 4.07 to 4.08, and then here on this forum you'll find the patch for 4.09. And if you're interested in multiplayer once you've gotten good, go to hyperfighter.sk and download hyperlobby. And then you're all set, mods aside.
